Carols5417- I'm glad that ur listening to docs advice and not getting discouraged. BTB recently posted something about just finishing a 5k- doesn't matter if u crawl, walk, or run. (Please forgive if the words aren't 100% correct) those are words of wisdom! Good for u and ur dh walking 2.2 miles! What an accomplishment! I can't wait to see the 5k pix of u and the dh.

If u don't mind me asking, why not? It's a great experience. U think u get a runners high now? There's nothing more exciting and fulfilling than crossing the finish line with people clapping and the announcer calling out ur name and hometown. Couple that with the satisfaction of kicking a course's ass!! It's quite an addicting experience! No pressure tho, just friendly encouragement.

Wow, it's only 115 bucks until May 25th!! I was also surprised to see that they don't cap entrants. Hmmm. The race is affordable and that would be a SUPREME first marathon!! Now, I just got to figure out to get the dh on board with finances - airfare, hotel, etc. I've never been and it's always been on our list of places... I'll definitely keep you posted. You doin it?

I think we all think, "Walk?! WTF, I've worked hard to be able to run non-stop. I'm amazing!" Okay, well not so much with the amazing, but there is a since of pride, almost elitism. So, it just so happens that I'm doing a 10 miler next weekend and a new running friend is doing it too! I'm excited for her, but her longest run is 7 miles. My original thought was to run the first five and then take walking breaks and then I remembered BTB's post about Galloway. I did some looking and she's down for trying out the galloway method. We are going to run 4 minutes and then walk 1 minute. Am I crazy to think that she should be able to do this? I'm thinking that this should make the 10 miles definitely doable. I already told her that she is probably going to be sore because that's a three mile distance increase. She just wants to finish the event upright (HECK- we've all been here. LOL ) She wants to run most of it. Who knows? I might fall in love with it too??

Thanks, guys! Johnlatte, u described my dh symptoms to a tee. He even said, "hey, that sounds just like me!" Lol. How long does the cortisone shot provide relief? Thank u, BTB for the specific stretch suggestions. He tried making the fist with the toes and it gave him a little bit of a charley. I told him to only start with a few and do it daily. He's going to sleep in his brace tonight. I read about them here and ordered them awhile ago. He used them inconsistently. I'm hoping that if he hears about people getting past the initial pain of stretching things out and starting to exercise more, he would be more inclined to stick with it. I know it has to be discouraging. Thanks for the help!!

Yes, he's big with the RunDisney folks. He actually spoke at the last event I was at and I walked right on by. D'oh! I also missed Ali Vincent (biggest loser winner from awhile ago)! I'm still bummed about that. And yeah- I've seen the walk/run people finish with decent times. Not too shabby for doing some walking.

Good luck! U will complete the two miles. I'd like to recommend that u get rid of the words "only" and "just". You did 23 minutes!! There is no only about that. Rock it out tomorrow!

Hi brendak! I think it was four months before I tried to ride. I think I would've been fine at the 6 week mark. Check with ur doc. I recommend that u don't let too much time pass. My saddle doesn't fit and I practically flipped out of the saddle when I rode last. My balance was completely off kilter. Lol. U might want to check in with cowgirljane. I recall her talking about doing drill team. I am more of a three to four times a month gal. Right now my son has been doing the riding. I've had no interest. Good luck! -
Docs know best, but I would strongly recommend avoiding crunches. In fact, I would focus on walking only for the first four weeks. Let ur body heal. I understand the sense of urgency, but focus on healing first. Besides u can get good exercise and benefits from walking. Good luck!

Any ladies out there have PCOS put your hands up!
danyelleb replied to Red_lips_and_confidence's topic in The Gals' Room
I had to have a MRI as well to rule out tumors on my pituitary gland. I was freaked, but so glad that I did it. I needed to have it done to be cleared as well. I haven't had a migraine since my surgery! I've had headaches but nothing like before. Prior to vsg I was diagnosed with PCOS, hyperprolactenemia, and metabolic x syndrome. I still have issues with my prolactin levels. I had a nasty nasty cyst in January and ended up getting the mirena. As mentioned before- had a horrible experience, but now I finally stopped spotting!! I stopped about a week ago. I might be a fan of the mirena after all. Lol. I hope the u get the clearance soon- the sleeve makes all the difference in the world! -
I agree with BTB about paying attention to detail. Plastics is a big freaking deal- major surgery. Personally I would be a bit concerned if someone didn't do thorough research before paying thousands of dollars and subjecting themselves to an optional surgery. Good for u for making an educated decision. I'm excited for u and I enjoy reading ur posts. My thoughts are with u. I can't wait to hear the after stories. Thank u for sharing the entire experience with us!

I know this is off topic. Sorry to those that r following. Amy- here are some pics. For some reason I can't attach pics to a conversation, but I can do it on a thread. Sigh.

Hi ya, Jean! Big congrats on the weight loss and the supreme accomplishment of being able to run a 5k on the treadmill!!! The sleeve is a beautiful thing! Congrats and I wish u continued success!!
