From Lapband To Sleeve...elaborating...

Congratulations on your sleeve!! -
Congratulations.!! I'm a little over half and 6months on 5/21/12.

I would say laparoscopic Any surgery done open has more risk of blood clots, bleeding and definitely longer recovery time. I would say find a very experience surgeon that has done at least 1000 of the sleeve surgeries laparoscopic and go from there. A leak can occur because of the staple gun misfiring and that can happen either way. Good luck and God bless!

Seminar And Looooong Wait Times
Lisa's Hope commented on TwinsMama's blog entry in Learning to be a Type A-
I had NO clue I would have to take shots after my surgery either until the surgery was done!! I got home and they called in my meds and I was told I had to give myself injections of blood thinners everyday. The first time was awkward. It really didn't hurt though. The needles are so small and they are prefilled syringes. You will be fine. It is a small price to pay for the benefits!! -
I had my sleeve surgery on May 21st of this year. On the 21st of this month I will be 6 months out. I've lost 82 pounds to date. I didn't want to go with the band because I didn't want to be vomiting all the time. I know to many people that had been through it and so I elected to go with the sleeve. I didn't want my intestines rerouted either as they do with gastric bypass. I know for me, it was the best decision. The sleeve I think is 8 years old and I've not heard anyone say they had problems further out. I have heard of complications in the beginning which can be really bad but as with any surgery that can happen. I know its new but to me it was the best surgery out of the three. I did see a post for a lady that is 3 years out and she hasn't gained back one pound. She seemed to be happy. I hope and pray that the longer we go the safer it is. I don't think the sleeve can be stretched like the gastric pouch and is much safer. Good luck to you on what ever you choose to do. I would think that this would be so much better for you because you would be able to eat and not be vomiting all of the time.

Surgery In 1 Week..will I Regret This?
Lisa's Hope replied to jenjen82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I felt exactly as you do before my surgery. I thought about cancelling it but then realized that I have come too far and even though my insurance wouldn't pay and I was a self pay, I decided to go through with it. I had tried since I was 8 to lose weight and keep it off. I would lose and gain it right back. I knew I couldn't do this on my own. I just prayed to the good Lord and asked that his will be done and I wasn't even scared the morning of surgery. I knew there were serious risks but I also knew that I couldn't live like I was any longer. I was borderline diabetic and was on 2 BP medications. I had my thyroid ablated and was on Synthroid as well. The first night after surgery was rough. The weeks to follow at home were also rough for me. I had pain and stomach spasms. I started feeling myself maybe 2 1/2 months after surgery. I did regret it in the beginning but today I know it all was so worth it!! Some people don't have any problems at all. You may be one of them. Still, I feel so blessed to have had this surgery even if I had to pay for it. You will be fine!! You will be so glad you did this! Maybe not at first but later you will be. God Bless! -

Praying for you!! You are so brave and I know things will be just fine for you. My best friend has a daughter who had to have a heart transplant. She was born without the left side of her heart and she lived with her old heart until 4 years ago. She is now 21 and doing fabulous!! Please keep us posted and I will definitely add you as a friend. God bless! -
I had a two week preop diet. Nothing but protein shakes. No food. I had to shrink my liver as well because I had fatty liver disease at the time. The preop diet was soooooo hard!!!! I did make it though and everything was fine. I only lost 15 pounds in two weeks drinking nothing but shakes.
