Not Ready For Protein Shakes - What's A Newbie To Do?
CaliKat replied to phatdivabbw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Isopure Zer Carb isn't horrible- just dope it with extra crystal lite and it's kinda good! You should be able to buy angles of it in their refrigerated section- if not, they have a great return policy. Often ther staff will let you try things before buying too. Oh and check their website- last week they had a 20% off coupon online -
Get a cranberry juice and (half soda half water) add a lime and it looks just like a cocktail. I stir the hell out of it so there is no bubbles/carbonation

Hiccups are my body telling me I ate too fast. The boyfriend always laughs when I start hiccuping cause its a sure sign im done. They never last long though.
-
It WILL get better. Your desire to eat will return and your ability to drink will come back too. The small sippy-sips will turn into larger sips and eventually mouthfulls. The gurgling.... thats gonna be with you for a looooong time! The incision pain should be subsiding soon- if not call your surgeon. It gets easier every day. Promise!

I was experiencing the same thing and my surgeon said it was dehydration. He recommends 8oz Water right before bed and 8oz as soon as you get up. Have been following that and havent has AM nausea since.

Awesome!!! You motivate me!!! Love your ticker BTW!

Once You Lose Your Butt Is It Gone Forever!?
CaliKat replied to beautifuldiva's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Stairsteppers, lunges and elliptical. If you dont have a gym membership google "mountainclimbers" or "squats" for at-home workout tips. I did have a nice one.... mine has gotten flatter- but im kicking the workouts up a notch and noticing a difference. -
hmmm- I never had this issue and ive got large "girls" too. Try wearing a sports bra and/or tanks with built in support. My best guess is that you have underwires rubbing- and based upon where my incisions were placed, that means your underwires are too low and you need a new bra (or to snug up the shoulder straps). But that is based upon my incisions- yours may be higher. Also- good news on the horizion- as my belly shrunk- my breasts no longer rest against it! So even if your incisions are higher and none of the above solutions work for you.... its just a short-term problem for you. Happy healing and congrats on the sleeve!

Yup- happens to me too, especially when gardenng. I chalk it up to dehydration, having the blood rush to the head when you bend over and (possibly) bending at the hip- compressing the stomach. I'm 8 weeks out and it happens less and less- the first few weeks It happened a lot and was kinda freaky! Drink lots of Water if you're outside, try to work in the shade or wear a hat and minimize the bending. For what it's worth, I get the hot flashes & nausea mostly when my tummy is full.

I Am Having Major Pain
CaliKat replied to mommymar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your Dr immediately. Even on a holiday, they should be available on-call. May be gallbladder issues. Dont wait till it gets worse. -
Ive got a Mirena and I had a small (extremely light)& short period a few weeks after surgery and nothing since. I still get the cramps and breast fatigue- but no blood or spotting. Hurray for no period and weight loss!

I went back to work four days after surgery and wore my "girdle" then. I did not have a drain and my incisions healed beautifuly. I always put some neosporin on my incisions before putting my "girdle" on and every day I wore a clean one. I had no issue with it bothering my incisions. Just a day or two of a tiny, tiny clear Fluid leaking. I wear a waist one- its just an 14" elastic shaper with hooks that goes hip to under breasts. It does have metal boning in it that can get uncomfortable if I wear it longer than 12 hours. If you want something more comfortable or less constrictive, try wearing Spanx brand or even the BellaBand (a pregnancy garment).

Ive been going to the gym 2-3x week since surgery and was never that psyched on it... but last night I had TRIFECTA of NSV's!! And its soooooo encouraging, I have to share! 1. Ran a tredmill 5k in under 45 minutes without stopping and without doing any training! 2. Pre-VSG I was a sweat-er at the gym.... I mean it looked like I just got out of the pool sweat-er and it was so embarassing... and last night, a bit of perspiration, but nothing close to like it was before! 3. My form-fitting yoga pants were falling down! **bonus** 4. Im not even sore today! Im in a bit of a stall lately, so these NSV's were particularly sweet! All you staller's- get on out there this weekend and get your sweat on..... we will break this insanity NOW!
-
Yup- we all fall prey to the carb every now and then.... dont sweat it and hit the gym for an extra 20 min.. I was dying for a pretty lunch- a proper lunch where it wasnt all turkey bacon and tuna salad and cheeses and..... anyways- so I bought the Wasa crackers and that helped me get the crunch and it works as a dipping cracker too! They are about the size of a graham cracker but are as basic as a cracker can get, not a whole lot of artificial flavors here. I get the whole wheat flavor (10g carbs/cracker) and top it with swiss cheese and a scoop of chicken/tuna salad and call that my lunch. It looks like a normal lunch- so co workers wont pry and is darn filling. A big plus is since they dont taste like Club butter crackers or wheathins, you wornt eat the whole freakin box!

