4 days out update. snoho1-I am trying to figure out if there is a pattern with the gurgles, but I seem to have it with everything. My carafate medicine, Vitamins, Water, Protein drinks, and the Soup I get to "eat". Some noises are louder than others, it hurts for a second and then I feel better after I gurgle. The gurgle does make me slow down. The gas pain is completely gone. Sometimes my incisions hurt just a tad. I do have a pain under my left breast though. It feels like I ran too much and need a break. I didn't take any pain meds today though sometimes I feel a little nauseas and did take my nausea medicine yesterday. daniellec-I am working on my plan. I am a teacher and right now I am on spring break, when I return to work next week I will be much more rigorous with my schedule. I am trying to figure out how to eat, stopping a half hour before and an hour and a half later, getting in all my vitamins, drinking 90-100 grams of protein, and 64 ounces of liquid. My first protein drink after surgery took two sips to fill me. I burped so I thought that was the singnal. My nutritionist said to sip protein, water, and repeat. Yet, I could barely get in 20 grams of protein and half my fluids. I read from a post on this blog I can drink 2-4oz every hour three days after surgery. 3 days to 3 weeks after surgery I can drink 4-6oz every hour. It is impossible to drink this slowly to get in all my protein and fluids. My nut said, "Everyone is different on this one. I want you sip on 4 ounces of Fluid every 30 minutes. If it's too fast then switch to every 45 minutes. Try sipping on 4 ounces of fluid (whether it be Protein Shake or water) until it's gone. What we don't want to happen is sip wait 10 minutes, sip wait 15 minutes etc. We don't want to "nurse" on the fluid. We want to sip sip sip until it' gone." I guess I was nursing the fluid and can speed up my intake. I'm just paranoid I am going to mess up my sleeve! Two things I didn't realize that I would like to share. Getting myself up was really difficult the first few days. Today it's been much easier. When I want to get up from sitting on the toilet, couch, or lying in bed, it takes a ton of effort. If a friend helps me, it's much easier;however, like I said today was the first day I can feel a huge difference. The other thing that's hard is deep breathing. I do have some breathing exercises to do daily because of this.

To Tell Or Not To Tell?
Cmullinvegas replied to gettinthinner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm struggling with this as well. Windy city mom and vance have made some good points. It is perfectly acceptable to say, your surgery is private. Originally, I only told 3 friends who had cosmetic surgery previously. That plan has changed because I have already delt with some busy bodies as well. I am a teacher and told my business manager I needed to take sick days for surgery. I didn't say what surgery but she told atleast 3 people. I didn't even tell some of my closest friends but they knew something was going on, so I ended up telling 3 more. I was stunned by the support, one friend is a stick and has never delt with weight problems, we eat lunch together and she has seen and heard my struggles. She told me surgery is gutsy, but her sister-in-law did it too. Another friend researched my surgery and was asking about my protein. To clarify, telling or not is your choice, I mean who doesn't lose weight on a liquid diet, but you might be pleasantly surprised by sharing. -

Hormone Grehlin Also Responsible For Memory?
Cmullinvegas replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was talking to a friend who had lap-band 4 years ago in Tijuana performed by Dr. Ortiz. She said one side effect is "the stupids". These posts are specifically talking about memory. Our brains don't function correctly without proper nutrition. I don't think ghrelin is related to memory, but not getting property nutrition is related. What Is Your Acid Reducer Of Choice?
Cmullinvegas replied to 2bfit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on carafate. The bottle says not to take with an antacid, but if it works for you or doctor recommended I understand why you take it simultaneously. I'm 3 days out and prior to surgery never had acid reflex, but is this what the gurgles are? -
My plans are to be nice to my sleeve. I'm trying to get in liquids, medicine, and vitamins but it's not easy. A friend came over and walked me in the a.m. Another friend is on her way to walk me, she's bringing her husband to help around my place. He is an EMT so he will change my bloody bandages too. Very exciting, but it's time to put me first! Enjoy the weather chacha

I just had surgery today. I got in 3 oz of water and 2 oz of my protein drink. I have been drinking slowly for about the last 7 hours. I took almost half my prescribed meds and got in a multivitamin. I have a hot compress on my chest for gas. I've been getting up to walk. Now I have the gurgles in my chest area and peed a ton of green, like leprechaun green. Did I over due it? Why am I gugling, it's been like an hour of the gurgles.

Milk Or Water With Protein Skakes
Cmullinvegas replied to Cmullinvegas's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Okay, I mixed milk and water. Had two small, slow sips and burped so I guess that means I'm full. -
Thanks amanda 3.0 I'm glad I don't need the full dose of lortab since I'm not in a huge amount of pain. I do need all of carafare, it tastes better and I'll just do 5 ml at a time. I'm just worried I messed up my sleeve puking so quickly!

I Set A Date. Omg!
Cmullinvegas replied to BridalMama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I got my pre-op consultation with the coordinator, she told me 2 days of liquids, plus a laxative and an enema. -
Almillsips, I just had surgery this morning. I was at a surgical center so I was sent home. i felt nauseated So I got some meds for that. I also have a nausea med patch behind my ear for 3 days. I felt like I was going to regurgitate, but didn't. I wasn't in too much pain from the incisions, but the gas still hurts which I'm actually grateful for at 8 hours post-op. When I got home I took my pain meds, lortab and planned on carafate. I'm allowed 15 ml of lortab. i took it super slow, it tasted so grow. I got down about 9 ml and stopped, I felt nauseas again and had a barf like experience. nothing came up, but my body did the motion and I felt a little better afterwards. I didn't take any more meds at that time. I took 5ml of carafate about an hour ago and 7 ml of lortab just now. I had no idea I wouldn't be able to hold the entire med dose. I didn't drink Water with it since I can't I guess, even though it tasted gross. I hope I didn't mess my sleeve up already, but I could have "regurgitated-ish" from the nasty taste or nausea. Does/did anyone else have trouble taking entire dose of med at once?

Pre-Op Diet Started Today Help
Cmullinvegas replied to Lauranbob Mc's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I read in a clear liquid diet you can have juices with no pulp like apple or cranberry. Coffee is okay, but no milk or creamer. I read this on the mayo clinic website. I'm doing 2 days of A clear liquid diet pre-op, I guess that doesn't include protein shakes for me right now. -
Last doc appointment is my psych eval. Seems like a long process. Anything I should or should not say? What's this process like?

Where to get protein foods and samples
Cmullinvegas replied to MacMadame's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
3 for $3 http://www.gotein.com/sample_pack.html This women did all the work! Some sights are old and don't work. I ordered another sample pack for $3.99 and contacted many sights to send free samples. http://wasabubblebutt.blogspot.com/2010/03/protein-samples-where-to-get.html
