Gastric Bypass Vs. Vertical Sleeve?!
FranR replied to lovealways's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also was originally going to have the VSG. Due to some esophagus issues that came up with the endoscopy, I founf out I was no longer a candidate for it. Seems that if they need to make repairs to the esophagus, they use stomach muscle. I am going to have the gastric bypass next week. -

I also have esophagus issues that was discovered during the endoscopy. I am no longer a candidate for the sleeve and will be having the gastric bypass in less than 2 weeks. Good luck with your surgery.

I just finished my 6 month supervised diet on May 9. I went to the nurse practitioner every month because I knew he would be able submit the appropriate notes to the insurance company. I would go to your pcp rather than a weight loss program. Your insurance company may require you to have medical supervision. I was approved for surgery last friday and meeting with the surgeon tomorrow to get a date. Good luck on your journey!

I guess my answer to the negative people would be that this is your decision. The alternatives to not having this done is even more scary.

I realize everyone is different, but how long did it take to not need diabetic, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol pills.

Got Approved-Got My Surgery Date- And Than...another Set Back!

I had a heart attack years ago and had coronary stents put in a few years ago. My cardiologist is the one who suggested that I go for weight loss surgery. I have one last supervised visit left on the six month diet in the beginning of May and then everything goes to the insurance company. The surgeon is the one requiring the cardiologist clearance. Whatever it takes to get the surgery done I will do. Good luck with your journey. -
I am about 3 months pre-op for my sleeve. The nut said my meds need to be crushed for a few weeks post-op. All of my pressure meds websites say do not crush. Some of them are big. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Castletree You are right. We do live in the same area. I will be having my sleeve at Valley Hospital. Did you stay in Rockland for your surgery? Good luck with your weight loss. You are on your way.

I am probably older than most others on this site. I am still on the supervised diet and I can't wait to be sleeved. My cardiologist suggested I look into WLS. It just never occured to me previously. I am so glad that I did. I have alot of medical issues that I am hoping will get better with the surgery. Most of all I want to look good as well as feel good. I sent my two children to professional school, now it is my turn.
