Yikes! I just re-read what I wrote. I'm sorry if I came off too harsh. I thought about editing it to tone it down, but decided against it. I meant what I said. What I wanted to say more than anything to Jan and MGM is that anyone who is taking on this challenge to recreate their life deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. Jan and MGM-I don't know you guys, but I know you are both incredible people for making a decision to change and taking massive action. It slipped within the first week of getting it, but I wasn't having any real problems other than eating anything I wanted, so the dr. didn't believe me. That was 2007, and he finally did the upper gi as a result of gallbladder issues this past January, and decided that it was, in fact, slipped.

Were you not married by this time by choice? Your choice, I mean.

MGM and Jan: I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TWO TO TELL US NEXT YEAR THAT YOUR DIVORCES ARE PENDING. The kind of disrespect you two have described is simply unforgivable, ESPECIALLY FROM A SPOUSE. "Good father", "good grandfather": whatever. Jan-what did your husband teach your son by getting the candy bars and throwing them in your lap? That doesn't sound like a good anything to me. No one deserves to be treated like this. Your husbands feeling "insecure" is absolutely no excuse for this. They have no respect for you, and shame on you if you let them treat you this way ever again. I sincerely hope that when you two lose the weight and feel better about yourselves, you realize that YOU ARE BETTER THAN THAT, AND IF THEY WON'T TREAT YOU WITH RESPECT, DIGNITY, AND LOVE, F--K THEM and go get the person you truly deserve. Sorry if I sound bitter, but no one should be treated like that, and certainly no one should treat someone like that in front of their children. Prepare mentally NOW for what may be inevitable.

Honestly, I don't understand the fear. Granted, I have already had the band, and am scheduled for revision on August 8th. Also, I had 2 cancer surgeries in 2004, and my gallbladder out about 4 months ago. However, the greater fear for me is NOT having the surgery and being miserable and obese for the rest of my life. Which scares you more? Death is a possibility whenever you step outside, but we face it everyday, don't we?

I'm scheduled for lap band to sleeve revision on August 8. At my psych eval, the therapist admitted to having had a bypass (she's still quite thin). She said that after the surgery and weight loss that my life would completely change. She then said my life would change in ways I couldn't imagine. So my question is this: what major life changes occurred for post-opers, and did they have changes that they could not imagine before surgery?

Got my date-August 8. It's a bit further out than I would like-what, tomorrow's not available?! Anyway, now the real waiting game begins.

Yeah, but it's a tough call. I have just lost 15 pounds on my own, and my wife would rather I just do it on my own. But, I have been down this road before, and I know that no matter how much I lose (I have lost over 100# on my own before), I won't be able to keep it off. So, yeah, I'm excited .

I just checked with my doctors office and found out I'm approved by the insurance so they'll call me in a few days and schedule everything. I just wanted to keep everybody informed. :-)

Author Joseph Campbell said that the cave you are most afraid to enter contains all the treasure. So don't be afraid. Also, don't be superstitious. Overwhelmingly almost everyone who has the surgery has an increased quality of life, and would do it again. Don't make this more complicated than it has to be.
