    4-Days Post Op - Dizzy!

I would think it could be related to a blood sugar level that is much lower than what your body is used to.

What Exactly Is Considered Clear Liquids ?

Medically speaking clear liquids are exactly that ............. anything that is clear (meaning you can see through it) and is liquid or will become liquid when melted. Jell-o but not pudding, Popcicles but not the fruit bars or ice cream bars, You get the idea.

    First Appointment With The Surgeon

Dina, Don't you mean the BEST Bank. I'm from the first (1971) graduating class of O. Perry Walker. I am required to have 3 months of nutritional counseling. I am planning on a mid july sleeve.

    Hives

I doubt that you are having a reaction to anything associated with your procedure this far out. I think you said you were 6 weeks post sleeve. I definitely don't think it is remotely related to acid reflux. Try boosting your zinc intake to see it the hives resolve. A lady I work with was having issues with hives at random times, and allergy testing did not find an allergen. Labs finally showed very low zinc levels. Once she increased her zinc the hives began to abate.

    Emotional Over Eating.

Nope, no unions for nurses, at least not in most states. No water or anything at the nurses station where I work either. If you think about it, even the nurses stations are pretty germy. Even if you are anal about handwashing, your co-workers might not be.
  10. Personally I would not get in water till my incisions were totally healed. I definitely would not immerse my body in the ocean with the potential of a bacterial contamination. I would not trust a bandaid to be leak proof. The sacrifice of waiting a few extra days is nothing compaired to a post surgical wound infection.

5 Days Post Op Terrible Rash

Almost all opiod narcotics can cause histamine. This is an adverse reaction not a true allergy and is usually localized at the injection site. http://www.epmonthly.com/whitecoat/2008/11/narcotic-allergies/

    Padded Panties. Help!

OMG thanks to all of you for making me smile. Losing my derriere is probably the one thing I never have to worry about. I'd gladly donate if I could.
  13. Sally, you still need to find someone to help you determine if your goals are realistic. Please talk to your surgeon, get some counseling, you can not fight this depression alone.
  14. Sally I have to agree with the other posters. I think you need more support than the members of this forum can provide. I also think you need to meet with someone face to face on a individual level. I would talk to my surgeon immediately and perhaps someone other than the person who provided your psych consult. As a health care professional I honestly do not think you were emotionally ready for this procedure and need some help as soon as posibble to prevent a further downward spiral.
  15. If you know you are a difficult intubation make sure you let your anesthesia provider know up front. Many hospitals have fiberoptic laryngoscopes that make the intubation so much smoother. Waking up or having recall of events that occur during surgery is VERY rare. It occurs in maybe 1-2 patients per 10000. It is called anesthesia awareness. Please don't confuse general anesthesia with concious sedation. Two totally different levels of sedation used under different circumstances and it is not unusual to recall vaguely events during consious sedation.

    I'm New! :)

I found this blog on pinterest.com today. You may want to check it out. http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/
  17. As I explained on a prior post I am a registered nurse. I currently work in the pre op holding area of a fairly large hospital. I have worked in the PACU (recovery room) for most of my 35 years in nursing. In all those years I have personally only witnessed 2 deaths in the PACU. Both patients were extremly high risk. I do suggest that you discuss your fears with your surgeon and attending anesthesia provider if you really feel strongly and have a real fear you will die. Realistically you stand a higher chance of getting killed in a car accident on the way to the hospital than you do of dying following WLS. I do not mean to sound cold or callous, just want to state the facts.
  18. I'm a registered nurse and have worked in several endoscopy units. I have only seen a handful of people have and EGD cold turkey without any sedation other than a spray to knock out the gag reflex. Most EGD's are done with moderate sedation using a narcotic and a sedative hypnotic like versed. Propofol is administered by either CRNA's or Anestheologist only in Texas. It is against the nurse practice act for nurses to give it for procedural sedation here. I have never seen a facility allow a patient to drive home or go home in a cab without someone else in attendance to look after them. The hospital would assume a huge libility either way. You actually should not drive for 24 hours following the sedation, you would be considered to be impaired and could be charged with DUI.

    I'm New! :)

It is body fortress super advanced whey Protein. I bought it at Walmart. I think it was 18 dollars and has 26 grams of protein (140 calories) per scoop and you can use either 1 or 2 scoops. I mixed 1scoop in 8 ounces of cold Water, though it says you can mix it with milk. I did not anticipate liking it and figured since I need to get as much protein in as I can at 26 grams per scoop it was a decent bang for the buck.

    I'm New! :)

Hi Sarah, I'm new too! I have not yet seen my surgeon officially but I know him well as I worked with him several years ago when I worked at a hospital that specialized in WLS but did not provide the benefit for employees. Go figure... At least I know I am approved to have the procedure with my current employer. Anyway, I've got my appointment set for 3/31/12. My insurance requires 3 sessions of nutritional counselling over 3 months and a psych evaluation. The good news is, I only have to meet the $400 deductible and pay 20% for the surgeon and psych eval. The hospital and nurtitional consults will be covered at 100%. I am looking at a total out of pocket of around $1000 or so give or take. I don't know when all the other testing is going to be done, it will all fall into place after I see the doctor. I think the one thing I was worried about most was tolerating the Protein drinks. I bought my first whey Protein powder tonight and discovered I liked the flavor. chocolate Peanut Butter. But then again I like any thing with Peanut Butter.
