Hi everyone, I am exactly two weeks post lap band surgery today. The first week for me was pretty rough, more pain than I prepared myself for. However my 2nd week has been going great..I am enjoying foods and feeling fuller quicker and longer. I have lost 28 lbs since starting the pre surgery diet (so 4 weeks). I have been doing restricted duty at my work...so i am doing office type work. It has not been a problem for me. I haven't had to take any prescription pain meds for 4 or 5 days now. However today at about 10 am I began experiencing stabbing pain right at my port sight. It is not gas pain, or any type of over eating pain. Its the worst pain I have had since surgery. It feels way worse and more intense than the muscle spasms I had after surgery too. My port is way closer to the surface than what I thought it would be but the site is not swollen, red, or oozing. Nothing makes the pain worse or better and it isn't constant but when the stabbing pain comes I feel nauseous and get sweaty. At one point I thought I would pass out. Has anybody else had this? I did call my dr's office but he is gone and so is his NP. I spoke to the nurse who said I should go to the ER. I did end up leaving work and took a valium when I got home...it's been 30 mins and so far no relief. Just wondering if anyone else has had this or has any suggestions? I just put an ice pack on hoping that will help. Thanks for any help!

I just got off the phone with the on call Dr at the office I go to. He said to try Gas-X first, it should decrease the size of the gas bubbles. Then if that doesn't work to try a laxative. He said my gas pains should be gone after 48hrs...guess my body just likes to be stubborn! I have been trying to take deep breaths...it hurts at the end of my sternum...could this be a pill that got stuck? I had quite a big hernia repaired also...could that be adding to my pain? The gas pains are messing with my head thinking that something is stuck. I am paranoid I won't know if/when something gets stuck. I am just frusterated I am not feeling as well as I thought I would be...my mom bounced right back after her surgery

I had my lap band on Thursday. I was expecting pain, but it has exceeded my expections! Is anyone having gas pain in their shoulders and chest? Any suggestions on what to take to help with that?...I am going to try the lentil soup. I have been up and walking every two hours, but not passing any gas (tmi, I know, sorry) Is anyone else hungry? My mom had the surgery a year ago and said she wasn't hungry for quite a while...I feel like I am starving! My stomach is growling and I have a headache. The gas pains make me nervous thinking I have something stuck in there, even though I have only had full liquids. Any suggestions or encouragement would be wonderful.

Hello All, I have been considering lap band surgery since Nov. 2011. I met with a the surgeon's nurse practitioner and she was great! Answered many of my questions and was not pushy in my process. I attempted to lose weight on my own (again), but just seem to gain. I have insulin resistance and high cholesterol. I am 23, work full time as a paramedic and on call firefighter. I have become so discouraged, it seems I just keep gaining. I figure I now need to lose about 105lbs to be at a healthy weight ( I can't remember when I was at a healthy weight, but I have never been this big before) I am glad I found this forum, as I have read quite a few threads and I feel like I can get answers from people who have had the surgery. A few of my questions that I forgot to ask the nurse practitioner: Is 23 too young for this surgery? I have not had any children. Has anyone here had the surgery and then become pregnant? Does it increase any complications with pregnancy with having the surgery? I know the lap band won't take away emotional eating (something I have a problem with), but does it help to stop thinking about food? While I don't think I drink excessively for someone my age, I do enjoy going out and having drinks every now and then. How does the surgery affect consuming alcohol? Not that I would be embarrassed about having the surgery, I would like to keep it quiet. Is this the wrong attitude to have going into it? I am not sure how having the surgery and getting back to full time work as I do alot of heavy lifting and strenuous activity. I hope this isn't too many questions! I just want to feel confident and pretty again, I guess I just worry that this surgery won't work as I have decreased my calorie intake and I still seem to be gaining. Thanks so much for answers and advice!!! Kaylee
