    New Month, New Beginnings

Good luck to you! Check in when you feel up to it and let us know how you're doing.
  2. Your weight is melting off. 18 pounds in 2 weeks is 9 pounds a week which is awesome. Know though, it will not continue at that pace. It will slow down so don't be alarmed when it does. Follow your doctor's plan and you will lose weight. Good luck to you on your journey!

In My 9Th Day On My Pre-Op Liquid Diet

Hang in there KayKay20! I know it is rough, but you can resist. Remember, this is only temporary and one day before you know it, you will be eating that BBQ chicken. As far as cheating, yes people do it. I did it and truth be told, I bet a lot of people did. The diet is to shrink your liver and carbs are what stop that process. My several "cheats" were always Protein and my physician still said my liver looked awesome and he could tell I really followed the diet. What he didn't know didn't hurt him or me either for that fact. Now, for cheating postop. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT DO IT!!! Cheating after they cut the entire length of your stomach is messing with danger. It could cause a leak which would be detrimental to your health or worse. Good luck on your journey and come here as often as necessary for support!

I'm very sorry for your loss Kimberly but glad your father is not suffering any longer. Peace be with you during this difficult time.

    How Much Weight?

People lose at varying rates. There are a lot of factors that play into how much weight a person will lose and over what time period so try not to compare too much. I know it is hard, but it can bring you down if you see someone losing faster than you. That being said, I lost 6.8 my first week. Good luck to you on your journey!
  8. I struggle with this too. As a matter of fact, I just did it after reading the 5.71 average above. It's so hard not too especially when your weight loss slows or stalls.

    Anyone Regret It?

No regrets here either. Tomorrow, I will be 8 weeks out. Early on, I had some "regrets" but really those times were when my pain wasn't under control. I wish I would've done this years ago.

    First Step Taken...

Welcome to VST and the world of VSG. You've come to a great place. Make yourself welcome and read as much as you can. You will learn a lot. Congrats on taking your first step. I look forward to following your journey.

    Food Funeral For Real!

I think it is very common. I ate everything in sight , and a lot of it, before my preop diet started.

    Surgeon Says No...

I agree with getting a second opinion. Just because one doctor doesn't think you should have it doesn't mean another doctor will too.
  13. I weigh every morning. If you do that though you have to take what you see with a grain of salt, so to speak. You may wake up one morning and see you "gained" 3 pounds because your body can fluctuate like that. On the flip side, you may wake up and see you "lost" 3 pounds too. If you think about it, you can't lose or gain 3 pounds overnight without extreme exercise or eating. It really is fluctuations in your body. I wish I could weigh just once a week, but I just can't seem to hold out.

    Help!

I think you are on the right track with what you did today. I did close to the same thing and lost 14 on my preop diet. Good luck to you.
  15. I think a lot of us felt like you do now. I know I did. As others have said, wait until you get to solids. Especially meat. I had a cookout the other day at work and got a hamburger patty with a slice of cheese and no bun. Just the meat and cheese. I'm 7 weeks out and was only to eat about 1/4 to 1/3 of it along with two small bites of beans and one small bite of coleslaw.
  16. Goof luck! Check in when you can after surgery and let us know how you are doing.

To Tell Or Not To Tell?

I think you should tell only who you want to tell. My immediate family knows but none of my extended family does. I've told a few close friends and some coworkers. Other coworkers now know though as people can't keep their mouth shut. At first it bothered me but now it doesn't. Probably because they've all been supportive. Anyway, my point there is to be careful because some people you tell may tell others even of you ask them not to. Good luck in your journey.
  18. Yep. Another vote for completely normal. I'm now almost 8 weeks out and have been able to gulp water since early on. My sleeve also let's me eat pretty much anything I want so long as I don't overdo it. There are some things I haven't had yet though but so far so good for everything I've tried.

    Main Incision Pain

When you go back to work, please wear a Spanx like compression garment. The intense pain I called my doctor crying about 3 weeks out was after I went back to work. I was told its not uncommon for pain to increase after going back to work due to the increased activity. The Spanx like compression garment helped me tons. Keep me posted.

    Main Incision Pain

At this point, I think you are just going to have to give it time. I know, not the answer you want to hear. A lot of people have little to no pain issues. You are like me where you are having a ton of it. I truly know how you feel! I called my doctor's office in tears 3 1/2 weeks out because I was in so much pain. "Magically" on the day of the anniversary of my 4th week, I woke up pain free and have been ever since. I felt like such a baby for having so much pain with VSG. I'd been told by more than one doctor in the past that I had a high tolerance for pain and this surgery made me feel like a weenie! Do you still have prescription pain meds? If so, use them. If not, call your doctor and get some more. You should not have to live in pain and the pain meds help. Hang in there dear! I know this is rough and it feels like it will never get better. I promise it will though in time. If you need someone to talk to in real time who understands, send me a pm with your phone number and I'll be happy to call you. I know how defeating this can feel right now!
