Probiotics & Weight Loss
4ALongerLife replied to Cherrybomb's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I take acidophilus (however it's spelled) pearls... but I still am stalling. Not sure if they help or not, or if it's a combination of things? Just remember, if you do stall, it's not all a bad thing. It is giving your skin a chance to catch up with your weight loss and hopefully not sag if you loose too quickly. Ok so it's what I tell myself anyways, sigh.... -
Money money money.... it's about 1/2 of what you pay in the States, if you go to Mexico.

There Was An Old Lady....
4ALongerLife commented on tmorgan813's blog entry in A funny thing happend while I was loosing weight
OMG rofl... well there goes that sexual assault of the hubby thing after his response of "yeah i noticed that a while ago".... rofl. Thankfully he's a master at that lottery playing! Oh and btw, ummm, can you remember me, your long lost cousin here in Dallas, TX so whenever you win the lottery you can include moi on the lift and tuck of my old lady tummy and etceteras as well??? You are always a joy... thank you for that! -
I'm a big poster on cytomax, which is now cytosport's whey Protein isolate drinks in tropical and tangerine. I get them from Vitamin Shoppe... they are 3.79 each but it's about 20 ozs of 40 g of protein in a bottle. I say "about" because they just redid the bottles (they have wrappers in black with big white writing of "WHEY ISOLATE" on them). You can buy them at Vitamin Shoppe as singles (in the refrigerated section). Buy one and see if you like them. If you don't, save your receipt because you can take it back (I think it's 30 days from date of purchase, but look on the back of the receipt to be sure). Otherwise, like everyone is suggesting - SF popsicles, SF Jello, clear broths. unjury makes a good chicken Soup but careful on the temperature or it'll clump (they post it on their site, not over I think 160 degrees so get your meat thermometers out and test the Water before adding to the packet). GOOD LUCK!

Just Started Soft Foods And I Feel Like I Screw Up Everytime I Eat!
4ALongerLife replied to LTARLTON's topic in Food and Nutrition
I can't add a whole bunch here as eveyrone's already said what I thought of.... myfitnesspal.com but use it on your phone if you can for the scanning option! Makes it soooo easy. I used to journal and it just burns me out. The scanner feature on myfitnesspal rocks. And I now don't journal my workouts ... instead that too is in myfitnesspal. The app gets easier with practice. So I encourage you to keep trying it. There's a screen where you can put the portion sizes in - and you can put in 1/8 of the serving for instance in myfitnesspal. I have a hard time on foods and understand what you said about feeling like I'm screwing up, it's actually what brought me into reading more on your post. I totally understand that sentiment. I still feel like "what am I doing" some days .... and I'm 9 weeks out. It gets easier, but we still have our moments (or maybe it's I was a cash pay and didn't have a NUT... so y'all are lucky). I'm working on changing that currently. Hang in there girl - you CAN do this! And don't force too much food ok? Stop whenever you feel full and speak to your NUT. Don't be too hard on yourself, we all have that to practice right? Best to you! xoxo -
Why Does The Elliptical Kick My Butt?
4ALongerLife replied to minaleigh's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Um, Lissa, IDK that I'm that person however.... here's my thoughts: Maybe it's just getting the movement "down"? I have used the elliptical for about 9 years now and I'm a total addict (I was doing 5 miles a day, 5 times a week prior to surgery even!). I still remember the first times whenever I couldn't do more than 7 minutes. It did kick butt. It's alot of movement and you have to find your groove PLUS you have to remember to breathe. I encourage you to stick to it... and remember it takes 21 days to make a habit. Do three minutes then add a minute or two each time on it.... keep it up and whammy, you finally get to more time than you thought! (oh and my ipod has to be on to plow thru the routines) Oh and btw, I still can't jog.. THAT killllllllllls me! -
I'm using myfitnesspal to help me track..... dunno if you are using something like that but I love it, it's helped. Unfortunately, it's a numbers game. They say that you have stalls at certain times in this journey... so remember it's patience to reach the goal (or so's I tell myself!). Best of luck to you desertmom!

