Hey There Newbie Let me start by saying i am new toi the band only 3 weeks into it. I am now eating any food i choose with very little issue. My portions are so small right now that a 2 year old could out eat me. This is no trouble what so ever. I am very satisfied with it and crave nothing at all. Pre band i was a cookie monster and loved cake too. The smell of fresh donuts got me pumped up. Now not even a nibble no craving and better yet no desire to eat that stuff. Any other diet i have been on would not shake that craving. Any other diet it would have drove me mental eating those small portions. You see the band actually has shut off all food desire for me. I eat because i have to not because i want to. I can't tell you everyone gets that result but I sure have. I told my doc this and he was not suprised. He felt it was a bit early for me to get this effect but this is the goal. I havn't even had my first fill yet, and so far no need to yet. It will come i'm sure. The only thing i havn't tried yet is bread, soda, and beer or spirits. I did have a glass of wine. It made me feel a bit odd so i will put that off till later. Hope this helps. Just remember you need to be comfortable with your decision in the end.

Stressed And Scared! Am I Doing The Right Thing?
Helmut replied to scalico's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there. I had mine done on Mar29 2012. I had no concerns going in but when i woke up i started questioning my choice. Talk about poor timing. Anyway, that quickly faded and now 2 weeks out i have no second thoughts at all. Only you can answer yourself. All i can offer is just be sure it is what you want and NEED and you'll be fine. As far as to many horror stories, you are right. I watched them too. After a lot of research i found almost every case was an issue of self control. Of course some are not but look at the thousands done and the very few problems encountered. -
Jachut Wholegrains and low GI foods>> have to read the labels. We have breads here in Canada that claim to be healthy and wholegrain. When you read the labels they are 150 calories a slice and made with refined white flour then have whole grains added. They also add surgar in the form of honey or molassess because most people will not eat a true whole grain bread.

Remember your body treat refined carbs as a sugar in a sense. Now read below After doing some research i found something that may help motivate the low carb crowd. It would seem 100 years ago(not that long in human time) the average person consumed 1 pound of sugar per year. Today the average person consumes 170 lbs of sugar per year. No wonder we are fat. The majority of this sugar is found already packaged into the food we eat. So called diet included. Something to think about for sure. I recommend you all do some reading on how insuline works in our body. You'll quickly see how the major food companies out there are misleading us.

Need To Shrink My Liver **help**
Helmut replied to new beginnings03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doc told me the first to gain and first to lose weight is the liver. SO no worries your liver will shrink just don't cheat yourself by eating carbs. By eating high protient low carb you will put your body into ketosis. The body produces ketones that kind of supercharge weight loss. -
My docs office actually told me yesterday that stress will make the band tight. I was suprised by that.

Hey Serenity don't be so hard on yourself. Sometimes like it or not we do get lost in the shuffle when it comes to other people paying us the attention we deserve. The trick is to make yourself known again and again until they pay attention. SO i would say just call them up again and start telling them how disappointed you are with the lack of follow up. If that doesn't perk them up send them the link to this thread that will get thier attention. After all they are a business that relies on good ratings like any other.

Banded In Ontario Canada
Helmut replied to iriegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi guys. I was done on March 29 at SWLC. So I am on day 5 post op. Dr. Cobourn did a good job i think. My pain has been very managable. The gas issue did give me a bit of a work over though to be honest but, that is mostly gone now. I cannot say enough about the crew there, They are very professional and friendly. My experience there at a private medical clinic shows me why our American cousins like the private health care system from a personal interaction point of view. I was impressed beyond belief. The pre op diet is manageable. The shakes are actually quite good i thought. I will tell you though that it does get a bit old after a week and really old after 2 weeks. Actually called Kim Midwinter the day before my surgery to see if i could just got out to a real dinner the night before. She said NO and I complied. Man I wish i wasn't so disiplined. LOL The surgery was on time and fast. The anestisia guy was great. He put me out so easy. I have had many surgeries over the years and never been put out that good. The nurse I had in pre op was very nice and friendly. The nurses after surgery were also great. Definitley not like our usual hospital staff we are acustom to. Word of note though>> anyone who accompanies you will not be allowed to sit with you to wait for surgery. They will be made to wait downstairs from the time you arrive until they are called to take you home. SO don't be offended by this. There is shopping malls and coffe shops around the clinic. You will be in surgery before you know it anyway. I actually lost 20+ lbs in that 2 weeks. Only real pain issue I have had again is the gas pain. Try to manage that with walking and gas x strips not the chewables they didnt really help. I got off the demerol 2 days after surgery and was ok that way. The incisions did not hurt at all. I do not even feel the band inside me. You will definitley have swelling inside wear the band is. Drink very very slow in small amounts. It took me one full day just to drink 500ml of Water for 3 days. Now i can almost drink normal. If you drink to fast you will feel it and it's not fun. I found if i stand up straight and push shoulders back that helped aliviate it. It does get better very fast.. I sure am looking forward to puree foods.. Actual meat woo-hoo. Feel free to ask any questions -
Tough luck on the relationship. Dude you nailed it calling food a drug. It certainly can be just that. Let's face it if all we ate was chicken fish and plain veggies we would not get addicted. Fact is that many manufactures today load food up with so many feel good chemicals just to keep us buying it. Sugar being the big kahuna of them. For many sugar is nothing more than legal cocain. Good luck bud

Hi there I Amon day 4 today. Dr Cobourn did mine on Thursday. He is a very nice man. The nurses are great too. The facility is very nice. Makes me wonder why we don't have more private medical in Canada for sure. I was treated with the utmost respect and caring. Good luck to you
