March And April Sleevers How Are You Doing? What Are You Really Eating? (Confessions)
jlweb23 replied to Anewlifeforme23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved march 8th..went from 203 on surgery day to 166 today! I am dropping clothes sizes like flies! Lol. I eat one egg with melted chedder on top for breakfast. If i have coffee, i add a scoop of isopure powder andsplenda. Lunch is a slice of chedder cheese abd 2 slices of deli chicken. Snack in afternoon is maybe a greek yogurt or nuts . Dinner is some kind of chicken or whatever my husband made.. I just eat the protien part of it. I dont even want to eat all the carbs i used to eat:) -
I was stalled for about 5 weeks:( Finally this past week lost 5 pounds!!!! I really needed that!! I was sleeved march 8th at 203 lbs, now 166:)
-
I was sleeved march 8th, and am down 9 lbs for april:) doctor gave me a goal of losing 6 lbs per month, which I thought was low, but its a lot harder than I thought!

Anybody else still having pain? I felt pretty good last week but the past few days i have burning/ pulling on my belly- right side again. Kindof between 2 incisions. This is the only spot that ever really hurt all along.. Nothing major, but sore

March Sleevers..are You Happy W/your Progress?
jlweb23 replied to DDFinn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved march 8th. Lost a pound a day for first 2 weeks, and nothing for the past 2 weeks:( i did go down 2 pants sizes though:) i just wish the scale would move even a tiny bit!! -
All he really had to say about the pain is that the stapler was in the right side, so it will hurt more over there. Didnt seem too concerned, and said i have abdolutely no restrictions to what i can do now. Obviously i will listen to my body, and if it hurts, wont do it ! He also said i can skip my last week of purreed and 2 weeks of soft and just eat what i can tolerate i told him I was a bit discouraged about only losing 17 lbs in a month since surgery, but he said 6 lbs per month is a more realistic goal for me since my bmi was barely 35 to start..? Not sure how i feel about that.. Excited to finally eat though! Ha!

I am at the docs for my 1 month post op now . We'll see what he says:)

I have 6 weeks off, due to lifting restrictions. I am a floor nurse, and employer says must be free from any restriction , or at least 40 lbs before returning, which is 6 weeks.

What do you typically eat in a day to get enough protein/ liquid in ? It doesnt seem possible to eat enough with the amount of protien in such small quantities of food. Will i need to drink protein shakes forever? I bought a big thing of isopure unflavored powder to add to my food but its so gross!
-
How does anyone get enough liquid and protein in? It takes me literally all day to sip 3 protein shakes (which thankfully now stay in my tummy) that is only 330 cslories and 51 grams protein. I have to force myself to keep drinking them. Do you eat food just to get used to eating? Because i dont know when there is time to add more and i feel super full all the time. I can start purees today. I ate some refried beans with melted cheese, but then without drinking before and after i am behind on liquids and even more on protein now. A few bites of beans has barely nothing in it, lol. How do you get enough nutrition and fluid once you start eating?

Whoo Hoo! My First Post-Op Meal Went Smoothly!
jlweb23 replied to Liberated Sleeve's topic in Food and Nutrition
Yum! I can't wait to eat an egg!! After my 8 days of clears, and 2 weeks of full liquid, i am suppposed to have 2 more weeks of pureed before eating real food:( sounds kinda dumb to me, because if you chew really good, anything turns pureed! Wonder why all of the doctors have such a big difference in their post op diets?? -
30 lbs in 3 weeks is alot! not even 3 weeks, actually! Just think, 30 pounds is the same as 120 sticks of butter!!
-
I cant drink my shakes anymore, or milk for that matter:( get horrible belly cramps and a run to the bathroom about hakf hour after even a few sips.. Eas soy protein powder in almond milk and isopure are all that stay dawn, and they dont taste good. My belly is still sore, but I have been home alone wth my kids all week, lifting more than I should. I cant wait for real food!! Full liquids still till 28th, even though i really am only getting in my isopure and soy shake. Too full to drink anything else. Down 14 lbs since surgery:)

I am bad and weigh myself multiple times per day! For the first week or so, I didnt do well with fluids, andc had no protien. On day 8 i started full liquidss and protein shskes. The scale didnt move all week, and tnen all of a sudden, it would be down a few pounds at once:) our bodies are mysterious things ! Hang in there !

