Whole Grain Crackers Or Wheat Thins.
slimthickens posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just about to start mushies but am dreaming of the day I can eat whole grain crackers or wheat thins. I know that refined bread and such can cause problems for us post- op but would like to know if any of you have been able to tolerate whole grain breads and crackers post-op and if so how far out were you. I know that protein will always be first for us but I strongly believe that whole grains should be a vital part of any healthy weight loss plan or lifestyle. Thoughts? -
Sleeping On Your Back
slimthickens replied to sleepysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first came home I bawled like a baby because I couldn't sleep comfortably in ANY position. If I layed on my back I felt like my stomach was flopping around inside. On my side felt like my stomach was dangling freely inside my abdomen and sleeping on my stomach was out of the question. I was so desperate my 3rd night home that I slept in the front passenger seat of my car with the seat reclined just right!!! LMBO. Now I'm 2 weeks post op and I can sleep on my right side very comfortably with a pillow in between my knees and another in between my arms and slightly under my side for support. When you do sleep on your side try to sleep on your right side because that is the natural position that your stomach drains in into the duodenum and this will preven acid from flowing upward into the esophogus. I hope this helps. -
You sound like a wonderfully supportive husband and your wife will be lucky to have you on her team. Adding freshly squeezed juices from a juicer should be no problem as long as you stay away from acidic fruits and veggies like tomatoes, lemons, oranges etc. These can be irritating to our new stomachs for a while. Also I would suggest using a mechanical juicer like the Jack Lalane one because they remove most if not all of the pulp from the liquid whereas the hand juicers leave a good amount of pulp which she will want to avoid until she is past the liquid stages of the post-op diet. Best wishes to both you and your wife.

Don't Take It So Seriously And I Promise To Do The Same
slimthickens commented on tmorgan813's blog entry in A funny thing happend while I was loosing weight
LOVE THIS!!!! I had the same experience at Bed Bath and Beyond when I was looking for a small set of ramekins to eat from post-op. The sales lady came over and I told her that I needed them for after my weight loss surgery to serve out small portions and she looked at me with this overly concerned look and said "Oh no" "Be careful!" I felt like saying "b***h!" I'll give you $50 right now if you can tell me at least 3 facts pertaining to weight loss surgery since you seem to know so much." LOL Sometimes you just gotta walk away...lol -
I think it comes down to what your priorities are. As women we tend to nag, threaten, and throw a fit when the men in our lives are making us unhappy but in the end we tend to just give up and go with the flow and we are the ones that suffer for it. Your health is suffering now and it is so important that you get it under control before it becomes an even bigger problem. I know you love your boyfriend but in my opinion he is telling you by his actions that he has no intention on changing his situation so the choice is now yours to either continue with things the way they are and have all the stress that comes along with it or put your foot down and step back and allow him to help himself. I don't mean to sound harsh or cruel but you've given him all the tools to help himself but he would rather place the burden back on you without regard to what it is doing to your health. Put yourself and your child first and if he truly does love you he will understand.

Insurance Denial For Gaining Weight?
slimthickens replied to NisaletOAM's topic in Insurance & Financing
Absolutely they can! Be very careful not to gain weight for that reason. If you do end up gaining weight be sure to wear lightweight clothing and weigh without shoes when you weigh in at your Nutritionist appoinment. If you have gained weight while on your menstrual cycle be sure your nutritionist puts that in the notes as the reason for possible weight gain. I had gained 2 or 3 pounds and my NUT made sure to notate that because she said that insurance companies are using weight gain as reason for denying or at least forcing you to delay your surgery. -

Thanks for the feedback everyone! -
Just be careful about blowing out farts in the early days post-op since you're on mostly liquids....you might get a little surprise! LMBO

Are We There Yet?!
slimthickens replied to kimberlee1235's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My best advice for you would be that now that you have seen the nutritionist it is EXTREMELY important that you don't gain any more weight from this point on since insurance companies will most likely deny you if they see this happening. This is their one way of getting out of paying for the surgery so be very careful not to gain. -
Cold All The Time Including My Nose!
slimthickens replied to ssansoucie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first week home I was FREEZING all the time! My husband thought I was crazy since it was warm in the house. Its just now that I am able to feel warm and at a normal body temp. It does go away after a while post-op so hang in there. -

slimthickens replied to slimthickens's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories

