    Acid Reflux Long Term

I had horrible reflux prior to surgery. I'd been taking protonix daily for about 7 years. I would need to supplement it with tums and/or pepcid almost daily. Now, I'm almost 2 months post op, and take 1 prilosec daily. I did not have a hernia repair. I still occasionally have episodes, mainly if I go too long without eating, or eat too much dairy (that was always a trigger food in the past for me too). I don't get it anywhere near as bad as I used too. Prior to surgery my dr tried to sway me from doing the sleeve because of my reflux. He said typically it can exacerbate the issue. I really think he was trying to sway me to do rny. Even if I had to take prilosec daily for the rest of my life, I'd have no problem with doing that, because the surgery was worth it.

    Riding Roller Coaster

Personally, I wouldn't see roller coasters to be an issue. I'm looking forward to riding one, hopefully soon. My surgeon cleared me for all activities (as long as I felt ok doing them) at my 9 day post op appt. I'd say as long as you feel comfortable riding one, go for it!!

Nagging Cough 3 1/2 Weeks Out.

I had to use a spirometer for 2 weeks post op, which aided the phlegm in coming up. I'm almost 2 months post op now, and still cough occasionally. It does tend to happen when I eat too fast or eat too much. It's annoying, but it's definitely helped me learn when to stop.
  4. I agree wholeheartedly with everyone else. I'm very glad you rescheduled your surgery, and are deciding to take the steps necessary to make yourself happy and healthy. I'm almost 2 months out, but still go out to eat with my family, and nothing seems off. We went to a burger joint last night, and while my husband was eating a huge cheeseburger and fries I ate a grilled chicken sandwich minus the bread. I was finished before everyone sure, but so was my 18 month old, so instead of her getting antsy because we were all still eating, I took her out of her seat and we walked around and played. It was fantastic.
  5. I'm guessing it's from the weight loss, perhaps I'm sitting or walking differently now, but for the past 2 weeks or so my hips have been killing me. The only way to describe it is a dull ache (similar to how they feel during pregnancy when they're widening). It stinks because my job requires me to sit at a desk for 10 hours/day. I keep shimmying around, or standing up to stretch. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm guessing it's from my 40 lb weight loss, and maybe my body is still sitting and moving like my old 270 lb body, and my new one doesn't like it so much?

    Hip Pain?

Thanks everyone. I do stand up, stretch, walk to the bathroom and back etc throughout the shift, but as soon as I sit back down the pain is back. Sounds like it's pretty normal. I hope it gets better soon.

    Overeating?

Liquids will pass through your sleeve quickly, so you'll definitely be able to go through those quickly and likely feel almost no restriction. As for food, I also don't measure. I go by feel, and it certainly changes from one day to the next. Sometimes I can finish a whole greek yogurt with granola, sometimes I can only finish half. Based on all the posts I've seen here, ab's research I've done, it doesn't appear that you can really stretch the stomach that much.
  8. Honestly, even though I'm down almost 40 lbs (from surgery, ha!) no one besides my husband and mother in law have asked how much I've lost. I always tell my mother in law the full amt, but my husband has gone through the entire process with me, so he knows the # I give him is since March.

    Dental Issues ?

I'd recommend a 2nd opinion as well. I just went for my 6 month check up last week, and had 0 cavities.

    Sugar

I've never had a problem with real sugar, I tolerate it better than the artificial stuff, since I tend to get headaches from that. I've also read studies about how artificial sweetners can cause hunger. I do drink Wylers and crystal light occasionally, but mainly stick to apple juice and water.

    Quick Question

I tend to get that feeling when I'm just a smidge too full, or if I drank one sip too much. Could that be the case with you as well?
  12. I'd love to go from my sleeved weight of 271 to 140ish, but my personal goal is 175. It's the lightest I've ever been. Anything less than that will be a plus! Both weights fall within the expected range.

    Night Shift

Personally I would never eat, then go to bed. My reflux was horrible, so that would have made things worse. I'd eat "lunch" around 5:30 am, maybe snack around 7am, get off work at 9:30 am, get home around 10:30 am, go to bed around 11:30.
  14. I had my surgery on a monday, and I was driving by that Thursday evening (which is also when I went back to work). My car is a manual transmission, and it was a little painful to shift, but overall I was fine my drive to and from work (36 miles each way).

    Night Shift

I work nights as well, 11 pm-9:30 am. I know that for me, this will be the biggest obstacle where weight loss is concerned, especially since the 100+ lbs I'm hoping to lose was put on after I started working this shift.

    Fluids

It seems my surgeon is the only one with a guideline of 30/60. Nothing to drink 30 minutes before eating, and 60 minutes afterwards. That hour is rough, but I've been faithfully following it.

    March Sleever's Status Update?

Sleeved 3/12, weight the day of surgery: 271, current weight: 239! Woohoo! I've had numerous stalls, and due to my work schedule have had difficulty exercising daily, but I'm quite pleased with the results thus far. (and the numerous compliments from my husband and mother in law)

    No Meds

My surgeon doesn't prescribe meds post op for gall stones. He said they'll correct the issue if it occurs, but it's not too big of a post op issue in his practice.
  19. I'm with you on the husband gripe too. Every night this week it's been pasta or burgers for dinner. I can't do either, but both smell so amazing, then he'll have a big ole bowl of ice cream for dessert. I swear that he's overeating now, like he's eating the food I can't. I'm actually worried that he's going to eat himself to the point I was at pre surgery. I've mentioned my concerns to him numerous times, and he laughs it off.

    Lasagna Cupcakes!

I got my wonton wrappers in the frozen food section of my regular grocery store. I had to search a while, since they're kinda small and don't stick out much.
  21. I'll admit, I've given in to my head hunger once or twice... Nothing tastes the same anymore. Sweets are too sweet, salty foods are too salty. I don't have the head hunger too bad anymore because I know nothing tastes as amazing as it used to. Maybe giving in is just the deterrent you need?

    Hot Vs Cold Drinks

I'm a month out and find cold to be what I'm craving all the time. I was never a hot drink drinker though. I do agree with what was said before. Cold on an empty tummy does cause cramping and queasiness in me still. I don't usually drink anything when I wake up. I'll have my first drink of the day after breakfast or a light snack.
  23. For me it was reaching a small goal of 240 lbs. 40 lbs lighter than when I started this journey, and I haven't weighed this since before I got pregnant with my oldest daughter, almost 6 years ago.
  24. I haven't had a protein drink since about week 2 post op, I just can't stomach them. The Nectar ones are by far the best, but my last banana flavored protein drink tasted like peanuts (not bananas, and I absolutely detest peanuts) so I'm a little scarred by that. I'm now a little over a month out. I'm down 31 lbs since surgery (11 lbs just this week). So even without the protein drinks, I'm still losing like a champ.

    When Did You Eat Salad?

I just hit my 1 month mark, and I got a salad the other day. I mainly got it for the Turkey and hard boiled egg, but I put some light dressing on and ate some lettuce, cuke, and bell pepper too. It sat fine, no problems.
