Omg All Booked And Ready To Go... Why Am I Freaking Out.
ShapeShifter replied to mkardh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm pre-op, but I've read of people back after 4 days. I've been told that my surgeon recommends two weeks. I have a very supportive boss, who says: "This is about your health - you will take as much time as you need!" I am uninformed on leaks... though I'm guessing that the period of time between surgery and being cleared for whole foods (not mushies) would be an indicator. -
Pain - What Could This Be?
ShapeShifter replied to Pookeyism's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you constipated, perhaps? Have you tried taking a laxative? This is just a guess based on location of discomfort. Wishing you WELL! -
Anesthesia can have surprising, lasting effects. I'm sure this is only temporary. I had nasal surgery over a year ago, and had issues with sleep. When I did sleep, I had night terrors. They stopped after a few weeks.

holyclothing.com has beautiful plus size dresses, if you are not seeking something traditional. Congratulations on your pending nuptials.

Finally Registered To Vst!

I've read about people being back to a sedentary job in 4 days... but my surgeon (I am pre-op) recommends two weeks. All the best on your journey! -
Cotton Mouth And Snoring
ShapeShifter commented on mrsteacher's blog entry in Sleeved by Dr. Kelly in Mexico
I remember having dry mouth after my nasal surgery, just as you describe. I can't recall how long it lasted, but anesthesia can really have some long-lasting effects. I had violent nightmares, as well. More water is always a good thing. Sounds like your weight loss is reducing some obstructive tissue. Congratulations! I would suffocate without my cpap machine. Getting rid of sleep apnea is one of my greatest hopes after surgery. -
So excited for you!! Have a safe and wonderful 'journey'.

Could it be your gall bladder? I've heard the pain radiates through your back. Wishing you WELL, dear.

The Magic Bullet is perfect for such a situation! It is half the price on Amazon.com, as I've seen it in the stores. Love mine. -
Can't Stop Eating
ShapeShifter replied to kristine34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So heartbroken for your loss, Kristine34. Surrounding you with love and light and knowing that all shall be WELL with you. Warrior offers great advice. Treat yourself with kindness and forgiveness. Your heart suffers, and you carry a difficult burden. But you are also a powerful survivor, and you will do what is best for you... so that you can be there for 'them'. Is there something with protein that you can keep on hand that might be snack-like? Turkey Jerky, sliced grilled chicken, low-fat string cheese, almonds, etc. Can you take a drink of flavored water when you think of taking a bite of something that isn't the best choice? Can you set a timer on your cell phone that reminds you to take your vitamins? Sometimes setting small, actionable steps helps us move forward, when 'doing-it-all' seems overwhelming. {{{YOU}}} -
You can add magnesium to your daily vitamins, too.

Check with the universities in your area... the one near me offers free counseling with psych majors, as part of their educational requirement. You do need to beat the alcohol habit, and ensure that what you take into your body is worthy of feeding the goddess in your temple. You deserve to be treated well... especially by you!

So I Had A Bezoar? Anybody Know About These
ShapeShifter replied to SpaceyCasey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow... I thought that was a fictional thing from Harry Potter. Hoping you never have to experience that again! -
I am pre-op, but I'm sorry for your struggle. I've read of people re-setting their sleeve. Can you consider talking to a psychologist about your food issues? I was inspired by AmySDMom on Youtube... she has lots of good eating ideas, and does a yogurt fast for a couple of days and loses several pounds. Wishing you all the best... I know you can find your way back.

I have no idea how it works. It does seem to know when you are walking stairs or elevation, but it is not right against your skin, necessarily, so I don't know how it would determine temperature. You do log your data into the fitbit website, so perhaps it considers that you've burned more calories than someone at a lower weight. I'm happy to let it be a mystery.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks. It's very cool. Not only does it track your movement and download it via wifi, but it tracks your sleep. Fascinating. You turn on the 'stop watch' when you go to bed and turn it off when you get up... when it downloads, it tells you how long it took to fall asleep, how many times you woke up and how long you were asleep. I don't know how, but it is so cool. It synchs up with myfitnesspal.com, so you can log in your food each day, and it will tell you if you've moved enough to earn more calories. You can 'friend' people, and help motivate each other. I'm still getting used to it, so I've not done the friend thing yet, so I don't know how that works. Enjoy!

Week 18- Exhaustion Is Finally Kicking In
ShapeShifter commented on blackanese25's blog entry in blackanese25's Blog
Remember that your body also needs rest, so if you are tired... consider if you are getting enough sleep, which is required for cell rejuvenation. Also, are you keeping up with your water? Dehydration can cause fatigue. All the best... -
PdxMan is right... also, take your measurements. Sometimes you may be losing inches even when the scale doesn't move. Stop watching the scale!

I get a catalog called foot solutions, and oddly enough, it has a section that offers different kinds of back support, to help keep your shoulders pulled back and chest lifted. Perhaps you can buy some support to help while you rebuild your core muscles.

I've been told that many people become lactose intolerant after surgery, though often only temporary. Wishing you WELL, dear. -
Top 3 Tips For Success
ShapeShifter replied to VSG Barry's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am pre-op, and have started to practice some of the things that will come post-op. I bought a fitbit, which is a fancy digital pedometer that downloads my daily movement to the computer when I get home (it motivates me and says nice things - I picked it up this weekend and it said: "You Rock Mellie" - Ha!). It synchs with myfitnesspal.com, where I also log in my daily food intake. I'm following a 1600 calorie eating plan and have added Isopure protien shakes to my day to up my Protein intake, which was rather low before I realized the importance. I've done WW for 25 years, so water-water-Water is already a part of my daily regimen. I'm trying to remember to take my Vitamins and supplements every day. I currently manage 3-4 days a week, and that is not acceptable! Next on my list is to take a refresher course in something like crochet, so that I will have something to do with my hands while I watch tv at night, rather than snacking when not hungry. I'm not very good at puzzles, so I figured I'd avoid frustrating myself. Wishing you all the best on your exciting adventure! -

Weird Rash Around Mouth
ShapeShifter replied to LeeLeeLosing's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what is causing that, and I am pre-op, so no experience. But I do know that the amino acid L-Lysine helps to heal fever blisters - you can find it with the Vitamins at the grocery. It usually comes in a large tablet, though... so you may need to crush it. That said, you need to get your Water and Protein, young lady! Wishing you WELL! -
One Week Out Update And Questions
ShapeShifter replied to WhoozisAnyway's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So happy that you are recovering so well. A friend of mine (non-surgery) uses Hemp protein... but I don't think it is as high in grams per serving as IsoPure. Are you able to place orders on line, because there are services through Amazon.com and netrition.com has lots of protein options (though mostly whey) with soy and hemp, I believe. Good luck! -
I am pre-surgery, so not experienced... but I've read that hormones are stored in our fat cells and as we shed the fat, the hormones are released. Think 'post-pardum depression'... it is hormonal, right? (hmmm... that also follows having something removed from your body...) It is only temporary. Anyway, I wonder if surgeons prescribe short-term meds for depression. Also, I had my psych evaluation yesterday, and the psychiatrist told me to warn anyone who will be caring for me after surgery... that everyone regrets what they've done immediately afterwards... but it does get better. Since she was a bariatric patient 9 years ago... I'm choosing to believe her. ; ) Wishing you comfort and a return to the joy that awaits you...