How Did You Get Past The First Few Weeks Of Post Op?
4ALongerLife replied to kmbrlycool's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok first, you are totally "normal"! I got thru post op by being in the hospital. Ugh.. yes, I had a leak and an abscess. It totally sucked arse. I was in the hospital 20ish days of the 31 days of March. I was super nervous going thru the food phases, back to solids. Try different things and go back and try the protein drinks in a few days. Your body is changing and it'll surprise you how it reacts one day, then a few days later, it's different. Be patient and kind to yourself. But yes, we've all been there I'm purty certain! -

Pain In My Sternum Area
4ALongerLife replied to brittneyly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry I just saw this. It only happens whenever you eat and lasts longer thereafter? I am not in the medical field, so I'm not sure; however, for a minute, I called my dr.'s nurse as I was having this "wringing" affect in my tummy. Each time I would eat, it felt like a washrag was being wrung - that rag was my tummy. Dr.'s nurse thought I had a stricture. That's a narrowing of an opening, in my case, my tummy. I decided to attempt to slow down eating and whammy, that feeling went away. Are you eating/drinking more than you should at a given time? If possible, slow down. Do 1 oz every 15 mins, 4 ozs of liquid an hour. When eating, chew chew chew (if applicable at 9 days out, it was only liquids for me then but IDK about your dr's guidelines, if they are that different). Sorry ... dunno if that helped at all, but was trying! -
Good luck! And yes, remember it's not a race, there is NEVER a finish line so enjoy the journey and learn learn learn... goooo sexayyyyyyy!

I Think I Am A Sleeve Failure!
4ALongerLife replied to frumpy69's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You aren't alone on the BM issues.... Miralax is like a sand laxative. Sounds yummy doesn't it? You can mix it into anything you drink (or eat). It's what my dr's told me to have in case of constipation. Good luck. -
I don't chug, on purpose. My dr. scared me pre op with a story of someone who caused a leak due to chugging. Then again, I got a leak anyways, so what do I know.

Back To Work
4ALongerLife replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good lawd, I'm so sorry you've had such an experience. Work stress doesn't help alleviate anything Please get your rest and take care of yourself as best as you can. Call the dr. or ask his nurse what they suggest on the reflux. Good luck and hope that with each day it's getting easier for you! -
Protein Problems
4ALongerLife replied to ThisTimeIsIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite clear Protein drink is now called Whey Isolate at Vitamin Shoppe. I like the green (tropical) and the orange (tangerine). It's a 16 oz. bottle with 32 g of protein (it's whey protein isolate). They are 3.79 a bottle. Maybe get off of the shakes for a few days, then try them again. Don't give up on them forever, your body is changing. But call your dr. They get paid good money and you have the right to "pester" them ok? Do NOT feel bad on asking about YOUR HEALTH. Good luck! -
Post Op Mood Swings
4ALongerLife replied to mamacorney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd like to ask you to remember this: You are going through alot of changes. It's not easy. Handle yourself with care and don't beat yourself up. For most of us who used food as a tool to cope, it's like losing a love relationship. I hate to describe it in such maladaptive terminology, but it's true. I have many emotions inside of me on this change. It's not easy, emotionally making this change, the surgery was the easy part. And I say that after 20 some odd days of complications! Are you going to any support groups or have you seen a counselor before? Not saying you are crazy, but rather I'm suggesting talking it out with someone on all that you are feeling. I think you pegged it... the everyday satisfaction has been taken away, so now what? It's like grieving the death of a friend. You aren't alone. But let your husband in on how you're feeling if you can and close friends. Support helps! Best to you mama. xoxo -
Does This Sound Like A Leak?
4ALongerLife replied to AngieG0410's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
IDK what a leak first presents as, mine didn't feel like anything, until I had an abscess. I bet the ladies are correct and you have a bug or something... pls check with your dr. or his nurse and hope you get well soon! -
I Can Drink A Lot More Than 4 Oz.
4ALongerLife replied to pinkiguana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since I don't know and am not sure, I'd ask that you speak to your dr., nutritionist, bariatric consultant or someone in the medical field to be certain on those guidelines and when you can go beyond 4 oz.s. There are guidelines to follow to help you make a lifestyle change. And you can stretch your sleeve out. I'm not sure how leaks happen, what all causes each of them, but I had one and believe me ---- I'd rather make an extra call to pester my dr. or his office or a medical professional than wish a leak or it's effects on anyone else. -
