Whoozis, I've read that ginger tea is a great way to get rid of nausea in chemotherapy patients so I plan on trying it but I read the ingredients on the YOGI brand of ginger tea and it said it also contained black pepper which I worried might be too much for my new tummy. Can you tell me what brand you are drinking since its seems that you are tolerating it well?

Tommorow is the big day for me, 4/12!!! So ready to rock and roll and get this over and done with. I just hope they dope me up really well so I don't even know what hit me until its all over...lol

Thanks a bunch for letting me know what the psychiatrist said! I've been so busy getting ready that I completely forgot to make a call to the doc about that. I'll definitely open up the capsules and try to take them with the thickest liquid I can tolerate, possibly some Jello or something. Thanks again.

Just my opinion but I would stay far away from "the crap band...lol" Too many side effects such as constant vomitting, food getting stuck, band slippage, foods you can no longer eat, expensive fills and unfills, and most importantly the fact that the portion of the stomach that produces the hunger hormone ghrelin, is left in place so you want to eat more food but can't! I just can't imagine feeling like I'm starving and not being able to get anything else in....sounds awful to me but you are right to do your research. I think you'll decide on the sleeve once you way all the pros and cons.

I take Effexor xr's too and I'm worried about taking it with nothing solid to eat in my stomach because they really hurt on an empty stomach as I'm sure you already know. I've heard there is a pill form but its not extended released and has a lot more side effects such as vivid or scary dreams WTH? I plan to ask my doc before surgery on Thurs. Let me know if you find out anything before then?

If your BMI is under a certain number or you've lost a number of pounds just prior to surgery then your dr. might not require the pre-op diet since your liver will already be in good shape.

Me too! I go in Thursday morning, the 12th!! We all have to remember that it will be over in the blink of an eye. One moment we'll be talking to the anesthesiologist and the next moment we'll be waking up wondering when they're gonna get started but it will already have been done...lol

Try the Nectar brand of protein powder. It tastes like juice to me with no nasty after taste. I drink the artic breeze.

The surgery is relatively new as a weight loss procedure but has in fact been around for many, many years for cancer patients, those with extreme ulcers etc. Look at it this way. VSG may be new in the weight loss arena but HYPERTENSION, HIGH CHOLESTEROL, DIABETES, DEPRESSION , and even some forms of CANCER HAVE been around for a long time and are most likely coming for all of us if we stay morbidly obese so try to think of things in that way.

Wow. If I were in your shoes (which I am cause my surgery is day after you..lol) I would sit all 3 of them down together and ask them to explain to you one by one, all of their concerns. Chances are they have not done the amount of research you have into the surgery and you can then take the opportunity to understand where you are coming from and why. Hopefully with the same level of knowlege into the surgery that you have, they will be able to fully understand and wholeheartedly support you.

I just tried the Fage brand yesterday and I about flipped my lid because it was so freakin good!! I mixed half a container of the 0% Fage with a tablespoon of Yoplait fat free lemon and it tasted like the most awesome creme fresh ever made. I really hope I can still tolerate it after surgery on the 12th or I will be very disapointed.

GIRL! You turned your car around and went back home!!!!! You deserve some major props for that one!!! Try to limit your time with your parents if its causing you stress. You could just explain that you need some alone time to get your mind ready for the surgery. It'll all be ok and you'll be proud of yourself in the end. Hang in there.

Hi Thinkingskinny, I too hate the taste of milky Protein shakes and have found that the nectar brand ones taste delicious. The arctic breeze one is my new favorite. That brand tastes like drinking juice instead of thick, stinky, milky Protein drinks. Give it a try and I hope you are feeling better soon.

I've had my sleeve name picked out for a while. I get sleeved this coming thursday and then I will be proud to introduce him as "Sleevie Wonder" !!!
