  1. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2004 and have been fighting with weight loss ever since. After discussing with my OBGYN, Cardiologist, and Endocrinologist they all agree that Lap Band surgery will "HELP" me with weight loss, but it will be much harder than someone without PCOS. I have mixed emotions, and thoughts of being a failure on a daily basis. I dont want this to be another diet attempt that doesnt work. I am on 2500mg of Metformin daily, Birth control, and BP meds. The only weight loss success I have had with any diet was being on a STRICT INSULIN RESISTANT DIET. It is similar to The South Beach, but I basically just ate chicken and berries (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry) for my Breakfast lunch and dinner. I lost close to 30lbs and was thrilled, but the second i stopped and put any carb in my mouth I gained weight and bloated severly. So after discussion with the nutritionist, I will be on the liquid diet 2 weeks before my band and then after ofcourse. But once I can start with mushies ect, i will try to follow an insulin resistan diet because it worked well for me in the past. I have found alot of good advice and support here with other bandsters that have PCOS and they all agree that EXERCISE really helps. So I hope this helped you, and my surgery is set for June 11th. I will try and keep you posted
  2. OHHHHH I know how you feel..My Surgery is scheduled for June 11th, and I go from feeling excited to days of I dont think I should do this. What I think needs to happen is "I NEED TO STOP RESEARCHING ON THE COMPUTER" For every success story I read, there is a horror story to follow. So I have to realize that this is going to help me with many medical problems, and I need to stay positive, trust my Doctor, and go forward with the Lap Band. I wish you the best and hope that you have a speedy recovery.
  3. Kimmypoo... WOW you have no idea how I needed to hear that this morning. With the Holidays this weekend, and the thoughts of family and food all around me, your successful weight loss with the band and PCOS is music to my ears. Not a day has gone by for the past 8 years since I was diagnosed with PCOS, that I dont think about what I put into my mouth. If I dont I shutter to think how much my weight would climb to. My nutritionist also said that this is going to be a harder road for me with the PCOS, but that EXERCISE is the key. So, my basement is cleaned out and a treadmill is now sitting there (just waiting for me to use it) LOL I told myself that no matter what I will walk 30 min a day, and weather permitting I hope to get outside and get more active. My surgery is scheduled for June 11th and I am just in the pre-Op testing Phase with all my doctors. Well keep up the great work and have a Happy Holiday Weekend. I welcome any advice you have for me

I Am Crying As I Write This...

(((((((((((((((((((((HUG))))))))))))))))))))))))) I feel for you, but I have feelings that are up, down, and all over the place as well. I will be having surgery 6/11 and all I can think about is "I shouldnt be eating this or I shouldnt be eating that" I have found support in the pre-op support groups. Have you tried going to a meeting? Please stay positive and think about being healthy with your weight loss, and the good things that will come along with it. That is what i keep telling myself. please keep intouch

I Need To Hear About Your Success With Lap Band And Pcos.

Hi Kristy..I am ready for the slow and steady road as long as i see a loss..even if its a pound a week..something is better than nothing. Thanks again for your feedback. I am thankful for your help
  10. Dear Kelli, Thank you so much for responding. I am just sooooo frustrated and scared that my lap band will be just like every other diet I have been on for the past 8 years and not loose weight. I will give this my all because I am really uncomfortable in my own skin. My OBGYN feels that all my PCOS will clear up to some degree with steady weight loss. So in 6 weeks I will start a liquid diet and on June 11th I will have my surgery. Slow and steady weight loss will make me more than happy so I will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again. I am happy for you having results and wish you the best. Love, Tonya

I Need To Hear About Your Success With Lap Band And Pcos.

Dear Kristy, Well the book that you wrote..lol..was the "STORY OF MY LIFE". I mean to the letter. I am very similar to you..I am 39, diagnosed with PCOS 8 years ago, and have gained every year to a total of a 225lbs.. at 5'3 as you know, anything over 200lbs is hard to move. I am on all the same meds you were on, and after an increase of Metformin and staying on a strict Insulin resistant diet I am now down to 200lbs.. I finally decided to seek Lap Band help after a breakdown of frustration in my OBGYN office, and he said that maybe I should look into it. I am in no rush to loose the weight overnight, but I am affraid if I dont see results after surgery I will go crazy.. I am even having a dream that I GAIN WEIGHT after surgery. I am going to a support meeting tomorrow for pre-op, but no one suffers from PCOS. Thank you for your understanding and sharing your story..its crazy how similar we are, and I have hope now that I know it worked for you.
  12. I suffer with PCOS and have tried everything under the sun to loose weight. I have decided to get Lap Band Surgery on June 11, 2012 in hopes that this will be my cure to many health problems. I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE WITH PCOS THAT THE LAP BAND WORKED FOR YOU. For every success story I hear for one, in the next moment I hear that I didnt work for another. I will be taking a chunk out of my savings to pay for this, due to the fact it is an exclusion on my insurance policy. I really hope that this is not thousands down the drain and I will not have weight loss success. I would love to hear from you.
  13. Well I have went from years of frustration with PCOS, to now being extremly nervous that I will not loose weight with my upcoming Lap Band surgery scheduled for June 11, 2012. I spend hours on end at the computer reading success stories, and then all I need to do is come accross that one story that surgery did not help with weight loss due to PCOS. My insurance will not pay for surgery so I will be paying $12,000 with the hope that this will be my cure. I am in NO RUSH to loose weight quickly, and I am a firm believer that slow and steady wins the race, BUT I REALLY NEED TO HEAR THAT THERE IS HOPE WITH BANDING AND PCOS. I would really love to hear from you. Thanks for listening.
