What's the 5 day pouch test?
-
I had a fill early this week and I think I may be real close to the green zone (yay!). My question is this: can anyone explain the physiology on why the band seems tighter in the morning than later in the day? I was watching out for this since I had read that caution from others. I'll have a cup of coffee and then I feel fine and can eat well the rest of the day. It's not bothersome nor does it hurt, I'm just wondering why this happens.

I use an unflavored protein mix (bought at gnc) and water with crystal light (tropical punch). It tastes like a smoothie. 125 calories, 24 grams of protein.

Surgery Date Is June 6!! Should I Tell Family??
corilinn14 replied to Lapband Maggie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded this feb and to this day only my mom knows. People can tell I'm losing weight, but they also see the better food choices I'm making and that I talk about going to the gym. Part of me feels silly for keeping this secret, but I am a very private person. This is only a tool (like exercising and eating right) and not a magic bullet. Lots of people just don't get that. In the end it's your call... I can see why you want to, but I totally understand why you think you shouldn't. Just know that if your family isn't ready to deal with their weight issues, they may feel this is a judgment on them. I know it isn't and so do you, but I know how my friends and family reacted when I said I was thinking about having wls. My prayer is that you come to a decision that is right for you. Good luck! -
Feeling The Crave To Actually Chew Something!
corilinn14 replied to ShazamLOL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No! chicken is good for you! But take small bites (dime to nickel size) and chew until you get tired of chewing and then chew some more. And eat slow. I have not had trouble with bread (yet), but I am not in the green zone yet. And if no one has told (warned) you, restriction does not happen right after surgery. It usually takes a few fills to get green (I've had 4 fills, hoping #5 is the trick). You're about to enter bandster hell, prepare yourself. You'll question if you did the right thing, you'll think you're the only one whose had these problems, you may even gain some weight back. Most of us have been there, so don't let it get you down. Good luck! -
First Fill Scheduled Thursday... Does It Hurt? How Does If Feel? Advice?
corilinn14 replied to Carolinacrumb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just know that one fill usually doesn't put you in the green zone... It takes time (and usually a few fills) to get the right restriction. No one warned me about this part, but know that it doesn't happen over night (even though I thought it would). -
I was banded early February and lost 10 pounds right away. After I came off the liquid diet, my weight loss slowed. As I learned quickly, the band does not provide immediate restriction. I've had 4 fills and have 7cc's in a 14cc band. I'm still not in the green zone, so this is more like a diet until I hit the zone. Just have honest conversations with your doctor and let him/her know when you're hungry. I've read stories on here that since people are dieting well, their doctors can want to not fill. (my pa was really upset last time I told her that I was eating more than a cup, but I told her it was the truth and I wasn't going to sabotage getting to green) I've learned this takes longer than we may want, but I know it will be worth it! Good luck!

So I woke up with a sore throat and a cold this morning. I'm a little scared at the possibility that I might have to throw up if I get a sour stomach. Any advice on the dos and don'ts of throwing up with a band?

2 Days Post Op And Starving!
corilinn14 replied to jesscaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you sure you're really hungry? I've learned on this journey that the stomach growling doesn't necessarily mean you're hungry. Your body starts talking to you in a whole new way :-/ Good luck! You're gonna do great! -

So I just had my 3rd fill this morning and the pa who did it made a comment that caused me some confusion. She said that the band will never help me feel totally full, but I needed to use it as a tool. wth??? I thought it was supposed to help me feel full with 1/2c - 1c of food. Do you guys who are in the green zone feel satisfied/full? Did I just misunderstand her? She told me I needed to train myself to feel full with that amount of food. If I wanted to do that, I would have just gone on a diet. Please let me know if I totally misunderstood her or all the research I did before I got the band.

I think the biggest thing about today is that she spoke to me as if I was a child. I was being honest and I felt as if she judged me. I've learned from you guys what the possibilities are with this band and I'm ready to get there (all in due time). But I've also learned that I won't get there if I'm not honest with the people doing my fills. Thanks for educating me, guys and gals. You've empowered me!

How Do You Deal With Negative Feedback From Family, friends, coworkers About Being Banded?

People talk crap about you when you're big, they'll talk about you when you're skinny. The people who care about you won't ever. At least you know who they are now. -
I currently have 6 cc's in a 14cc band and I feel little to no restriction. I am fairly optimistic that my fill on Monday may do the trick. I've read lots of notes on here that it may take 4-5 fills to do the trick (my pa confirmed this). Hang in there!

Try Zumba! I've never been an exercise fan, but this is something I really enjoy!

I recommend laughing cow cheese wedges with thin triscuits. One wedge and 7 crackers is less than 100 calories. My fave flavors are garlic and herb, chipotle and the tomato basil.

It's an app on smartphones (there is also a website). It's keeps track of the calories you take in every day. Helps you to realize what you're actually putting in your body. A real eye-opener! I highly recommend. Friend me... Corilinn is my username...

So the hair place I go to has two different capes. Normal sized people get the black ones. People like me get the gray ones. I want a black one!!!

I was banded feb 9th and have had one fill... I get #2 tomorrow. I too can eat more that I'd like (much less than I use to, though), but the pa told me it could take up to 6 fills to get into the green zone. Don't be discouraged! I look at it as an opportunity to get adjusted to this new life in "baby steps"! In the past few weeks, I've gotten great at eating slower and smaller bites... Something I struggled with pre-band. Good luck!

If you want to count calories, I recommend my fitness pal. I swore I'd never be a calorie counter, but now I'm very conscientious about it. It makes you accountable to yourself and allows you to realize what you are putting in your body. Stuff everyone always told me, I just had to be ready for it. If you join, my username is corilinn. Friend me, I'd be more than happy to cheer for you!