Hi, I am new here:) I did my surgery after 2 weeks of pre-op clears plus my eas shakes on 3/8. I did great, even though it was hard cooking for the kids! I had a rough time in the hospital. Didnt tolerate the narcotics, dry heaved for 48 hrs straight, which absolutely killed my stomach!! I was spitting out bloody sputum for about the first 4 days, and was totally freaked out. I wasn't able to swallow anything ( not even melted ice cubes) till the 3 rd day. I just couldnt swallow. I had hiatal hernia repair alao, but dr thought it was due to a lot of swelling from the surgery/ intubation/ vomiting. I started torodol, and continued it at home for a few days, which helped with inflammation. I went home after 3 days, even though i was onlt able to take in about 6 ounces that say. Mostly because my iv stopped working, and it took 2 anesthesiologists 8 pokes to get my first one) I thought i would be better at home. Well, I ended up going back on day 5 and 7 to get more iv fluids after getting very dehydrated. My stomach felt about 9 months pregnant and it hurt when i finally was able to swallow. On day 8, i started my full liquids and was excited to be able to drink my protien shakes again! So sick of clear liquids!! I am now feeling great! My belly gets really sore if i run around too much, which I have been doing. If i wake up good, I want to take the kids to the zoo or something, and then I pay for it later, lol. I also get extremely sore when I sleep. I usually have to take my lortab elixer at bed time, and then in the middle of the night. I have no heart burn, which is great since I started by full liquids 2 days ago, I have really been focusing niw on getting my 60 gms of protien. My eas shakes are 17 each. It takes me about 2 hrs to drink one though. I want to drink other things now that I can, but then I am worried i will be too full to get my protien drink in... My stomach swelling all of a sudden improved significantly:) my steri strips are still on. I noticed a few days ago that my belly button seemed moist. I tried to gently dry it out with a qtip, and some yucky stuff came out. It doest seem to be infected, but just wondering if it was moist from showering, or if i am leaking a little? Anybody else notice this? My other incisions are fine. My right side lower one has always been very sensitive on the surrounding skin, even if i lightly brush my skin. Weird! Anyway, was 205 when i strarted my pre-op liquids, 197 when i entered the hospital, back up to 203 the day after surgery, and 189 today!! I didnt loose anything on my first 5 days or so after discharge when i wasnt eating, then it flew off when i started my shakes again. It is so exciting to see the scale each day:) I am having some urges to cheat so bad on my liquid diet! My doc says no pureed till post op day 20:( i lnow its not safe to eat sooner, but that will be almost 6 weeks of only fluids fo me by the time i start purees!!

After tuesday, my family flies back to wi, and my husband back to work so I will be on my own with all the kids:( I will try and rest as much as I can, but to tell you the truth, ever since my surgery, I have not been able to get a wink of sleep! I feel tired but just have major insomnia. ). Is there any good protien powder that I can get from Walmart? Or do I need to make the trip to the vitamin store? I tried one kind and it seemed to make it thick and foamy, which grossed me out. I know i need to stick to my liquids, I am too afraid of developing a leak by cheating! Thanks for the words of encouragement:)

How Tired Were You In The Weeks Post-Op?
jlweb23 replied to Felicity549's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the same boat:) i have a 1 yr old, 2 1/2 yr old, and 11yr old. I flew family in to help for the first 2 weeks. I am post op day 10 today. I have stayed home alone with them for about 2 hrs so far and its hard. Only because i am not allowed to lift them, and its hard getting up and down from the floor .i felt horrible the first week. Just niw starting to feel somewhat nirmal. Chasing kids definitely makes me more sore, i had no idea that so many things require the use of your belly muscles! I am a nurse with direct patient care, so will be off 6 weeks due to lifting restrictions. Dr said after 3 weeks, I can lift the babies, which are 23 &27 pounds .
