Denise, glad you have checked in, I was wondering how you are. Is the surgeon happy how the op went and are you feeling any better (physically) as a result? Sorry you are feeling so down emotionally, you have gone such a lot recently. I don't know what to say to pick you up, just sending you a big {{hug}}. -

To anyone not feeling good - hope you're feeling well soon. I'm struggling with food, just cannot seem to get my head around eating properly, never mind 5:2. I'm sabotaging myself and don't know why. Clothes are feeling the pinch and consequently I'm feeling crap. It seems an endless cycle at the moment. -

Denise I'm pleased that something is in place to try and help you, this has been going on so long for you that it must be getting you down, especially as it is a result of an op that was to help you. We are here for you whether up or down (that includes both mood and weight). Go and buy yourself a couple of nice tops that fit well and if looking at the size increase is upsetting then cut out the labels. Sheryl, you seem to have got yourself in a good place regarding your size and weight and that is really good, hand on heart I bet that is where we all want to be, not necessarily a chart size (BMI) but a size where we like and appreciate ourselves. You have been on a journey to get there both up and down (scale) and it is nice to hear your contentment. My official weigh in day is tomorrow but so far this week no move. I have realised though that I'm not consuming as much water as I was so I need to try and remedy this. Also my vitamin regime has tailed off and I really do need to rectify this as I feel it is having an effect on my skin. Sheryl we have decorated as we moved and we have just kept it plain in the bedrooms (feature wall and rest of walls on beige spectrum, feature wall is determined by furniture in room), in the lounge we have used a mixture of wallpaper and paint using the papered wall to bring an elongated room in so as to make it cosy. The bathrooms are luxurious with amazing tiles, kitchen very clean simple lines and the hallway/stairs is bold and different. My husband is really good with colours so he leads the way but I must admit in this house I have stepped out of my comfort zone and offered some opinion. I would never have the confidence though to offer advice to others. Birdwatching sounds amazing especially to see a bald eagle, must admit I just take for granted the birds around me and I couldn't really name them. It's nice to see more people dropping in and posting, love to all. -

I'm like you coops, 3lb down for January. The scale was good for this weeks weigh in so for February I'm down 2lb and I hope it continues to go down. Having the trainer back helps as I train with her for an hour on Tuesday which then seems to give the momentum to exercise 3 further times in the week. I can't say I like exercise but I do appreciate that it is a necessary evil for me. Florinda, hope you have sorted your pay out and found your thief or left a little laxative in the next box! I find it amazing that virtually all of us are fighting some regain, at least we all know how the others feel. We've got this Ladies. -

Gutted, my weigh in day is Wednesday and I'm up a Lb from last week, before the weekend I saw a solid 2lb loss but unfortunately I was not careful enough about the carbs and it has gone on plus one more. I only had 1 fast day this week due to work schedule but obviously it is the non fast days I need to concentrate on. Onward and upward ( not upward with the weight I hope). Coops hope you get your mum seen by the right medical team soon. Florinda, the Amazon name alone brings a picture to mind of a good job but also of stress too. It must be an amazing place but so so busy - you take care of yourself. Hope everyone else is fine. Is Sarah posting anywhere? I would like to see her TT pics. -

Florinda, where are you I want to know how the new job is going and what the new job is. Denise I don't recall seeing posts from asleevee4me though there are only a couple of areas of the website that I post and lurk around so I don't know her (him?). I hope that your current course of antibiotics does the trick and that you start feeling better in yourself soon. It sounds like we are all trying to have a good go at the 5:2 but of course life gets in the way. One thing I do like about it though is that I feel in control especially if I have a good fast day. We can only but try, it's when we stop trying that those nasty lbs sneak on. -

Instant Pot ( 2 words it seems) gets rave reviews both in US and UK, just wanted to get feedback from a real person, some people gush about it so much on Amazon I wonder if they are real reviews or if they are put out by the makers. The recipes look good! -

Have any of you got an instantpot or know anyone who does and give feedback. When I did the kitchen I changed to induction hob so my pressure cooker is redundant (have passed it on). It was over 30 years old so it didn't owe me anything and I know that pressure cookers have really moved on. I have read about the instantpot which is a slow cooker/rice cooker/pressure cooker + and it looks really interesting. I know it has been out in the USA for a while but only more recently offered in the UK. Any feedback would be helpful as it is quite costly and I don't want to waste my money. -

