Extreme Nausea 28 Days Post
CaliKat replied to carol m's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its probably deyhdration. I have had slight morning nausea since surgery (now 10 weeks out) and I do get my 65oz of liquid in.... but have taken to drinking 8oz right before bed at night and 8oz as soon as I get up and no more nausea! Now... I do get the spins, the tingles and/or sick if I eat too fast or too much. But thats a different topic all together! Try the Water before/after bed. It should help. -
Try getting in a routine. I dont struggle with getting my water/proteins in (@10 weeks).... but I do have to be concious to not overeat(thank you head hunger/addictive personality!) I beat that with a schedule and routine: First thing in the AM: 8oz clear liquid (Poweraide zero, coffee, tea or water) Breakfast: RTD Protein shake and babybell cheese or 2 strips of turkey bacon (im always on the go in the morning and need to be able to eat durring the commute) Snack: laughing cow spredable & 1 or 2 slice deli meat Liquid snack: 16oz diet green iced tea Lunch: few steak strips w/deli mustard Liquid snack: 16oz beverage Snack: RTD Protein Shake Dinner: small filet fish/chicken/pork Dessert: splenda sweetened greek yogurt Right before bedtime: 8oz clear liquid (helps with the dehydration headaches and nausea in the AM) This helps me get between 90-110g protein/day, 64oz liquids and keeps me under 800 calories.

Butt And Leg Excersices?
CaliKat replied to jaymzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lunges!!!! When they become "easy" try them simontaneously with bicep curls- use a 5, 8 or 10lb hand dumbell. Mountain climbers High Knees Ball Squats on a wall You can google or youtube the above for workout technique. I also love fitsugar.com for girlie workout tips and food (although you have to adapt it to WLS food) -
Lots of sugar substitues can cause diahrea- similar to dumping but its just the plain ole runs. Since we are eating & drinking lots of things with artificial sweeteners and not getting lots of fiber.... I suppose its bound to happen!

Able To Eat More Over Night?!
CaliKat replied to trojanchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup- can eat, drink lots of soups, yogurts, protein shakes (up to 8oz in 30 min) but need to stop at 3oz of deli meat. I find anything that is drip-able, smooshable or needs a lid... I can have lots more of! -
Im a snacker too- here are my tops: Turkey Pepperoni chips (miccrowave chips 1-2 min until crispy) keeps for days in ziploc Greek yogurt fruit dip (flavor greek yogurt with SF jam or Torani syrups). Greek yogurt, splenda and carmel or hazlenut syrup really is amazing! mcDonalds skinny SF iced vanilla late (not a "snack" perse, but awesome none the less Ham & swill roll-ups- make a few and keep in fridge for easy snacking egg muffins (small muffin size crustless quiches) beef jerkey Most of these can be found at www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com or search the VST food forum. Food bordem can lead to bad choices.... hope you get some inspiration out of these.

4 Months Post Op- Horrible Bruising And Itching!
CaliKat replied to nicmack31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont have the bruising (yet) but an curious about the itching.... I have been itching like crazy the past 2 weeks and I cant figure it out. No changes in detergent or food or....? Sorry to hear about the bruising- its gonna be a long summer if you are stuck in pants and long sleeves! -
My BF and I have a trainer- we meet 5x week for an hour of training! We get a killer rate of $1000/month for everything! When we were just on a week-to-week basis we were paying $55/hr for individual workouts. 4x week we meet at the gym- Mondays & Wednesdays I stregnth train with him (those days my BF does the cardio that the trainer recommends) Tuesdays & Thursdays I do the cardio and the BF does the weight training with trainer. 1x week we do an outside activity.... 2hr bike ride, 5k race, mini triathalon, etc.... When you work with a trainer, make sure they are comfortable with you and vice versa. Make sure they understand your goals and make a plan to get there together. Dont settle for soneone who is going to push their fitness mantra, their products or their lifestyle. You can find many independent certified trainers on Craigslist or even ones at your local gym.

Sippin Sippin Sippin
CaliKat replied to RawrrAshleex3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3 weeks and I was taking pretty normal drinks. I sip, sip, sipped at first but now I can gulp about 3x w/o getting that hard knot in my throat. Everyday your capacity may vary- but in the early post-op stages I am betting you will be seeing daily improvement until you find your "new normal". -
What's Wrong? Food Stuck? Stricture? Help!
CaliKat replied to CynthiaK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you think something is truly stuck- see a Dr. immediately. If you arent in immediate danger, call your surgeon first thing in the AM and get some reassurance. Are you on any espohegeal spasm medicine? I was perscribed something to take the first month if I was having esophogeal issues (to take on an as-needed basis). It starts with an M, but cant remember.... anyways, this was susposed to help the throat relax so you dont feel that way. Most likely it is your throat adjusting to solids again. -
Wear a support garment (or two) when you walk or work out. Try Flexees, Spanx or BellaBand for stomach support- some are more comfortable than others and all are sold at Target, JCPennys or Sears for under $35. I carry most of my weight in the belly too and am similar weight as you- I always wear a support garment when working out. I like to run and find things dont jiggle or flap as bad when wearing them. I usually double up with belly support and a compression workout tank top. Keep walking, do what you can do to work out at home and you will do fine.