now, at 8 weeks out I can say from experience that I can take "gulps" of liquids now and be OK. I used to be able to down a whole bottle of Water in less than 30 seconds- now I have to take 3 meduium gulps and take a few minutes. I used to be a big drinker (probably pre-diabetes!) but now since I sip-sip-sip all darn day, I dont find myself super thirsty. On those hot days when i work in the garden or play soccer, its nice to still be able to gulp though! My guess is that you will probably be able to gulp a bit after a few weeks post-op.
-
For what its worth..... Ive been drinking with a straw since day 5 and it hasnt affected me, my sleeve or increased the gas pain (although to be fair... I never had any gas pain at all!). Now im 8 weeks out, I do take care not to swallow gulps of air and make sure to only take sips that wont give me the gut rocks (Hard knot in gut from drinking so fast)! I find that drinking through a straw supercharges my liquid intake- I have never failed to hit the 70oz of liquid benchmark yet!

Caloric Intake Is It Too Low
CaliKat replied to simplyQuel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUTs Protein goals are 90-100g/day and 500-500calories At first i struggled with getting enough liquids, waiting the 30 min before/after and then fitting as much dense protein as i could into 30 minutes..... I found myself staying up later just to eat and drink!! It was CRAZY! Now.... I have had a few weeks to "smarten up" and this is my basic plan: Breakfast 6oz greek yogurt (non fat plain flavored w/ splenda and torani syrups) (20g protein) 2 bottles of water/diet green tea (24ox liquid) SNACK 1 RTD protein shake (30g protein & 12oz liquid) OR tofu snackers (15g pro) lunch 2oz dense protein (usually lunchmeat or tuna or chix breast) (15g pro) 2 bottles of water/crystal lite (24oz liquid) dinner 2oz dense protein & small babybell cheese (20g pro) SNACK 1 homeade protein shake with skim milk & 1 funsize dark chocolate (35g pro & 12oz liquid) OR 1 homemade protein pudding (15g pro) RIGHT BEFORE BED 8oz Water (prevents AM nausea & dizzyness) -

Has Anyone Felt A Little Withdrawn After Surgery?
CaliKat replied to wantingtolivehealthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im opposite- I feel more apt to go out cause I feel in control now. I havent told anyone that I got this surgery either. I used to hate knowing that my weight was creeping up and people were noticing- I used to avoid situations with food because I really hated feeling like people were judging me by what I was eating. Now when I go out with the girls or with a couple, I order what I want without guilt- and the eating part, i usually brush it off as I had a crazy day and just had dinner or whatever. -
1000-1400 Cal/day At 3 Months Post Op
CaliKat replied to windycitymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call a local hospital or surgeon that does WLS for a NUT referral- they should be willing to work with you even though you didnt get surgery from them. -
Gnc Unflavored Protein..
CaliKat replied to jaymzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never with plain water- its not 100% unflavored and it mixes kinda cloudy. If you want to mix it with Water, mix it with a Mio or Crystal Lite. Otherwards use it for homemade popcicles or whatever. -
My surgeon says MINIMUM 64 oz daily and add 8oz for every 10 degrees the temperature rises above 75. Also add more if you are sweating durring your work outs. I have been told that urine should always be lemonade or green tea (caused by vitamins) color and not tea-tea colored- otherwise its a sure sign of dehydration.

Soooo Bored Of Chicken, Tuna, Crab And Beans
CaliKat replied to shrinkinmama's topic in Food and Nutrition
my go-to foods are turkey meatballs and marinara, crock pot pot roast, turkey bacon and eggs, tacos(no shell) or taco salad, tuna on Wasa crackers, crab cakes (baked not fried), cajun fish (grilled), grilled flank steaks, shrimp cocktail.... I say go-to because I can make most of these in under 30 minutes or keep them in the fridge or freezer ready to eat. Check out theworldaccordingtoeggface.com for some awesome WLS ideas.
