Is Feeling Ravenous Normal?
LeaveItToSleever replied to able2cope's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Being sleeved did not change my hunger. I still just as hungry as ever. -

Do Non-Sleevers Eat This Much Protein?
LeaveItToSleever replied to doxieville's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here! I ate a LOT more protein before my surgery. I have been tracking my nutrition for years and there is no comparison. I can only speak for myself, but I've always had a very healthy diet. Never fast food, junk food or sweets. My whole issue was QUANTITY. I'm eating much less now, therefore less protein. Before, I'd eat a 20 oz Porterhouse with NO problem (even after the pile of chicken wings). I can only eat 4-6 oz of steak now. -
Wish I Could Puke Like A Normal Person
LeaveItToSleever replied to Justine13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it helps, I totally relate. My sleeve didn't magically remove my hunger, the way it does for other people. And I'm surprised how much I can eat at 3 months out. CLEARLY we still need to control the self-destructive compulsions that kept us obese for so many years. Best wishes to you! -
How Much Weight Did You Lose Your First 2 Weeks?

"wls Is Not What God Intended..."
LeaveItToSleever replied to Susan 2.0's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I should add that it's ludicrous to imply that God prefers the greater complications of obesity to the lesser complications from surgery. -
"wls Is Not What God Intended..."
LeaveItToSleever replied to Susan 2.0's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As a Christian, I welcome and respect the opinions of nonbelievers. Every Christian I know came into this life as a nonbeliever. I concur with everyone who pointed out that most of our modern lives boil down to decisions that are more worldly than Godly. God never intended for us to wear clothes, after all. Or make war upon one another. If your friend was a Jehovahs Witness, I could understand her having a position against surgery, or any type of medical intervention (heart bypass, tumor removal) but obviously that is not the case. Her reasoning that there might be complications from an "unnatural edge" inside the stomach is ridiculous in light of her implant procedure; and her assertion that her implants are not permanent doesn't stand up unless they dissolve or are removed within a few years of getting them (perhaps after the medical problems they are treating are cured). If she's as smart as you say, I'm sure she'll soon realize she isn't making any sense and apologize for saying those things to you. Peace and best wishes to you on your journey to better health! -
The Scale...my New Obsession
LeaveItToSleever replied to meredith004's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Why are you upset? Do you actually think you have gained 7 lbs of fat? 1 lb = 3500 calories. 7 lbs = 24,500 calories. Did you eat 24,500 calories one of those days? Of course you didn't! So what else weighs a pound? How about 2 glasses of Water? Bingo. There are 14 glasses of water hiding in your body. And you can lose ALL of them in three and a half hours just by sweating and peeing. Please calm down. You're doing fine! Case in point: yesterday, I lost 4 lbs between 6am and 11am. I'm not excited OR upset by this, because I know it is WATER weight. Most people will probably tell you to stop weighing yourself every day, and switch to once a week, or even to stop weighing yourself entirely. I would tell you to weigh yourself MORE often, so you will see the water phenomenon for yourself, and no longer find it so upsetting. The amount of water in your body tissues fluctuates constantly, depending on many metabolic processes. In most people, it's a few pounds EVERY DAY, and they aren't aware of it because they don't strip down and weigh themselves hourly. But whether you know it or not, you're gaining and losing pounds of water all day long. Try to keep the numbers in perspective, and be proud of your accomplishments. You ARE losing fat, it just takes a little bit longer for the results to show up on the scale. Best wishes on your journey! -
Ha! To me, just losing 20 was a miracle! I am only comparing myself to ME. Therefore, any loss is miraculous. So, who you are comparing yourself to? If it isn't YOU, I highly recommend more introspection! Good luck!

Another Reason Not To Tell People.....
LeaveItToSleever replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't agree more! Nobody has any reason to think I had WLS. Everyone who knows me has seen me struggle and yo-yo. After surgery I did not lose weight fast enough to alarm anyone, and now I eat normally, for the first time EVER. No more pigging out and losing control at EVERY. SINGLE. MEAL. I am satisfied with a NORMAL portion (not a restaurant portion, plus a restaurant appetizer, plus dessert, the way I used to do; and no more 3 trips to the buffet!). -
Sleeping After Surgery?

No, but I did sleep pretty much all day for the first week after surgery. -

Why Don't I Just Tell People I Had Sleeve Surgery
LeaveItToSleever replied to The Big Dog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only one person in the world knows about my surgery. I am guarded about personal issues and privacy. However, in light of the fact that you've already volunteered information about having surgery, I think your boss may be right. I think I'd go public. As far as "taking the easy way out'... this might surprise or offend people, but in having WLS, I think I did take the easy way out, and if someone made that particular comment to me I would AGREE with them, because it has NEVER been this easy to lose weight. I took the hard way for 45 years, and where did it get me? Where does it get anyone? So if some smartmouth judemental person made that comment to me, I would probably respond with something like "The easy way out... okay, let me understand what you're saying...you're upset that it is easier for me to lose weight because it makes YOU happier when it's more difficult for me? So this is about you?" Then a conversation could ensue where we would get to the bottom of such bitter and asinine attitudes. My opinion is, why should we suffer and struggle? Why does that make other people happy? My attitude is darn right I took the easy way out... of a CASKET. WHY should it be hard to lose weight or keep it off? Who benefits from that??? I'd love to hear a valid argument from someone who made such a comment. -

Blury Eye Sight

Call your doctor immediately. Blurred vision can be very serious. -
I resumed my morning joe a few days after surgery. Since then I've had a cup every day. I weaned down for 2 months prior to surgery, then stopped completely a few days before, and a few days after. But I do enjoy my morning cup and would never want to give up all the health benefits of coffee. And coffee has never increased my hunger... kind of the opposite. Caffeine is a general vasoconstrictor (all blood vessels), which is why it relieves headaches. Doctors warn against coffee and NSAIDs because they can irritate the stomach.

Pushing It?
LeaveItToSleever replied to lisa.mccroskey@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You MUST take the vitamins and meet your protein requirements, first and foremost. I'm glad you're feeling so great, but be careful. What is your Rx for? Pain? Because I didn't take mine either. I also felt good and tolerated everything I ate, but make sure you get the nutrition you need and DON'T EAT JUNK FOOD. -
I Hate Water!
LeaveItToSleever replied to LawDiva312's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had the metallic taste thing you describe, but then again I didn't drink any plain water for a couple weeks after my surgery. And yes, you will be able to gulp down a lot more water (and much faster) several weeks after surgery than you can immediately post-op. I'm able to mow the lawn and cut the hedges now, in blazing hot sun, and chug it down well enough to stay hydrated. -
Chinese Food
LeaveItToSleever replied to billyvmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can have it when you get to the solid food stage. The liquid and puree stages don't ast long- that part will be over before you know it. I still enjoy all my favorite foods. Everything tastes just as good for me; just TINY PORTIONS. I had a delicious 2oz Porterhouse last night and Pinot Noir too. Still losing weight well, and I've always exercised regularly. My sleeve is a dream come true. I never thought I could eat this little. -
