    Birth Control Pills

My nurse told me to stop my BC 2 weeks before the surgery and to stay off it at least one month after surgery to avoid blood clots.

    Nervous About Going Under

I have been fine since the surgery. I was kept a couple extra days because I developed a fever and my heart rate was elevated but it ended up being nothing. My throat was a little sore and scratchy after surgery, I wasn't able to talk that clearly, but that soon faded away in a few hours. I too have asthma and I do think it may have had something to do with the fever (fever caused by mucus not leaving the lungs which leads to pnemonia). I just asked for an albuteral treatment and the respiratory dept came and beat on my back to lossen the mucus. Must have work because my fever went away after the treaments. Two weeks out and I still do have some soreness near my port area and I do develope cramps on my right side where the port is when I over exert myself. Spoke with the nurse and they said that was normal. I got real tired of the full liquid diet and am completely over purees. Lol.

    Nervous About Going Under

I was afraid to go under as well. My surgery was on March 1st. I was fine with the surgery and believed that my surgeon knew what he was doing (he is the head person of the program after all). But with my size I was worried that there would be complications. On the day of the surgery, I expressed my concerns to my anesthesiologist when he arrived to introduce himself. Once he finally found a vein, mine are difficult, he inserted an IV. Once that was in, my anxiety got worse so they ended up giving me something to calm me down. That worked.....for like 5 minutes and then I was freaking out again. The nerves reached a major high once they wheeled me into the prep room where I met my other anesthesiologist (the fact that I had 2 did not help the anxiety). So while the second guy was talking to me, someone was putting on my leg massagers, and the first anesthesiologist was fiddling with my IV. All I know is one moment I was answering questions and the next I woke up in recovery. I kinda felt cheated out of the experience. I wanted to do the whole "breath deep and count down from 100"...I know...I'm weird. So the moral to this story is there is nothing to worry about. It is a very uneventful experience.

    March Bandsters!

Hello everyone. I was banded March 1st. I must say that I did have a "last meal" before I started my pre-op diet. I went to Texas Roadhouse and got my steak and potatos. Lol. I had to stay a couple extra days in the hospital due to a fever. No fun. Please make sure you walk and use the spirometer becaus they will make you stay. And I also found out in the hospital that I cannot have hot tea... found that out the hard way. Now I am officially 2 weeks post op and am starting on puree foods. Can't wait to have mash potatos again. I was getting real tired of of drinking my meals. Anyway congrats to all who have been banded and to those who have bands to come!!