11 Days Post-Op And Feeling Great.
slimthickens posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It's hard to believe that I had major surgery just a little over a week ago. My incisions are completley healed and I have no more pain or discomfort of any kind. I am getting in my water and protein and I am almost never really hungry. I have had a couple of bouts of head hunger but nothing I couldn't get through by simply changing my thoughts to something else. The only real difficulty has been getting through the phases of diet progression. I really want something solid to eat like crackers or cheese in my belly...lol The other thing I've noticed is that the thought of sweets turns my stomach! I want savory things instead. I think it has to do with the fact that everything I'm eating now has a sweet flavor-puddings, yogurts etc. And don't even get me started on those nasty sweet flavored protein drinks!!!!! I can't stand protein drinks anymore...lol But its a small price to pay for good health so I gripe and complain but still follow the rules. I've lost 10 pounds in 11 days so I'm not complaining. -
I think its important for you to accept your mom's opinion as it is but at the same time don't make your life decisions contingent upon the approval of others no matter how much you love them. Look at all the reasons you listed for having the surgery. That list alone should solidify your decision regardless of what anyone else might think. I was on the gurney seconds from being wheeled into the OR when my mother in law leaned over and told me that it was not too late to back out and not have the surgery...lol You just have to be strong in your decision and your rights as an adult to make that decision with or without the support of your mother.

Lifting Question.
slimthickens replied to futureskinnypants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL, I have a 22 pound pug and she is quite the fatty. She sleeps on the bed with us at night so I trained her to come to the foot of the bed and stand up against the footboard so that I can lift her only half way before she's on the bed. I'm only 8 days out and so far have had no problems lifting her using this technique. Hope that helps. -
Length Of Stay In Hospital?
slimthickens commented on sugarbear6281's blog entry in Sugarbear6281's Blog
I was in for two and a half days but I really should have stayed a third. You shouldn't let them discharge you until your pain is well controlled and you are able to keep liquids down for a full day without problems. -
1St Day I Threw Up :(
slimthickens replied to GabbyEstrada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Refined breads that are not whole grain turn into a thick gooey ball in our stomachs and take a long time to get down which usually results in barfing it back up. Try that same same sandwhich on whole grain bread to see if it makes a difference for you. -
I am craving hummus soooo badly but am still on full liquids so I'm not supposed to have it but I am thinking about mixing in a teaspoon or so into plain greek yogurt to see if It gives the yogurt that taste.

So that's what's up! LOL I was wondering why I was feeling so fired up lately. My tummy is still to sore and my incisions to tender for sex but I was watching my hubby take out the trash without a shirt on yesterday and was getting all riled up...lol

GET IT BOY!!!

Today is day 5 post op for me and I am starting to feel good again. I woke up this morning before the sun and did housework and light chores. Yesterday I was so wiped out that wouldn't have been possible. I finally slept in my bed for a full night so I'm thinking that is what made the difference for me. I am down 3 pounds since surgery. Doesn't sound like much but I'm happy about it since I gained around 6 pounds while in the hospital after getting all the fluids daily. I plan to continue taking it easy for the rest of the day and focus on getting in all my liquids and protein.

4 Days Post-Op & Feeling Better Plus Tmi Alert!
slimthickens commented on slimthickens's blog entry in slimthickens' Blog
Kiki, I had already tried to make a nest of pillow as well but I tend to move just way too much at night so they wouldn't stay put and I just gave up. However, I finally slept in my bed last night for a full night....yay! -
4 Days Post-Op & Feeling Better Plus Tmi Alert!
slimthickens posted a blog entry in slimthickens' Blog
Today is day 4 post-op for me and I'm finally starting to feel a little like my old self again. I was able to lay in my bed for a cat nap today for the first time without my organs feeling like they are rearranging themselves inside...lol I was so desperate for sleep the other night that I actually grabbed my pillow and blanket and slept in the passenger seat of my car!! NO LIE!! It was the only place I could think of to simulate a hospital bed at home and it worked. The next morning when I woke up In the driveway I remembered that my back living room couch is a sectional with a recliner on one end!!!! It had to be the pain meds that didn't allow that to come into my mind before I got into the dang car...lol I've been sleeping in the recliner now and it does help but I soooo want to be back in my bed for a full nights rest. On another note and one that is typical for the way things go for me in my life, As I lay in the recliner this morning starting to notice that I was feeling a little better and like my old self again I sneezed and then realized that I NOW HAD A COLD!!!! Shaking my head I got up to use the restroom and then realized that I had also just STARTED MY PERIOD!!!!!!! All I could do was laugh and just roll with it...lol -
STAY OFF THAT SCALE! Try to weigh only once a week or you will drive yourself nuts. The body goes through a lot after surgery and it is trying to figure out where it is supposed to be weight wise, calorie wise, metabolisim wise, etc. It's been through a major upset to the status quo and you shouldn't be surprised if the scale is registering all over the place for a while. Think of it as a pilot trying to save a crashing plane (not that we are crashing..lol). As he heading nose first toward the ground he frantically jerks up on the wheel (don't think planes have wheels...lol) trying to bring the plane up high enough so that it can begin to level out, then he starts to go into a tailspin but pulls hard left to straighten that out...etc. Our bodies are doing the exact same thing right now so you needn't worry. As long as you are sticking to the plan, your clothes are feeling looser, and you are excersicing regularly you will lose weight. Only weigh yourself once a week and try to get involved in something else other than counting the pounds.
