I didn't have any changes that I've noticed. I can still tolerate my shakes, etc. I did find that beef broth was far more flavorful and satisfying than chicken broth. I've read that you can experiment with temperatures and that your sleeve may enjoy warm beverages, like decaf tea and broth, over cold ones, or room temperature. I have found that a decaf warm chai with almond milk goes down so smoothly that I can get in a whole 10-12 oz. I'm 11 days out. Wishing you WELL, and hoping you find what works for you!

Sleeve Or Lap Band? How Do I Decide Which Is Best For Me?
ShapeShifter replied to kflan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do a search here for band to sleeve revisions. It may help educate your decision, with words of experience. Best of luck with journey! -
theworldaccordingtoeggface.com has great ideas for bariatric eating. Best to avoid the carbs while in the losing phase. I've read that keeping your carbs at 40 grams or below is best for losing... also protein first, then veg, then fruit... then you shouldn't have room for the stuff that stalls your loss. Good luck!

When Did You Move From All Clear To Full Liquid?
ShapeShifter replied to gingersnap's topic in Food and Nutrition
Surgery day being day zero, my surgeon recommended full liquids (protein shakes with milk, etc.) on day 2. Mushies on day 8. All the best on your journey. -
Body Aches And Constipation
ShapeShifter replied to SLEEVEDNBEAUTIFUL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another thought is to replace electrolytes. If you are flushing too much salt from your body, and sf gatorade once a day may help. Feel better! -
I agree... going back to the beginning makes sense. If you have issues with carbs, remove them. Detox your system by returning to very start. Liquids, then mushies, then soft foods... protein first, then veggies, then fruits. If you make the right choices, you shouldn't have room for the triggers and fat-producers. Drink at least 80 ounces of water per day. Take a 30 minute walk, minimum. You can do this! You already did!

Go to 'theworldaccordingtoeggface.com' and search purees or mushies. I'm three days into mushies and doing great with ff refried beans with salsa and cheddar. It is a trick to not overeat, let me tell you. If you do, you spend the next hour keeping your mushies in your tummy, as they creep into your throat. Yuck.

Also, if you have to weigh every day... do it once first thing in the morning after you go to the bathroom. You will make yourself crazy over normal bodily changes throughout the day.

My full liquids phase was just Protein shakes and sugar free liquids... Water and broth, sf popsicles. Mashed potatoes are all carbs, I wouldn't have those until I reached goal. Did you get a guidebook on eating from your surgeon? Mine provided a day by day breakdown on what to consume. You can get tips on what to eat when you get to the mushee/puree stage from a great blog called 'theworldaccordingtoeggface.com". she also offers recipes for smoothies. Good luck!

Body Aches And Constipation
ShapeShifter replied to SLEEVEDNBEAUTIFUL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you drinking enough water? High protein diet will cause constipation, and your body is detoxing from sugar and carbs, so water will be your best friend to help flush toxins and get things moving. Try adding miralax or magnesium to your regimen to stay regular. This, too, shall pass. Also, for body aches, you can take a hot bath in epson salt. Feel better and all the best on your new beginning! -
So much comfort and joy in your future. Excited for you!

Nauseous On Pre-Op Diet?
ShapeShifter replied to MissVVJJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Long ago, I tried herbalife shakes for weight loss (didn't work), but I recall feeling nauseous, on those. I think it was from consuming so much milk in a day. I wonder if you could try almond milk with your protein powder to see if it makes a difference. I'm on day 5 of liquids, and I have cut back on my milk, prefering to get it in yogurt form, and using more almond milk in my shakes. Good luck! -
I prefer FAGE, and add a shot of sf torani hazelnut and a few slivered almonds for crunch... also ground flax seed is nice. You can also flavor the plain yogurt with sf pudding mix. You'll want to avoid the yogurts with sugar, of course. You can also add a spoon of no sugar added all fruit preserves, I think. Enjoy!

Hormones are stored in fat cells... the short answer is YES... this is likely related to surgery, and the release of said hormones from those fat cells you are shrinking. I already lean towards the emotional, so I'm a bit concerned about post-op. Ha! Enjoy the ride, I'm sure it will soon pass.

Carbonated Beverage 10 Weeks Out
ShapeShifter replied to HondaCivicDude's topic in Food and Nutrition
Sugar free flavored STILL water, like water with MiO, or vitamin water, or crystal light are fine... Carbonation is not a good idea. My surgeon says never again. Maybe the flavors will help. -

August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
ShapeShifter replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello lovelies! I've been around since February 2012, and finally finished hoop jumping for insurance coverage. I start my liquid diet on 8/3, have my pre-op day of meetings at the center of excellence on 8/8... and finally have surgery on 8/17. I am 43, 5'5", and 247 lbs (as of today). I started the year at 267. My initial aim is to lose 100 lbs, but I don't really know what that will look like after more than 20 years, so I plan to adjust as I go along and see how I look and feel. This is all about health for me, not about size. I have severe sleep apnea and joint and back pain I am hoping to release. Wishing all of us well on our journeys to improved health! -
At What Weight Limit Did You Say "you Have Had Enough"?
ShapeShifter replied to Gonnabeslim1day's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
20 years unable to get below 220 and easily gaining 30 lbs in a year. Fearing the next 20 years, and the next 30 lbs. Highest known weight was 269. Learning about the sleeve was the answer, for me. -

Hey Ladies... A Few Personal Questions
ShapeShifter replied to myownjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been open about my pending surgery. When I talked with the people I love who started to react negatively, I shared with them what I carry on the inside. What they never see, because I spare them my suffering. I talked about the pain, and the shame. I think it is impossible for someone who has not walked in morbidly obese shoes to understand the emotional agony that fills their less genetically lucky loved ones. One friend told me that she saw me as all smiles and sunshine, and never knew that I was hurting on the inside. She is now completely supportive of my choice. If you care to do that work with your friend, let yourself be vulnerable and share your truth. If she has an ounce of empathy, she will come around. If she doesn't come around, I have learned, you will always have more friends. Wishing you all the best on your journey!
