    Why Are Prices So Different?

Oh and to answer your question about alighted me their Tijuana surgeon is Dr. Garcia (I think he is the only one there and the price sounds about right). He is one of the newer surgeons, but I have heard great things about him (for me I just rather pay a little more and have someone with more experience).

    Why Are Prices So Different?

Surgeries in Mexico are a lot cheaper because hospitals and living expenses are a lot cheaper there too and surgeons don't have to pay the ridiculous liability insurance premiums that USA doctors pay. After doing much research I decided to go with Dr. Ponce De Leon in Tijuana Mexico. Money was definetly a factor but not the only factor, it was actually the second one for me. Dr. Ponce has more experience doing the sleeve than must surgeons in the USA. The sleeve has been done in Mexico for about 7 years were the USA only approved it about 3 years ago. His complication rate is almost nonexistent and I have spoken to other Mexican medical staff including surgeons who he has taught and also performed surgeries on. There are some surgeons in Mexico that charge even cheaper, some is because of level of experience others because they might do their surgery at a stripmall clinic and recovery at a recovery house (that is definitely not for me). My surgeon does his surgeries at a fully equipped hospital and after two days you go to a hotel for one or two more days. I am very happy with my decision, good luck making yours

    What To Tell My Children?

I completely understand 17 jrs.... I have only told a very few selected friends about it. I did told my daughter and my mother (and of course my husband). My mother fricked out LOL so I had to explain everything into great detail and know that she understands she is ok with it all. There are certain people I have told (if you watch my first youtube video I talk a little bit of how I told some of my professors) but there are some I will not tell, at least not for a while after surgery. Good luck!
  6. yay!!! congrats on your first video, it was great!

    Im A May Sleever!

My surgery will be May 10th in Tijuana Mexico with dr. Ponce de leon. I will be staying in the hospital two nights post op and then two more at a nearby hospital. The length of hospital stay is anywhere from 1-3 days with most surgeons, its more about the surgeons and the patient comfort with how the patient is doing and if they rather have someone watch them closely longer. Things can always go wrong with the surgery and you might end up being there longer but for most cases is between one to three days hospitalization, this also varies depending on co-morbidities, BMI and other things. Everyone should walk the same day as soon as possible after surgery, the main reason for that is to prevent blood clots and get rid of the gas that they put in you for the surgery. I just made a youtube video talking about blood clots that you might find interesting. Best of luck!

    What To Tell My Children?

My daughter is 14 and my little sister is 12. I shared with them both what I am doing, as a matter of fact my daughter watches my youtube videos and is very supportive. She is also a lot more mature than most kids her age, I would had told her about it if she was only 10 also. So I agree that how much you can tell your children depends on their maturity level. It might be sufficient to let your child know you are having surgery to help you become healthier, so you can have more energy to do things with them. I would recommend you not to lie to them, but only tell them some of the information and let them ask questions then answer their questions honestly (you can also mark with a marker the areas of the stomach where the surgery will take place and let them know how small the cuts will be). If you lie and they find out they might loose trust on you and they might assume it must be a very bad thing since you are lying about it. Good luck!

Any April Sleevers From Ft Worth/dallas?

Hi Cynthia congrats! I am in southwest fort worth and I am having surgery on May 10 with Dr. Ponce De Leon in Tijuana Mexico! I need a support group too locally. I went to the baylor one here and it was ok but no one other than the presenter talked so I don't think it was much of a support group. Who is your surgeon?

Changeable Ticket For The Trip Home?

I bought my ticket on priceline and they had some type of protection that you could buy in case you could not make any of your flights (if that was the case your doctor just needs to give you a note) that was only an extra $16 so I paid it and its worth my piece of mind I think.

    Welcome To My World...

I don't know any surgeons in Europe but know great ones in Mexico (central America). I have done a lot of research on the different types of surgeries and decided that the sleeve is best for me. The sleeve is pretty new but has showed great effects, and I have never heard of it changing persons personality for the worse, on the contrary. Plication is too new to know what the real benefits and complications are. It took me a long time and an enormous amount of research to decide on the sleeve. Has for Ghremlin, the hormone itself was not discovered until 1999. I am planning on doing some more research on it next week and will be making a video on youtube with my findings next weekend. Good luck on your journey!

    Egd

Amy I believe only with certain patients is required, for example patients with prior bariatric surgeries, GERD or other problems. It also varies from doctor to doctor and what they feel comfortable with. I have read in some medical journals that it's not really nessesary unless you are in a higher risk group like some of the ones mentioned above. My doctor does not require me to have one but does require people with the above mention problems to have it. For your piece of mind you might want to ask him why he does not require it . Best of luck!

No Weight Lost On 2 Week Pre-Op Diet

I am sorry to hear about your experience Asche, hang in there! I am sure you know that the stress of the upcoming surgery can trigger and early ovulation and many other changes in your body. If you used to drink a lot of coffee and now don't drink much or any you could be retaining water, also check your sodium intake. I know that for me when I first significantly cut my caloric intake I either don't loose weight or I gain weight! It's like my body refuses to let go of the fat! That normally stops after a few days. Hang in there and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

    Preop And Fatigue?

I have not had my preop yet but I heard from many people here and on YouTube that vitamin B12 shots help that feeling a lot! (the under the tongue ones should work well too). Make sure you are taking musty vitamins and such. I think the fatigue is normal since your body is used to running on sugars but now is having to convert protein to fuel so it takes some adjustment. You might also want to consult your surgeon and /or dietitian. Good luck and congrats on your upcoming surgery!
  23. I could not agree more with what has already been said. Just know that we are all here for you regardless. It did made me think of my cold feet as my wedding date approached 4 years ago, in every major life decision is normal to second guess yourself. This is a major life changing decision that only you can make, best of luck!
