Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?
CaliKat replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
5 hrs post op update. I'm up and doing laps around the unit- have walked about 25 laps. Pain is minimal, the three things that are uncomfortable are: 1) Dry throat & mouth. I am allowed icechips and water to sip, but it's not enough. My Dr won't allow me to suck on SF cough drops 2) anesthesia gas pain. It is like a consistent dull ache. It's moved put of my back and into my r shoulder. 3) saggy stomach pulling on my incisions. It's not painful per se- just kinda uncomfortable. I have no problem getting water and ice chips down, although I am paranoid about taking tiny sips so I don't do anything to my new sleeve! I'm praying for a thumbs up on the leak test tomorrow so I can go home. Will do my best to keep on updating. Thanks for all the kind thoughts April sleevers -kat -
Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?
CaliKat replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hay Sleevers! Out of surgery and into my room- surgery went well but I had to wait an extra hour in pre-op for the room to be available and the waiting is the HARDEST part (so far). I'm feeling good, I did have to have a hernia repair, so surgery took longer than I thought. Kinda feeling restless, I can't wait to walk. So- I'm just chilling in my room sucking on icechips (godsend), enjoying Seinfeld re-runs and loving the drugs! -

Surgery scheduled for 1:30 today- hanging in the hospital and just waiting my turn! Super excited and a bit nervous- and a whole lot thirsty! Prayers to all my 4/4/12 sleeve buddies! -Kat -
Oh man... I am on day 3 of my liquid diet and my office window faces a cafe with an outdoor patio- I almost went ballistic when I saw the lunchtime goodies! My pre-op diet is pretty strict, only clear liquids- i.e. Isopure Fruit drinks, Water, sf popcicles, tea & broth. No Soups, bullion, dairy and not even Protein shakes! I have been sucking on SF cough drops and rationing my chewy Vitamins just so I can have flavor in my mouth- lol! Im nervous about surgery tomorrow, but at this point im starting to think that I prefer surgery over this hunger! To all those that have a LOOOOONG pre-op diet, I feel for you and wish you the best! -Kat

Mine was really easy- it was only an hour, but were getting buddy/buddy kinda got off topic a lot. I think its pretty short if your psychologist has done a lot of these evaluations, they know what to look for and can make a determination quickly. If not, they ask you every question in the book.

Cmullinvegas- Thank you so much for the details- I hope you feel better and you get some pain meds in. Good job on the sip-sip-sip! This is an emotional journey- hopefuly you have a friend or s/o you can emote with... there is NO shame in crying! -Kat

I plan on ordering a lot of Miso soup from the Japaneese grocery and adding lots of extra tofu! Protein packed! Also try endamame for a shot of protein and fiber. -

Help Me! I Still Have A Rash!
CaliKat replied to wabbitninja's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try Menthol Cortaid- it is a GEL and not a cream. I have horrible excema and the menthol Cortaid gel is the best thing ever! It may sting a bit if your rash sores are scratches open, but it works like a charm every time! Good luck and happy healing. -
Kaiser Richmond/kaiser South San Francisco Gastric Sleeve Brothers And Sisters!
CaliKat replied to chrissysodapop's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Congrats on your approval. I would try Dr. Cirangle at LapSF.com. He has offices in San Jose and his support groups (pre and post) are free to check out and he does all 4 procedures- bypass, band, Roux-y and Vsleeve. -
Wow- thanks for the detailed info! Makes me feel better on what to expect. The gurgles are freaking me out- im getting sleeved on Wednesday and going back to work on Tuesday and I work one-on-one with my clients in a quiet environment and am kinda nervous if I am going to be making all kinds of wacky noises and they will be all wierded out! Have you noticed one thing over another that gives you the gurgles more? Say clear broth vs. Protein Drinks or Water vs. tea? Cheers and congratulations on a successful sleeve! -Kat

My date is 4/4/12- but im in Bay Area too! Whats your surgery date and with who? Congrats on getting a date!!! -Kat -
Congrats on setting the date- the days seem to CRAWL by, especially when you read some of the posts by people that have been doing so well and have reached their goal weight (jealous! ) My Dr. is only having me do a 2 day clear liquid diet and no eating/drinking ANYTHING within 12 hrs of surgery. I think the 2 week diet is for people that may have inflamed livers- or even to jump start your way of thinking.... I dont know. My pre-op coordinator/physician assistant called me today (6 days before surgery) to give me diet instructions (before and after op) and go over whats going to happen on the day of surgery. Most likely, your PA will do the same. Congrats on taking matters into your own hands and schedulling your surgery- from one self pay to another, its going to be an investment thats worth it! -Kat

Pre-Op Cold Feet - Help! I'm Scared...
CaliKat replied to madambones's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yup- just got my date today (4/4/12) and I feel the same way- like I may be that .02% that dies during surgery (if thats the case, I should just go out and buy a lotto ticket right now! lol) Like Cookies said, I find the more I read and look at before/after pics- the better I feel. Also, I have been making a pinterest "vision" board of all the activities I want to try and clothes I think would look cute on my new body. Whenever I get nervous and my mind starts to swim, I log on and check out my "vision board" and it helps me remember why making a change is better than staying the same. -

Nerves Are Starting To Kick In
CaliKat replied to atkinsoncl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just paid!!!! Im a self-pay so there is some nervousness knowing I just gave a large chunk of savings away- but there is also relief that a good change is coming. I have a tennative date of April 19th- waiting for scheduling confirmation. Soooooo excited! I have been reading blogs and success stories every night before bed and then having dreams about being thin, healthy and not food obsessed. If I could do it tomorrow I would! I have to hold a brave face because my husband is soooooo scared for me and dont want to freak him out and I am not telling anyone else. That being said.... deep down inside I am kinda nervous about the surgery. Havent ever been in a hospital before- so its the unknown that is unsettling. I cant wait to hear how all the other April 2012 sleevers are doing!! -
ME TOO!!!! Im sooooo scared that this wont be enough to cure my food adiction and binge eating! However, I feel that a "jumpstart" is all I need to make the changes necessary to make it successful. i have had success with other "diets"- couldnt maintain.... But the binging was controllable when i Was loosing weight. Plus.... Its a mandatory diet after surgery so you dont have complications. My surgery date is still pending- but shooting for April 19.... If any of you have had the surgery before me and have found that the binging isnt a problem afterward.... i would love to hear!
