I just went to my surgeon's office for a follow-up and was very pleasantly surprised! That neat little scale gizmo that he has that also calculates your BMI, water, fat and muscle ratio provided me with some great information. According to my scale I had only lost about 9 pounds since my last visit 2 months ago. The scale at the doctor's office agreed with my weight loss numbers but the doctor told me that I had actually lost 15 pounds of FAT, while gaining 6 additional pounds of muscle, even though my weight loss was 9 pounds. My point is this... while I thought I had hit a stall, my body just fooled me into thinking I had stalled while it kept whittling away at the bad stuff (you know, the "F" word...FAT!) So, take heart, you losers, we're going to make it yet!

I couldn't tolerate protein shakes right after surgery, either. I'm almost 3 months out now and I can drink them again, YEA! I was trying to choke down those awful protein shots and they are ghastly! I usually use Premier (Costco, 30 gr. protein) and I've heard that the Muscle Milk is good, too.

After Surgery - How Long Before You Feel Back To Normal?
topgun replied to ConnieSings's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
\ I couldn't agree more with the above answer. 3 weeks minimum. Don't be your worst enemy like I did and not take in enough water and protein... it is miserable. Best of luck! -
Fried pork rinds! NO carbs (none!), 80 calories per serving and 7 grams of protein, too.

A few days out I would drink almost anything that tastes good! Leaning too heavily towards no-calorie drinks will cause you to not have any energy because you're probably eating very little food. I was an apple juice junkie for a while and it really helped me. (BTW, I'm 102 pounds down from my original weight so I must be doing something right!).

Just Wondering About Tijuana...
topgun replied to Tia Noel's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Not so. I've been there many, many times. You may occasionally get some pesos in small change but their value s so minimal you can just take them home for souvenirs. For example, a 50 centavo (cent) piece is worth about a nickle, 10 centavos are worth about a penny. If it's important to you, just tell them you do not want any pesos and they will oblige. -

Don't bother exchanging money. Probably more dollars spent in TJ than pesos, anyway, because of the tourist trade. -
Why not? The corn tortilla doesn't get mushy like the flour ones and the rest of the ingredients (cheese, chicken, beef, etc) are fine. One question is can you tolerate the spiciness? I've eaten Mex. food regularly since being sleeved 2 1/2 mos ago without problems.

How Long Do I Need To Take Off From Work?
topgun replied to 136HereICome's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
3 weeks. You need to get used to your sleeve. You will have very reduced energy for at least 3 weeks. Don't rush it. I did and I really regretted it. -
At 7 days post op you are going to be too weak to enjoy the trip and, health-wise, I don't think it would be advisable. Your family will understand... take care of yourself first and avoid problems later.

I eat them all the time. I can't eat a lot of them, they don't slide on thru like watermelon. They won't hurt anything. Watch for acid, tho. Enjoy!

It is definitely slider food. I'll eat a bowl of it because it's low in calories, high in water content and I feel better when I can finally eat a quantity of something.

Very Tired & Low Energy - 10 Days Post-Op
topgun replied to trojanchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Expect a big improvement after 3 weeks. Stay with your fluids! -
Crackers are okay, as far as I'm concerned. They're pretty much slider food for me cuz they mush down to nothing.

Me too.

Surgery June 4Th Leaving For Vacation On June 16Th?
topgun replied to tlaff79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep your plans restful ones. You are not going to be 100% 2 weeks out. Make SURE you drink plenty of fluids if you don't do anything else because dehydration will drop you in your tracks. Now, the good news... you should be okay going, but. like I said, don't try to climb the Swiss Alps or anything...rest. -

You can count on it for at least 3 weeks. After that it gets way better provided you stay hydrated and up on our protein.

Running Out Of Steam During Exercise - What Is The Reason?
topgun replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Fluids. Dehydration will drag you down so fast you won't know what hit you. I'm just back from my 3rd trip to the infusion clinic for IV fluids. I know first hand how rotten you feel and what an absolute lack of energy you have when dehydrated. Once your fluids are low it takes days and days to build them back up by just drinking more. Call your doc and he will arrange fluids for you if that's what you need. It sure sounds like it. Good luck and, BTW, I envy your exercise regime! -
My personal opinion? If you are having a hard time eating, I would eat anything that appeals to you. You are eating so little that calorie counting is probably a non-issue. You have to fuel your body with something, even if it isn't the healthiest thing in the world. Later on you can become more choosy. Keep up with fluids and do your best w/ protein. Good luck!

Unjury sample packs first. I didn't care for it despite all the rave reviews. Protein shots are okay because even if they don't taste good, they usually are just a few ounces. Isopure? I don't have an opinion on that. Best of luck.

WTG... I loved your post and I can really relate to it. My latest NSV is the most memorable of my life. For the first time I can ever recall, I am no longer considered "obese." My BMI just went below 30.0 so I am now (temporarily) just "overweight." The Love-Hate Meter on my sleeve just went a couple of notches upward towards the Love side.

Boy, do I hear you! I think I miss just the act of eating a "good" meal, not so much specific foods (but a big chunk of prime rib sure sounds good). We have no choice but to make the best of it and make lemonade out of the lemons. At best, I guess we face a max capacity of around 1 to 1/2 cups way down the line. Even that seems a little far-fetched in light of the fact that I can only eat about 1/3 cup of food at a time comfortably. Sigh.... I'm glad that I'm losing all this weight and all, but I might have had a change of heart about the surgery had I thought long and hard about this. But, like I said, I'm glad I went through with it.

Did Anybody Have Anemia Before Going Into Surgety?
topgun replied to lailabrownskinned's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've been slightly anemic for a long time and it had no effect on me before or after surgery. -
It sounds like dehydration to me because I went thru it twice. Call your doctor. If it is dehydration, he can arrange for you to be infused with fluids. Immediate relief! If you don't do the IV thing, it will take you 3-4 days of gorging yourself on liquids in order to get back to normal. Why wait?
