Grocery Store Melt Down..
smileen replied to jhbk2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG in 6 mo. you can eat many of these things. This morning I had breakfast with my sister and I had the special egg, bacon and pancakes I ate the egg one bacon and a few bites of pancake with sugar free syrup. This is not a typical breakfast for me but once in a while I can induge if I want. The amazing thing is I eat a little I am satisfied and 8 mo. ago I would have eaten everything probably a larger portion choice! This is not a diet we are on it's a new way of thinking, feeling, and yes we become more conscious of what we need to put in body protein, veg, then carb.but once in a while we can indulge just a little! Good luck! -
I was told not to use straws at first because we get more gas in our stomach that way and we already have plenty! she said that I could use them later. I started using them at second month the sm. ones on the side of muscle milk carton and just drank slowly has been ok for me.

Are These Symptoms Normal? - Please Help!
smileen replied to TinaMari's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have u tried GasX when I left the hospital the nurse told me about it because I already had so much gas I started taking it with meals and bedtime and it really helped me. I am 6 mo. and I still use it when I have spicy foods. Don't worry so much yet about how much you eat we all could live off the fat of the land so to speak at first and my nut. said we have back up nutrition for a while just be sure and get your 64oz -80oz of fluid and you will be ok! It will all resolve with just a little time. Good luck -
Dr. started me out taking prilosec 40mg. twice a day. When I left hospital I had a lot of gas n pain nurse said GasX would help and I start taking it with meals and at bedtime for a while helped me.Do you measure food I was told to eat no more than 1/4C. at first and use a sm. spoon chewing 25 times each bite. Nut.said if I vomited I should go back to liq. for a day then slowly add new foods. hope you feel better soon!

Need Tips On Eating Slower
smileen replied to butterbean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut. said to chew each bite 25 times. hard to do with soup! but I would count beween bites to keep from eating to fast. I still count about 20 times when I am eating out and cut meats into small bites it keeps me from finishing my meal way before everyone else and then have to watch them eat I also put fork down often and use a reg. spoon if I am eating soup instead of the big spoon they bring. -

Thanks so much for info. I am very worried of getting bald spots not just from the surgery but 2mo. after my brother age52 had stroke and died suddenly then last week my younger brother 42 had a heart attack and died. I understand stress from this type of loss can cause hair loss. I started loosing hair at 3 1/2mo. it seemed to slow down after a couple weeks but this week started to see lots when I shampoo. Oh well they say it will grow back. -
Wow so many prob. Hope you are on the road to recovery soon. My brother had that problem with sweating bad when eating he was diabetic and had an amputation the neuropathy was so bad he took strong pain pills seems the diabetes and pain meds caused him to sweat.

smileen replied to disneyteach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a female I have done 1,001 diets and the first 2 weeks always work fast mostly due to reduction in salt intake and the fluids move out quickly giving us a wonderful weight loss for the first few weeks!. Wow 53 pounds in 35 days amazing thats over a pound a day. When was the last time a long term diet did that for you? Be patient it will all work out fine. Keep up the good work! -
I lived on the refried beans but only the fat free plain ones at first many have fats and chili spices. Now I am 5mo. out I like them with salsa, cheese n sour cream!

I Drank Alot Of Broth.... Help Please!
smileen replied to Magsnlucy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my nut. to have no more than 1/3C at each meal until my 3rd month then 1/2C. so I measured it out in a bowl and eat slowly then I don't have to worry about overdoing. It was explained to me why it seems we can eat more when on liquids is that the stomach is like a funnel the fluid goes in and drains out quickly as you begin eating thicker food they will take longer to funnel out thats one of reasons not to drink with meals so it will not pass through quickly and we stay fuller longer! Good weight loss! -
Lose Stool Or Diarrhea
smileen replied to Amytequilahouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wannabe gas may be causing your nausea too are you taking a pill for gas in am like prelosec? Gasx works very well for me I had to take it with meals and at bedtime for a while. As long as you can get your fluids in and sounds like your getting protein your in better shape than some. Good luck! -

Wow you have lost ONE-HUNDRED-FIFTEEN pounds definately not a failure! congrats. You already stated the problem just a little setback time to get back on the pony and ride. We all slip back into letting emotions guide our eating but it sounds like you already have a plan stick to it. Good luck! -
I took in at the end of each meal and bedtime I was also on prilosec daily I was told to walk, walk, and walk it would help the gas work it s way out of the body. Good luck! won't last much longer.

I Can't Do This I Need Support
smileen replied to anais02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are still taking diabetic meds and reduced your calorie intake by about 1/2 you probably need to talk to primary Dr. about adjusting meds for lower calorie intake. Don't feel bad about little set back sounds like Doctor dropped the ball on this one. Good luck!! -
Byetta? Has Anyone Used It?
smileen replied to I am done mooing!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! you must feel like a pin cushion I have been type 2 diabetic for over 15yrs. and each year seems like I was taking more and more meds. My brother lost a leg to it and that was what encourgaged me to get the surgery I also have high blood pressure which I still take a low dose pill. I wish I had the courage to do this surgery when I was younger. It is such a nice feeling to be free of all the meds. Good luck to you! -
