The Difference In Surgeons...
phatdivabbw replied to shelleyrn22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think its their own personal preference and of course theirs is the best. LOL A good example is I wasn't required to follow a pre-op diet. I was Clear liquids the day before. My friend had to do a two week clear liquid pre-op diet. Now she has to do two more weeks clear liquids post-op and can have fruit juice. . I'm one week clear liquids post-op and can't have fruit juice. Even internally I received a booklet from the surgeon pre-op stating I can have Calcium caltrate. I went out and purchased OsCal only to get documentation from his nutritionist to not use calcium caltrate but only calcium citrate!! Grrrrrr!! I understand!! -
Today I honestly questioned if I have some type of undiagnosed mental condition. I've been paranoid all day to the point of tears. I woke up thinking OMG I hope I don't have blood clots in my legs. I felt like I couldn't breathe. My body was tired. I thought maybe I was drinking to much. I sucked down a warm 12 ounce cup of decaf lemon green tea with no problem. Of course it gave me the "RUNS" (TMI) but my sleeve tolerated it and didn't fill up. I was worried half the day I had broken my sleeve. I also felt dehydrated. When I wasn't going through my psychosis I was sleeping. SMDH I made myself get out of the house and the fresh air helped to clear my head. I went to GNC and Target. I pushed myself to get out of the car. My body didn't want to do it. In Target I was sweating profusely and winded. My youngest son was with me and was very good with asking me if I was okay, By the time we got home I felt so much better. I truly believe we need to get out of the house after sugery. I walked my first and second day post op but hadn't been back out. It's so important to try to normalize your life after sugery or you just might go crazy!

Surgery Failed Today!
phatdivabbw replied to Sleeve-A-Licious's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know it sucks but just as you realize you are grateful. Some people have last meals or drink before surgery because they feel the won't be able to again. I was terrified to eat or drink anything for fear of a enlarged liver. Follow the docs instructions and get your date rescheduled. We will be waiting for you. Hugs -
Have you been following a surpervised plan over the past 6 mths? My insurance allowed me to use the nutrtionist visits as my 6myh plan. I do agree the insurance coordinator knows what the insurance company will accept or what to do to submit you paperwork.

How Much Help Will I Need After Hospital?
phatdivabbw replied to Smoggy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you should even if it is for moral support. Since everyone' s experience is different is hard to say. I had a lot of adminal soreness and needed help getting up and down. I felt crappy and having someone helping me was a blessing. We go through so many emotional and physical changes the first week. My BF is awesome. He has kept me in check. Tonight I took the container of sugar free Jello out of the fridge. Grabbed my toddler spoon and began to eat. He said what are you doing. He took the container. Measured out 4 ounces and scorned me not to overdo it. That's a bad habit the old Lewanda would do eating out of the container. I'm sure had he let me continue I would be sick because although I had my toddler spoon in hand I probably would have eaten to much and be suffering right now. -
I was sleeved on May 17. Today was a bad day. When I went out I smelled every smell from every fast food, pizzaria, bbq spot. I have to pick a new route to drive home. Tonight I discovered Diet Peach Snapple. It was like a GodSend. I hope it's decaf. I took one too many sips and ugh! Now I'm a little queasy. Hang in there my friend.

Sleeved On May 17Th - I Thought I Was Ready. Not!
phatdivabbw posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 3 days post-op. My first day was horrible because of gas pain, nausea and vomiting. I was afraid I would hurt my sleeve. Also I was hooked up to a bunch of monitors because my blood pressure sky rocketed. The dry heaves really hurt your belly. I didn't feel like talking to anyone. Day 2 was a little better. I asked for pain and nausea medicine like clockwork to help me cope. I also slept a lot. My Iron count was very low too. I had to get an iron transfusion. The gas pains seemed to go away but I'm still scared of hurting my sleeve. Day 3 there was little nausea but no dry heaves or retching. I did vomit a lot of foamy stuff. I'm home now and I feel better. I didn't sleep well last night. I have 3 small and 1 big incisions above my belly button. I did get up and walk and I manged to drink without becoming nauseous. My doc said it's normal for women to experience severe nausea. The docs would not dischage me until I could drink without vomiting. I wasn't scared going into the surgery but I feel a mini meltdown coming over me. I have tons of meds and Vitamins to take (approx 10) including levonox shots I have to give myself to prevent blood clots. I'm keeping it real with you. You have to be strong. You have to know what you want. I don't think there is anything you can do to prepare yourself because each person is different. I figured I had two C-Sections and a hernia operation so it would be a piece of cake! NOT! LOL This is going to be a lifesaver for me so I keep focused on that. Most people feel like themselves by the 5th day post-op I'm told and have experienced. My friend was sleeved on the 15th and she is going back to work tomorrow. I took a week off from work. The doctor wants me to take two weeks. I went for two walks today and I do feel better every day! -

Three days post-op and I'm feeling better everyday. I'm not going to lie and tell you how awesome my experience was. SMH After surgery I felt surreal. I couldn't believe I actually gave consent for 85% of my stomach to be removed forever! I felt like I had been beat up bad! I was hooked up to monitors because my blood pressure had skyrocted!! I had the urge to pee but couldn't. The nurses encourage you to drink and I couldn't get anything in. two little baby sips and I became nauseous and had dry heaves, retching and vomiting up some yucky stuff. I had loose stools and getting to the bathroom was a mess. The nurses did not respond to the call bells so I started unhooking myself from the monitors and going to the bathroom. A lady came from intergrative medicine to give me pressure point acupuncture to help with the nausea but whatever she did made it worse and I started to vomit. This made my belly sore. I was scare to death all the heaving would hurt my new sleeve. The doc assured me this was normal and most women experience severe nausea because of the part of the stomach being removed. She suggested I take my nausea meds before trying to drink. I could not get discharged until I was able to drink. So two day later I was discharged. Today was my first real day home and I went out to take a walk this morning and too a little stroll in the park too. I came up short on my liquid intake. I should be drinking 3-4 ounces every hour this week and a minimum of 48 ounces total. I have to work on that because I don't want to get dehydrated.

Nervous, Excited, Scared!
phatdivabbw commented on Ready for the new Lay-Lay's blog entry in tiredoffat's Blog
I was sleeved on the 17th. This is how I kept my focus. I thought about all the pain I have been in etc; this was my fuel. I don't think it's no way to prepare ourselves. Everyone responds differently. The worst part post-op for me was the nausea, vomiting, retching and gas pains. I felt horrible. Each day I feel a little better. You will survive! Keep your focus. -

OMG! Today is my last day at work. My plan is to return on 5/29/12 prayerfully I will be ready! I thought this day would never come. My co-workers want to go for Chinese today because in their mind I will not be a able to do our Friday splurge anymore. I keep explaining to them that I can still splurge but I will not be able to eat as much! Why can't folks understand that concept? I'm not mourning my loss for food. I know I will make smarter choices but nothing is on restriction. Right?
