  1. So I had surgery on Halloween '13. I suffered severe back pain in the hospital that spanned across the base of my left shoulder blade to the right shoulder blade base. This eventually was relieved shortly as I was able to walk. I suffered also from intense abdominal pain, for which everyone said was normal. My pain did let up eventually as I am 11 days post op. My pain in my abdomen is lessened by Tylenol and a stomach binding, just bought today. Unfortunately my back is getting worse. About 5 days ago, I was experiencing back pain in the small area of my back, but towards my left side. I attribute it to stay in the same position for so long, it actually caused back strain. I still believe this is the fact. But today when I woke up, I can barely walk without severe pain!! I cannot bend of due to abdominal pain from surgery, and straightening up causes me to almost collapse from pain. I am seeing my GP tomorrow, and my surgeon on the 18th. I have never heard or read if this happening to anyone. The only position that doesn't hurt my back is to sit in a reclined position. What are your thoughts?
  2. Btw I am RNY but I have followed this journey with everyone for the last year, so I feel attached to ya somehow. I was a sleeved until my doctor highly recommended bypass for me.
  3. I am 15 days post op, and so far have lost 21lbs. I never realized how hard it is to force yourself to eat.

    Help Me Asap!

So it turned out that the food I ate was causing the vomiting. The doctor Gave me some iv antiemetics in the ER. ONCE I purged my stomach completely, I was instantly fine. The doctors concern is that my stoma was blocked, but he assured me that if in a few more hours if it had not gotten better, he would get an endoscopy. He says he sees this all the time. After 7 hours, I was finally relieved. My endoscopy in the end showed nothing but a stomach lining irritation. So I was told.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

So I have been posting on the general forum since surgery (Halloween) about being in severe pain. So tonight I went to the emergency and it turns out my pain is not surgically related. I have swollen infected kidneys. This is the source of my pain. So I am on antibiotics and am soo looking forward to not being in pain. Feeling so painfully happy right now. So far down 15lbs since Halloween and 65 overall. Yay!!

    BC Sleevers

I think false creek medical centre does. Forget the full name of the place.
  10. SO this is really hard to fathom, I always knew pre op that weight would be coming off fast in the initial period, but I didn't really think it would happen to me. My surgery was last thursday and in 2 days I lost 7 pounds. I understand the mechanics behind this, but wow!!! This is a little surreal!

Things I will NOT miss about being fat.

One other thing. 2 words! Granny panties!! Need I say more!

Things I will NOT miss about being fat.

All are true for me, I have a few to add - saying clothes are too big when I am returning too small items - having to suck in my fat whenever I meet people - the thought of myself as being "well, at least you have pretty eyes" - actually only taking up half of a queen size bed, instead of more. Poor hubby. - not being able to have a towel wrapped around me, unless it's a beach towel - not grabbing the nearest pillow in a couch at a family's house to cover my belly - pretending to not be hungry when I am starving - being afraid of eating in front of anyone - not having strangers tell me I shouldn't eat something because I am fat - not looking in a mirror and hating everything I see - not breaking chairs when I sit in them - not being the fattest one in the family - my fatness being a family gossip - not having my nephew sit on my lap, and actually have room to sit - not asking myself every time I put something on "does this make me look fat" - not buying shirts simply because they cover my hips - not being able to buy a Halloween costume - my legs. It falling asleep on the toilet - not having a bath, because I don't fit in the tub - not having people look at me like I grew 2 heads when I say I have decent cardiovascular endurance. - not being able to live because I stop myself before I can actually enjoy things in life - which leads me to my last one ; not being a hermit in my house.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

That is exactly what I have to do too!
  14. O my surgery was Oct 31, and I am currently on full fluids. My dietician considers cottage cheese a full fluid. So I am able to eat on average 1/3c of foods, including cottage cheese. This seems like so much. Is it possible that I am eating to much, and my nerves are not responding to being full, and I am over-eating?
  15. I am curious. How long after your surgery did you have a bowel movement?
  16. AutumnPunkin

    Any October surgeries out there...

