Time Of The Month During Your Surgery?
slimthickens replied to urbandecayno5's topic in The Gals' Room
OMG! So glad this question was posted because I am due for surgery on Thursday and this morning I have the familiar rumblings of an approching period. grrrrrr!! My question is will I be able to bend enough to insert a tampon or will the post op pain be too bad to allow for this? I don't want to wear the mess panties and pad and risk bleeding all over myself because I'm forced into being in a laying position....anwers please ladies? -
So I've been doing great on my high protein/liquid pre-op diet and have lost 11 pounds in 3 weeks from it. As I sit here at my computer with a full belly and not the slightest bit of hunger on my mind and then it hits me. In through my window wafts the awesome smell of someone grilling carne asada and I INSTANTLY feel like I'm starving! I know its only head hunger and that its purely a mind thing so I close the window and distract myself for a few minutes and the hunger is completely gone...go figure...lol

Today I met with my surgeon for my final visit before surgery on April 12th next week. I had him on the hot seat as I grilled and drilled him with 2 handwritten pages full of questions. He answered them all patiently and we laughed and visited more like old friends than doctor and patient...lol He was so kind and and walked me through everything that I should and should not expect on surgery day. My husband got a real kick out of him too. He not only dismissed my initial consultation fee but today he also let me know that he would not be charging me a penny extra to repair the hiatal hernia they found during my endoscopy! I love my surgeon!!!

Im So Frustrated...i Could Cry
slimthickens replied to Sandra_Baby87's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would bump up the surgery date and negotiate a payment plan with your surgeon's office. Most surgeons are willing to do this and I hope it works out for you. -
Start trying to lose weight ahead of time and before the liquid diet is assigned. I saw my surgeon 2 days ago and told him about the 11 pound weight loss I just had by doing a high protein diet for the last 3 weeks and he said it was great and that I could skip the liquid diet because of it.

Try blending them with more water than usual so that they can be easily drank through a sports bottle with a cap. This should eliminate smelling anything with every swig.
-
Tell them when they get their own weights under control then they can spend their energy focusing on yours.

Where's My Hair? And Other Rants...
slimthickens replied to Mrs.Prisses's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang it there girl! Remember that the hair loss and thinning is only temporary as your body focuses all its energy on losing weight. Once your weight begins to stabilize you will see that your hair will start to grow again. Acne is common for the same reason but once your hormones level out that will subside too. Try to focus on your improving health instead of your looks or you will drive yourself crazy. Focus on the fact that your joints and bones feel better, that your heart health is better, that your blood pressure of diabetes is better (if you have them). You are doing a wonderful thing for your body and that in and of itself is a very beautiful thing. -
Surgery Vs Jenny Craig
slimthickens replied to arj1016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It all depends on what your relationship is with food. I did the Jenny Craig thing and gained it all back and more because I am one who is dependent on food for comfort. This is something I've been working on for quite a while now in preparation for surgery. For me the surgery is the best tool I can give myself to help combat that dependency. -
Leg Pain? What Would You Do?

You can also buy a pair of compression socks at a medical supply store of pharmacy that will mimic the ones that you wore in the hospital and will help to prevent clots. -

How Long Did Your Process Take?
slimthickens replied to tamarlarae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My process began in Sept of this year with the initial consult and ended this month. My surgery date is next week and the approval process for me was less than a week's time. I have UH for Railroad employees. -
Whatever decision you make is the one that is right for you at the time. Don't feel obligated either way. I wish you much success for whichever path you choose.

I plan to have mine out when I have my VSG next week becuase so many of us will have problems down the line from the rapid weight loss. I'd rather deal with it now than later.

I Am 5 Weeks Post Op And Suddenly Feel Like I Have Something Stuck In My Throat. Help!
slimthickens replied to dodiefrisby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't even been sleeved yet but I can tell you that cucumbers are notriously famous for causing heartburn and stomach upset especially if underipe and with skins on! I get immediate stomach pressure and burping right after eating them. Hope you get to feeling better soon. *Notoriously* lol -

7 Months Post-Op With Pics! :

Wow! You look awesome! Keep up the good work! -
So true about the Isopure! lol It actually tastes pretty good going in but as soon as you exhale, that nasty dry aftertaste slaps you upside the head...lol I've tried the grape, passion fruit, fruit punch and green apple. The green apple was the only one that I could drink and somewhat enjoy. I think the strong sour green apple flavor must distract you from the aftertaste or something.

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?
slimthickens replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Jimmygotsoul! My surgery is April 12th and I'm experiencing everything you mentioned above but the hubby has been helping me to keep calm and carry on. He asked me something that really made me think. He said "If you don't have the surgery will you be ok with things staying as they are and your health getting increasingly worse and then the surgery not be an option?" That really opened my eyes and had me thinking oh ****! What if my blood pressure got so bad that I could no longer have the surgery. Case closed...lol So I'm moving ahead to the 12th. -
