    Vomitting?

My surgery is on April 12th so I visit here daily and have been a little scared by all the posts I've been reading about the constant vomitting even long after surgery. Should I be worried about this? How common is it?

    Vomitting?

Thank you for sharing this. I will be extra cautious about bite size for that reason. I just bought some cocktail shrimp forks that I plan to use to size my bites. I'm sure I'll look silly but if it works who cares! lol

    Vomitting?

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. I've been so worried about being constantly sick and miserable that I had seriously considered rethinking the surgery but since this seems like a temporary and doable transition I am willing to tough it out to get to my goal.

    Vomitting?

Your reply had me cracking up...just love your sense of humor! Glad to know that you didn't have this problem long term. I am wondering if this could also be caused by eating solids too soon or are others barfing from just Water? What exactly causes the vomitting?

    How Hungry Are You?

Ghrelin is the hormone that stimulates appetite and it is produced in the fundus/ upper part of the stomach which is mostly removed with vsg. I agree with others that most of us who need this surgery probably have some food addiction issues and that head hunger is most likely the cause of feeling so hungry post op.

    A Sushi Nightmare,lesson Learned :(

I'm thinking it must have been the rice as well. I have a co-worker who had the surgery a few months ago and she was eating salmon sashimi with no problem by the 3rd or 4th month out. Rice tends to ball up and get stuck on the way down to the stomach and that might have been what caused the pain. Where did you feel the pain? Was it more chest pain or stomach pain?
  13. I need this info also because the meds I take have to be taken with food to avoid stomach upset...I wonder how we'll do that. I hope to hear the same answers as you.

You should as your doctor first but the Lindora line of products offer a good variety of high Protein soups, shakes, and drinks that you could probably have during this phase. Check out Lindora.com or you can go to Rite Aide if you have one close becuause they sell some of their products too. *ask*
  16. You can also try out protein bullets. I got them from Vitaminshoppe. They're small tubes that pack a lot of protein.

  18. So with my surgery date of April 12th fast approaching I'm starting to feel a little panicky inside. I feel like I'm as prepared as I should be by now. I've given up coffee and soda but have not stopped drinking with meals yet because it feels impossible not to! I'v found that I'm wanting to eat everything that is not nailed down because I think I won't be able to ever again. It's rediculous. I guess the food addiction thing is much deeper than I had realized before. I'm feeling scared that I will be miserable after surgery when I am not able to calm my nerves with food any longer. Any thoughts? What were your thoughts and feelings 2-3 weeks before your surgeries?

    Egd !

I had mine done two months ago and it was easy peasy. I was nervous and worked up in the waiting room and when they got me hooked up to all the IV's and then wheeled me down the hall. But when I got in the room and they started the meds that sedate you I started to feel high as a kite and euphoric...lol The last thing I remember is feeling REAL good and thinking to myself "Oh Yea" lol and then I was out. The only thing I remember was coughing as the scope went down and that's it. When I came out of the sedation I was groggy for the rest of the day but overall it was super easy and nothing to be scared about even in the slightest. You'll do fine.
  21. Hi All, I'm in the insurance approval process and waiting for for a date. Although I am not afraid of the actual surgery I find that I am very concerned about the pain and nausea after coming out of anesthesia. What have been your experiences?

Worried About Recovery Room Pain & Nausea

OMG! Burning pain? That sounds like they didn't have you on enough pain meds to stop that from happening. Glad you made it through ok and are doing well.

Worried About Recovery Room Pain & Nausea

That sounds awful! I'm so sorry your nurse was cold hearted by letting you be sick all night long. I really hate to throw up and doing so with a freshly operated stomach sounds even worse. I hope I am able to have a better experience but it sounds like you were a trooper.