I hear ya. My recent cravings are: 1. Cheezies (pre op I never ate then haha) 2. Salmon with cocktail sauce 3. Shrimp with cocktail sauce 4. Egg salad on triscuits. Ok so I my the cheezies are the horrid ones. The big one I am craving right now is salmon. I want it so bad!!! As soon as I can have purées, salmon here I come. (It is allowed for me in that stage, just have to chew well.

    100+ To Loose

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I just tried unjury unflavored protein mixed with soups. I hate sweet, but like the savory. So for a cup of Lipton chicken soup broth- low sodium I added a half of a scoop to the soup. You cannot taste the protein so it is just chicken broth. Also last night I added half of a scoop to a half of a cup of vegetable soup broth ( I am only on fluids right now) Just a caution. Only add your protein to liquids below 140 degrees F. Anything hotter will denature the protein and will be super yucky!!
  22. Need to know everything will be ok. I feel so medically unsupported. I just had surgery on Halloween and was discharged yesterday. So the day of surgery, I was fine, day 2 to now I am in so much pain. So day 2 I was unable to get out if bed. Every time I tried, I was in such excruciating pain that O was near passing out. Day 3, I was finally able to move, and my pain was under control for the first time. At rest pain was about a 4 and while walking it was about a 5-7. Definitely something to manage. In day 2 onwards they suspected that I had a leak. But they never looked into it. I do not hurt in any of the incisions, in fact away from my drain has zero pain. But to the left of where my drain was is to sore. I cannot handle any pressure on the area as it sends me into instant 9/10 pain. So day 3 I was discharged. At this time I was barely moving, barely eating or drinking and barely in control of my pain. So now I am at home, and was given no pain medications. I was told to take Tylenol (no dose was recommended), and Advil! WTF!! Since when are we supposed to take Advil. Just before discharge, they realized that I had low potassium. So I was told that if I swallowed the 1" pulls it would cause my anastomoses between my pouch and small bowel could burst, so they would give me a liquid form. So when the nurse comes in, she gives me two huge pills to take. I had to argue with the nurse about whether I could take them! My entire stay has been one disaster after another, and felt I may get injured by the staff if I stayed! I am in so much pain and just wanted to reach out to people who understand what I am going through. My husband is being amazing!! Please tell me I am going to be ok! I am sorry to be such a downer! ???? but thank you for letting me get out my whine ❤️
  23. Wanted to update everyone! So I went to my doctor today and got a script for Tylenol with codeine and caffeine. I am taking 2 every 4 hours, and he said I could take a single regular Tylenol if needed every 2 hours. I finally have my pain under control. I did start out with a children's liquid (30mL), to give a rush to the pain management, then took 2 t3's. This last me usually around 3.5 hours when I take 2 more T3's. I am able to finally walk around my house, if even for 5-10minutes multiple times a day. I am also able to eat. I am only up to 300 calories and everything is really fortified. I am getting in 2-3 c of Protein liquids and 2-3c of Water for the day. Which is exactly on track with what my nutritionist wants for this stage. It is amazing, my pain is down to a 3-4 when walking, and I only walk after my pain meds have kicked in. At rest I am a 2-3 for pain. 2 most of the time and a 3 near the end of my meds. I am better today. I still have a shearing ripping burning pain on my side, but right now my doctor wants to just watch it. I have a follow-up appointment in a week to re-examine my wounds, and if it gets worse he told me To go to emerge. Thank you so much for the support, I expected pain, but not this much, and it was so helpful to hear from people who have already gone trough the pain and emotions associate with this surgery. ???? hugs

How did you pick your "starting weight"?

I used the weight of when I started my journey to lose seriously. For me that was 333lbs when I started eating smart back in May. Now I weigh 283lbs, and surgery is thursday. I only lost 6.5lbs on my pre-op. So my surgery weight will be around 281-282 lbs.
