I had to do that to my primary Doc sent me to nutritionist and they were nice and informative and at the end of it they had classes on the after surgery diets it was interesting. Yes I hated it counting calories etc. If I was good at this type of diet I wouldn't need surgery! I don't think I was required to loose that much in the 6mo. I just had to put in the effort so I didn't have to pay cash. The time will pass soon. Good Luck

Gas Bubbles - Help!
smileen replied to TrumpetTinklers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to use gasX which I took at first after each meal and bedtime. I still take it almost daily since surgery especially if I have refried beans or something a little spicy it really helps me. I am 12+ weeks and I feel pretty normal my stomach gets a little noisy sometimes but no more pain. I can eat what I want not as much and thats OK cause I'm not the heaviest person in the room! Keep plugging away this will pass soon. -
1 Week Postop And Having Difficulty Getting My Liquids In - Help!
smileen replied to ursiboo72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope the 15oz is not including your liquid meals cause that it not near enough you need to get close to 64oz daily. Do not let yourself get dehydrated it is the worst pain!If your not still taking pain meds maybe try tylenol liquid for pain to help the pain when drinking keep a water bottle with you at all times If your tired of plain water add crystal light in the bottle. I had gas bad before leaving hospital nurse said to get gasX which I took after meals and bedtime for a while and it really helped. At least this phase will be over soon! Good luck! just keep sipping! -

I am 3 mo. out now I can eat a little more but I always start with 1/3C. then I may add a little shredded cheese or sour cream dependin on what Im having. I eat alot of refried or other beans has protein and fills me up. Good luck!

One Week Out Update And Questions
smileen replied to WhoozisAnyway's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use a muscle milk light has 20gms protein and contains no dairy. I have not used calorie count I was told in the beginning to get 60+ protein and at least 50 carbs. other than that I don't worry bout calories. Good thing too cause I was always bad at counting them! Nut. told me to keep doin what I am doing works for me. Surgery was 1/20. -
Maybe dehydration start hitting the fluids maybe add some juice half strength If it continues contact Dr. When I had dehydration I felt dizzy and also felt very nauseated. Good Luck hope you feel better soon.

I was overwhelmed just reading your story you are so busy and have had a difficult time but you are only a month from the surgery it does take time for your body to adjust. You mentioned feeling like passing sometimes could you be having low blood sugar? have you tried a snack when this happens? Have you had blood cultures since there was an infection in your site? I feel sad you are so unhappy I hope you feel better soon. Make sure you are drinking plenty as dehydration can make you feel very sick also.

Three Days Out And I Have Questions
smileen replied to tmorgan813's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had gas really bad before leaving hosp. Nurse told me to try gasX I used it after each meal and bedtime. Really helped I couldn't do cold things for a while so I sipped 1/2 strength apple juice an broth for meals. I think we all were able to live off fat on land for awhile so don't worry if you can't get protein in right now as long as you keep sipping and don't get dehydrated. A few more days will make a big difference in how you feel. Good luck we all feel your pain. -

I had gas bad too first week took gasX with each meal and bedtime and walked and walked! I was told to strain broth off soup and use that tastes better than plain for a while cream of wheat also went down easy. My Dr. group did not recommend protien drinks at first apple juice 1/2 strength is good to but it seems the drs. are all different. Soon this part will be just a memory. Good luck.

Having A Hard Time With Easter Candy In The House
smileen replied to Michelle Wolfe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with fluffy the only person who will benefit from all that candy is the Dentist. -
I spent a very short time in pre-op room Nurse put in IV and Drs. came by. Nurse shaved around stomach area then gave me some happy juice in IV after that who cares! Surgery only took about 45min. when I woke up they took me to room I remember I was half asleep and Drs. Assistant came in told me to use the little spirometer every hour and walk as much as possible to make sure I don't get blood clots in my legs, scared the crap out of me and I started walking the next morning and every day after. I had a morphine pump first night and some pressure leg wraps to keep away blood clots. I have a vague memory of a couple shots in stomach to keep clots away I did not have very much pain went home next afternoon missed the morphine pump but pain was managable with the pain meds.

Mushy Foods For A Picky Eater...
smileen replied to missemy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I"m still trying to figure out how to get veggies in so I am interested in what you find out. Getting enough protein in seems to take all my sleeve space. I did eat alot of refried beans and other beans as they have pretty good protein with a little cheese n sour cream. I liked a baked potato with chili or sour cream on top or a sweet potato with sugar free syrup on top. -
Many people develop an intolerence for milk if you are taking protien drinks check to see if they are dairy if so tray a dairy free protien drink and try using lactaid milk. I had to do the gasX after every meal and bedtime for a while seemed to work for me. Good luck it will be easier each week!

What Were You Eating And How Much? I Need Help
smileen replied to aaeactive_gm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lack of carbs very possible I was a diabetic before the sleeve and they told me to get at least 50gm of carbs because It was easier for me to go into a ketosis metabolic state the nut. said to use juice 1/2 strength mix with water I kept that by me all time to get in my water and carbs and I felt like I was getting a treat. Good luck in a couple more weeks it will feel like a walk in the park!
