  1. I had my band done by Dr. Edward Pucci in Denville in February 07, but recently switched to Dr.Nussbaum at St. Barnabas who I would highly recommend.

    Don't know what to do

Hi, I wanted to share my story with you. I was banded in February 2007 and did very well for the first year or so. I went for each fill and managed to lose about 50 pounds. ( I have a 10cc band that was supposedly filled to 7.5 ccs. ) Around the year anniversary of my surgery, I was not feeling much restriction and began to gain weight. I was hospitalized in March of 08 due to severe gastrointestinal flu (I'm a school nurse and more than half of the kids/teachers were out with the same thing) and really felt like something just wasn't right after that. The weight started to pile back on despite the fact that I was in the gym 5 days a week and still doing all the right things. I had another fill in April of 08, which did absolutely nothing for me as far as restriction. Out of sheer frustration, in July of this year, I decided to seek another opinion to see if something was wrong with the band and not me! I went to a doctor in NJ who was recommended to me by my aunt who is the CEO of a local hospital. I finally got in to see him the third week in August and I am so glad I did. Last week, I had my first fill with him, which he did under fluroscopy...he took a look at my band while he filled it. In a nutshell, what he found was that my band was kinked, had an excessive amount of tubing attached, and had almost nothing in it. He played around with it for a few minutes, gave me a fill and I immediately felt restriction. Luckily, the kink was small (for now, but might need to be fixed) but didn't obstruct anything. I have already started losing weight again and have felt real restriction for the first time in ages! My point is, please make sure that everything is ok with your band before you give up and get a second opinion if you need to. As this new surgeon explained, he does every fill under fleuroscopy so he can actually see what's going on...not just an in and out visit in the office! I feel so much more hope these days.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi to all you beautiful February bandsters! I hope all are well. I had my surgery on 2/19 and am doing very well. I have lost 23 pounds and am really starting to see some changes. I didn't tell many people at work..I am a school nurse and wasn't ready for all the comments, horror stories, etc. Once I went back (a week later) I felt much more comfortable telling my co workers. So far, people have been curious, but very supportive. I have had some difficulty with the appetite..I'm really not hungry and have been struggling with getting all the protein in. I love the clear Isopure drinks! The only downside that I can see this far is that I still don't have a lot of energy. At the end of school I am tired! I also had a bout of the stomach virus that hit our school hard, but managed OK. :sick Has anyone else experienced the fatigue? I do get about 60 gms. of protein a day, but am certainly not back to my pre surgery energy level.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi All! I was banded on 2/19 in Northern NJ and I am feeling very good! Still have a little gas in the morning, but am up and around. The only other problem that I have is the extreme bruising on my abdomen! It looks like someone beat me up. Has anyone experienced that! I can chalk it up to my fair Irish skin I guess. I am still on clears, but did have some watered down tomato soup...it was great! Hope all of you are recovering well.

    5 days gone

It's been five days since my lap band and I am feeling better every day! I still have some gas which is worst in the morning, but I am up and around. I am driving again..went to Walmart, walked around for about an hour. I am very bruised..but I'm told that's normal. I will be back at work on Monday. Hopefully, the word hasn't gotten out, and I won't have to answer many quesitons!

  7. Hi, I was diagnosed with PCOS about six years ago. It took quite a few years before that to find a physician who actually believed that there was something wrong with me besides just weight gain. I had my band on Monday and am doing well. In order to get the procedure covered (BMI is 35) my primary care physician and endocrinologist worked with my surgeon. Both wrote letters on my behalf and in the end, the surgeon himself actually spoke to the insurance company. I am glad I persued the surgery, as my PCOS symptoms were getting worse, despite being on large doses of Metformin, etc. Good Luck.
  8. Hi to All! My name is Megan, I am a nurse from NJ and I had my LapBand today at Saint Clare's Hospital in Dover NJ with Dr. Edward Pucci. So far, so good! The gas is pretty bad, but the painkillers are doing the trick. Would love to hear from other recent LapBand folks!