Ive been told no diet soda BEFORE 6 months cause of the carbonation- it can cause damage to your staple line even then. No diet soda AFTER 6 months because it is likely a trigger/gateway food for junk and makes you crave junk. As I understand it.... sparkling water/club soda is OK in moderation after 6 months.

I just went through this! Im 8 weeks and have been getting all my Protein & Water and it has been easy-peasy recovery for me..... but last week I was exhausted every day! I fell asleep early and got up late, just wanted to linger on the couch and if I was outside (just laying in patio chair) I would get fatigued even easier! I cant attribute it to anything- I doubled my B12 dose this week and seem to be a lot better off. I also changed it up so I walk/workout in the mornings instead of at night. im in a stall though- so maybe when the loss stalls.... so does the energy? Its kinda random but its good to know that it just may be a quick phase. Hope you pass it soon.

Put it in the freezer and shake occationally. You can also use crushed ice and put it in the blender. Just a few zaps in the blender with crushed ice will make it slushie-ish. Or..... Find a shave ice place and buy plain ice and drizzle your Protein Shake (made with much less Water so it's thick) over the ice. Again, this works best with a lemonaide or fruit punch flavor.
-
Make slushies out of your Protein drinks- try some Syntrax nectar sample packets and make slushies!! I love the iced tea and lemonade- isn't cloying or too thick. It's actually refreshing!
-
Sip, sip, sip Wash that stuff out and down. Lesson learned and hope you feel better!

im 8 weeks and can do "crunches" just fine, but the scissor ball excercises (holding a big ball between ankles and doing sit-ups to xfer ball from hands to ankles) made me curl up and die!! After 10 I thought I had ripped my stomach open! Pre-op I could do 25+ w/o whining! I would say ask your doc after 6-8 weeks and try it slowly- dont push it too far. You dont want to risk giving yourself a hernia!
-
probably dehydration. try upping your liquids by 12-20oz and drink a glass of Water right before bed and as soon as you get up. I can eat anything- and I mean ANYTHING and started to feel a bit nausious in the AM. Dr said it was cause I wasnt getting enough liquid now that I could actually eat food! now its h20 before bed and first thing and no more nausea!

My breakfast is always something I can grab and go. Usually its a RTD shake and a Protein. I like egg muffins or grilled cheese. Egg Muffins! 6 eggs 1/4c lowfat shredded cheese (I like sharp cheddar) 1/2c diced protein (ham, turkey, SPAM lite, etc) salt/pepper/hot sauce to taste Pour into well greased (with PAM) muffin tins and bake @400 for 12-16min. Makes 6-8 muffins and will keep in fridge for a week- microwave for 30 sec on high to reheat. Dont know the calorie count, but assume its pretty low along with low carbs. Grilled cheese "sandwich" 2 slices fosters farms turkey deli meat 1.5 slices cheese (I love the lowfat swiss) sliced tomato, scallions or any soft veggie of your preference spray non-stick with PAM heat to medium-high brown one slice of turkey 30 seconds/side add cheese, veggie and second slice of meat flip and toast both sides until kinda golden brown or kinda crispy. Can be eaten immediately or you can make a few and save them in baggies in fridge. Only about 130 cal per sammy, less 5 carbs and about 30g protein!

@mrdflyboybs: Im similar stats and surgery date to you and currently..... in a 10 day stall. I contacted my NUT and her response is to keep between 600-800cal, 90+g Protein and under 30g carbs/day. She told me that with my BMI- the likely cause of my stall is excessive carb intake (which is truthful- I let myself go hog wild this last week). Stay the course of 600-800 cal/day, watch the carbs and lets bust out of this stall together. There is no humanly way that this is as low as were gonna get- we got "one-derland" just a few short weeks ahead!
-
Im in! Been stalled the past week- but its because ive been overeating CARBS! July 4th Goals: loose 25 lbs (also surgeons goal) (at least 1hr cardio 3x/week Carefuly log & observe carb & calorie limits! Lets do it!!

Milk, My Friend, Why Do You Insist On Hating Me?
CaliKat replied to hollirrose's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Truthfully- I had no idea it would.... I kinda did it cause the thought of not drinking milk, having yogurt or cheese was way to limiting for me and it was a stab in the dark! Thankfully it paid off! -
Milk, My Friend, Why Do You Insist On Hating Me?
CaliKat replied to hollirrose's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
A few days after surgery I discovered i had become lactose intollerent after 30+ years of successful milk drinking. Not being able to have milk was not an option for me..... So I tricked my body into going back to lactose tollerent by drinking milk 2x/ day for a week and dealing with the "fallout". It only took a week until i could have dairy w/o running for the restroom!! Now milk is no problem. -
When Did Your Stomach Stop Hurting
CaliKat replied to jaymzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes things sit well, sometimes they dont. The same cheese stick that went down like a dream yesterday can feel like an angry rock today. Even the "good" or "easy" foods can hurt on your worst days.... Its kinda a crap shoot for a while. But in the meantime, stick it out. It will get better.
