After doing the "no sugar added/sugarless" thing (I am still pre-op) I didn't really think it mattered if I had one little teaspoon of Rocky Road Ice Cream. Well, last night, I decided to give it a try. Whoa! It was soooo sweet, I literally felt sick and spit it out.

Help! Does Anyone Actually Plan Meals?
joyful noise replied to DeterminedGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went shopping for things like Protein to see what I liked. I made a list of foods I really like and made a shopping list. Then I came home and took a calendar, one day at a time, and put my foods on the calendar. Since I am not the only one cooking, it helps whoever is cooking, to get things ready the night before. I did use the nut's advice about how many servings of protein, dairy, etc. when making shopping list. Since I hate milk, I opted for plain non-fat greek yogurt and added my own fresh fruit. -
What Were You Doing On This Day 11 Years Ago?

I was at work, on the phone, making an appointment to have my 16 year old dog euthanized. Too many lives lost that day. -

What Was Your Check Off List?
joyful noise replied to AJPeezy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I attended the introductory meeting all about WLS. I then attended 2 support meetings. Went to nut classes, had my psych evaluation, got my clearance from my PCP. Got an approval, then met with surgeon, got clearances from Nephrologist, today got my clearance from the Pulmonary Dr. and on the 17th, I go for my stress test, for clearance. I did have my blood work done - no H Pylori, a chest x-ray and an EKG. I think they will again do blood work before the surgery. When I get the last clearance, I will meet again with surgeon to set date, have to attend a 3 hour class (what it is, I have no idea) and hopefully that is it until after the surgery. Lots to do... -
Dietitian Counseling

Being lactose intolerant, I bought the calcium supplements right away. I haven't bought anything else yet. I will when I get my "date". -
Cigna required 6 nut classes (Now changed to 3). I wasn't told to lose anything. The surgeon wanted me to lose about 25 pounds pre-surgery.

I was born and raised in JC. Went to Snyder and St. Peter's college. My husband was also from JC and went to Snyder. We lived in Bayonne for a year and a half. We moved to Hazlet after we married. Then, onto Florida here. I miss JC and shopping downtown Bayonne. -
Scared Can't Stop Cleaning
joyful noise replied to ljperez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it is time to take care of you. I haven't gotten to "cleaning" yet, but I have made some meals and froze them to hold them over and am teaching my oldest daughter to cook. She never wanted to learn before. Other than cleaning out the refrigerator for last minute no-no's, I am not going to do more than dust. I went to the Farmer's Market and did some canning over the weekend. I usually do my canning just before the holidays; I just want to take time for me. I have no intention of going shopping until I feel comfortable. They can fend for themselves. -
I've been using a CPAP for 5 years now. Last year the old one died. It was like the white noise mentioned above. My new machine is really quiet. I, too, do not know what I would do without it, yet I am expecting to someday not need it, after the surgery and I lose serious weight.

The nurse at the surgeon's office recommended almond milk (I have lactose intolerance). I had never heard of it. I bought a gallon and loved it so much, I tracked down a recipe online to make my own. My whole family drinks it now.

So Sad I Cannot Breathe
joyful noise replied to Fun size's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please do not wait to get your daughter help. I took my friend, S, to Disney one afternoon. She totally freaked out ( screaming and cursing at the ride attendants ) and worked herself up into a full mode panic attack. I got her home and called her Mom, who was in total denial. I called our pastor and he had her hospitalized. She cried and her Mom got her released. She also was an RN. She was taking drugs from the hospital medical cabinet. 2 months later, our pastor did a memorial service for her. It could all have been avoided. -
Since you are self-pay, check on the hospital costs. My surgeon charges 5,500 for the surgery, but the hospital charges 14,000. I am glad I have ins, but my co-pay is going to be high. I sold my car to get the rest of the money I needed. it is the tiniest bit inconvenient, but not bad being a one-car household.

The first letter from Cigna did not say I was denied, but that something was missing from stuff submitted. I called the surgeon's office and the coordinator told me that was standard procedure; more like an automated letter. When I did get a letter of approval, it said for Sept.21. Again, I called the office and she said they have to give Cigna a ball park figure of when it will be done. Since I have to see a Pulmonologist (tomorrow) and the Cardiologist on the 17th, only God knows when my surgery will be. Since they only do sleeves on Fridays, and my surgeon teaches the procedures world wide...I am in limbo right now. I was getting upset and decided it is "in His time" (God's) and am keeping busy to not think about it. I am praying for your approval. The surgeon's office usually handles the rejections to get them approved. So, don't worry.

I asked my surgeon if somewhere down the road (I didn't give a time frame) if I could have Bulgogi (Barbeque beef) and his answer was "maybe". Since he is Korean, I thought he'd know when and "maybe" was his answer. I HATE maybe, say yes or no. I love Korean food.

Questions For First Consult! Ideas?

Yogurt has alot of protein in it. Diet jello has protein. I am using body fortress chocolate whey, if you use 2 scoops, you get 52 g protein. I make mine with almond milk (much more protein that reg. milk). It does has a lot of carbs, though. I only use a half scoop, because I like to eat my protein rather than drink it. I am sure that will change post-surgery.
