Raising Calorie Intake To Break A Stall
sgarelick posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read in several posts that some people actually need to increase their calorie intake in order to break a stall. Seems counterintuitive to, can someone explain? -
I'm six days post op and am having real difficulty getting in my liquids. My abdomen feels so full and extended and I can barely take more than a few sips at a time. Even when I can take a sip I almost always have gas pain and end up belching. I'm probably not getting more than 20 oz of fluids in a day. Any suggestions?

Just go back from TJ yesterday and never once felt unsafe or saw any type of violence.

I'm flying out today for surgery with Dr. Garcia tomorrow. Wish me luck! -
What type of follow ups have those of you who've had your surgery done in Mexico done? I live on the east coast so certainly can't go back to Mexico for follow ups. I'm a little scared to say anything to my primary care physician before I have the surgery since I don't know what her reaction will be both about me having the surgery and also in my choice of where to have it. Any thoughts?

My preop diet has been pretty easy. I have a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch and then a salad with protein for dinner. I only need to do this for seven days and so far, it's been pretty easy. Was that what you're pre-op diet was? Which hotel did you stay at? I'm scheduled to be at the Marriott. Might ask to be "relocated" to the hotel with the Casino in it (-; Some of the post-op instructions I got were a little confusing. How long did you stay on Clear liquids before you moved to full liquids? In one place it says clear liquids for two weeks and then in another I think it says clear liquids for 1-2 days after surgery. -

I'd love any tidbits you have as well as I'm having my surgery on 3/30 -
Just wondering if the pain post opt is more from the incisions and excess gas in the stomach or from the stomach (organ) itself? Does the stomach organ have pain nerves?

Hi there, I've been reading this forum for weeks now and have found some wonderful information about VSG surgery. I am a 49 year old male, 5'7" and currently weigh 226lbs (at my highest, I was around 260) with a BMI of 35.4. I've been heavy all of my life and have yo-you dieted for as long as I can remember. Being heavy affects every aspect of my life as I'm sure all of you know. My self esteem has never been very high and I've always thought about some type of WLS but never really thought it was feasible/doable for someone with my BMI. After reading so many posts on this site, I now think that a VSG would be a good alternative for me but am concerend about what my friends and family would think. Their stock response is always "just watch what you eat and excericse". I've tried this off and on for so many years and obviously it's not working for me. So what do you guys think. Is VSG surgery right form someone like me?

Hello everyone, I've been reading a lot of posts that talk about people gaining weight after a VSG surgery which sounds a little surprising to me. It would seem to me that since you are so restricted and can only eat a few ounces of food at a stting that you'd have to eat really horribly to gain weight. Are those people who are gaining weight eating candy, milkshakes and other fatteing foods all the time? Just don't see how you can gain weight on such a small amount of food. --Steve

I too am a "lightweight" with a BMI of 35 and am seriously considering having this surgery with Dr. Garcia. It's not an easy decision and of course, my friends and family think I'm crazy. Thanks for all the great information you all have posted about Dr. Garcia. Did any of you talk to him directly before your surgery? It feels so strange scheduling all of this over the phone and via email. --Steve -
Thank you all so much for your words of encouragement. Life changing is exaclty what I'm looking for. I guess it's too much to expect people that haven't been heavy all of their lives to understand the emotional toll it takes on us. I just want to stop worrying about my weight every second of the day and start enjoying life to it's fullest. I have contacted Dr. Garcia in Mexico and am waiting to hear back from his office. Hopefully it will be soon and I can move on with the next phase of my life.