Good fast day Monday (508 calories), a clean eating day yesterday as well as a session with the trainer and I'm rewarded with a 2lb weight loss this week. So total is now 4lb off the regain. I need to keep this up but it sure is hard. I would be interested to hear if any of you took the survey on that bbc site (bbc.co.uk/rightdiet) to find out what sort of eater you are. I thought I was an emotional eater and it came out that way. Emotional eaters it said need groups to help with their weight loss and interaction and support of fellow dieters. That's why I need you guys, I don't have that support system around me here. The part of the UK I'm in does not seem to have support groups for WLS and those that do are only available to you if you had your op at their facility. I went to Europe for mine (equivalent of going to Mexico) so do not have follow up support. Denise I hope you get the problem with your wound sorted out soon. -
How was your 5:2 day today?

well I went back and looked at the programs again. The title of the program is What's the right diet for you? A Horizon special. I used BBCiplayer to watch it on my iPad. I'm not sure if BBCiplayer works overseas. There was 3 episodes. Basically they asked for 200 overweight volunteers, tested them with gene testing, hormone testing and psychological testing. The group was whittled down to 75 and they were then put into one of 3 groups: Constant cravers - these are people who were identified by genes in their gut which they said is quite a new piece of research. These people feel hungry even when they have eaten recently. It seems that the genes trick the brain into thinking the fat stores constantly need replenishing so they feel hungry. This group was put on the 5:2 diet but they had 800 calories on their fast day. Emotional eaters - this group was identified by psychological testing. One of them also had an MRI scan with the brain being in 2 different emotional states. The scan clearly identified that when sad the part of the brain that identifies with reward was much more active, so we want to reward ourselves when we are sad/stressed/angry. This group needed group support for their dieting and they were sent off to diet groups, asked to support each other online and given CBT. Feasters - this group overeat at mealtimes and just don't know when to stop as their 'full' signal was so slow. This group was identified by looking at gut hormones and they all seemed to be lacking or low in GLP1 (?). This group was put on a high protein & low GI foods, it was thought that this combination would help to give them that full feeling. Also this group had to look at portion control as their brain wasn't going to give them the signal so. They had to have physical control. They also conducted experiments with each of the groups to prove that they had identified people correctly into the right group. I found the whole 3 programs interesting and I hope you can get round to seeing them. To. Find out what group you fall into you can take a survey at bbc.co.uk/rightdiet -
Go back to your basics, chicken, fish cottage cheese. Remove any 'naughty' Snacks and replace them with good ones. Make sure you are having your Water and try to find an exercise you like. I too am struggling with some regain Some people here who are far out of surgery and struggling are using the 5:2, with this you fast (500 calories) on 2 days and for the other 5 days you eat a normal diet ( but keep it clean ie plenty Protein and veg). There are some links on the veterans forum. Like any program maintaining is the hard part. You have done good to come on and ask for help. Good Luck. You did it once and you can do it again.

We have just had a wonderful BBC program on about getting the right diet got your type. They interviews many people and whittled it down to 75 people separated into 3 types. 1 was always hungry, 2 was emotional eater and 3 was always thinking about food. It was really interesting. They gave them 3 types of diet and they were all successful. The 5:2 featured and I hope to précis it better soon. -

Coops I have been thinking these past couple of weeks. I saw some Facebook messages about someone passing and I could not work out the relationship bit I knew it was someone close,{{hugs}}. I know about the problems and worries about the mum, I have the same too. My mum is starting with the memory problem and it is a real worry. She is coming 84 and lives 200 miles away and I don't know what I'm going to do. I have spent the last 4 years looking after Kevin's mum and now it is time yo look after mine. I have family living close but it is me she seems to trust. I know she will need me in the next few months/ years and I will have to be there for her. She is my mum and looked after me so it is pay back but it is hard when I am so far away. It's hard because out of all of us 6 children I'm the one she thought least of but now it is me she seems dependent on. It seem ironic. -
