  7. Ok.. so I have a surgery date of April 16th so my time is getting near therefore I'm really starting to think about certain "things".... I am waiting to hear back from my surgeon on this question but figured I would post it here and get some feedback. Pretty much everywhere I read Gastric Sleeve surgery removes 85% of the stomach. Well.... I guess I am a lil nervous about that. Why can't they remove maybe 60 or 70%?? It just seems very extreme to me especially since it's a permanent surgery. A lot of folks I have seen have also had a very rapid weight loss.. Some are losing 25-30lbs a month.. Are we able to choose the size of our sleeve? I really don't want to lose my extra weight that fast. In a perfect world I would like to lose 10-15lbs per month. This is really the only issue I am having at the moment. Your feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

    Surgery Date Scheduled! :)

HI there!! Good Luck with your surgery! My date is April 16th.. 5 more weeks!!
  9. Hello all.... I've been contemplating WLS for about 8 years and I am finally ready to take the leap. I have been a big girl my entire life. A 3 sport athlete in high school yet graduating weighing 230 lbs. I'm 37 now, no kids, never married and have hit the 330lb mark. I've always been the "pretty girl" and I carry my weight well (I'm 5'9 and a former plus size model). My health is still good however I'm starting to have back issues, my joints ache at times, etc.. Arthritis, Diabetes, Heart Disease and run rampant in my family and I just feel that if I don't lose a significant amount of weight my diagnosis with at least one of these ailments will be in my immediate future... Plus, I am just T I R E D of being overweight!!! Tired of sweating so easy, tired of having to use a seatbelt extender while flying, tired of looking at a booth and wondering if the seat is going to be tight, tired of being afraid of standing in a line to ride a roller coaster thinking I won't fit, etc.... I am ready to take control of my life and lose this extra weight.... My insurance has a WLS exclusion so I will be paying for the Gastric Sleeve operation myself. I have researched Dr's and have narrowed it down to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I just can't justify spending the extra to have the surgery here in the US. Plus my sister is a CRNP at Shock Trauma in Baltimore and the surgeon she works for knows Dr. Ortiz and highly recommomends him. I would appreciate any support or words of wisdom. My surgery date is April 16th. Thanks in advance!!! Emily
