    May Bandsters!

I do feel a stuck feeling if I eat too fast, I can actually feel the food squeezing through. I know I can eat anything, but I am still trying to stick to the plan and my calories. I ate cheese one day and because of the consistency of it, it was low going down. I get filled on the 25th and looking forward to that!

    Liver?

My surgeon did not require a liquid diet. They said they just don't do it. I ate healthy for 3 months prior to my surgery and two weeks prior I did 1000 calorie diet. The key is that your liver is not full of fat. I was even waived from doing that becasue I was already counting calories and was doing 1200 calories. The pre op diet for us was designed for people who eat a lot of fat and high calorie food to start getting used to eating differently. The fact that none of my doctors patients had to do a liquid diet, Proves that every doctor is different. Whatever your surgeon says, do your research and unless it sounds totally crazy, you have to follow what they say. I can't say I missed that liquid diet, I did fine with what I did. Good luck!

    May Bandsters!

My incisions itched for awhile. I'm now on mushy food, my swelling has gone down and I have discovered that I no longer have to drink slowly, I think I can eat anything with little restriction, although I have not tried anything. But yesterday ate much more than I should be able. Right now fell like I don't have a band at all. First fill is on June 25th, gotta be careful.
  5. I told my family and close friends and a few coworkers. Everyone was very supportive, but I am already getting side comments. When people try to make little comments that are supposed to be humor, but they are not. I am at the point where I don't care, but that was a process. I will tell anyone who I think it will help in the future, but for now, only those closest to me know. I am not ashamed, but it's personal private decision and I'm not advertising because it is nobody's business. But I did not tell anyone while I was deciding. I only told people after I had decided I was doing it. I did not want any influence.

    Restriction Question

So is it the restriction that helps you not feel hungry? I'm confused on that one. I just had surgery 2 weeks ago and I just got my hunger back yesterday. I am transitioning to mashies and I ate today. It was weird I felt full, as though i was full on top of the band, but my stomach was still growling and felt empty in the bottom. Does that make any sense? It did not satisfy my hunger and I was very frustrated, but I could, not eat anymore.

How Many Calories Do You Eat ?

Glad to know others count calories too. I have to or I will be totally unaware of what I eat. Today was my first day able to eat 1,000 calories. I'm not comfortable eating anything less than 800 calories. I just don't think it is healthy in the long run. Not judging anyone else, but for me, I need to know I'm getting in my nutrition.

    Time Off Of Work

I'm a teacher and am doing two weeks. Planned only a week, but there was no way I was ready to go back.

    Cream Of Wheat

I can eat cream of wheat until the mushy stage. You don't want your stomach to be doing much work at this stage. Be careful.

Oh Well - So Much For That

Hang in there. Timing is everything. If it is meant to be for you, it will happen! Not now does not mean never! In the meantime, work hard, maybe you won't need this at all and if you do, the option will still be around later. I know it is discouraging, but don't lose hope.

    May Bandsters!

Wow already walking that far, good for you. I was banded may 14th and am still struggling with gas, day 10 of that now, awful! But I am Prone to digestion issues so it will take longer for me. I ate some beans which I love, but never again! At least not for awhile. Disappointed because I we depending on them for protien, but of course the gas pains were terrible after that.

    May Bandsters!

Just ate 1/2 cup of refried beans! I am super excited. I added some water to loosen it up. I hate that food gets cold because I am taking so long to eat. I go on mushers on Monday, my dic said to try one mushy per day prior to see if I can tolerate it. So I had 1/4 cup applesauce and then the beans. No issues. I also felt my first hunger pain today, a good sign that I am healing on the inside so says my doctor. Hoping the food I eat satisfies. I've read do many stories of hunger, sounds like it is my turn now!
  13. The worst is gas pains which I found out today I have been drinking too quickly. Everything else wa not bad really, just slow moving around, but today I felt a little more pep in my step.

    Bad, Negative Attitude

I admire those of you who have families to cook for and stick to your plan. I am single so i can put all my energy into myself. I agree with everyone else. Itmisnhard to change our mindset, but it's a great time to start. I had to realize that fear of failing is exactly what made me fail in the past. But then I also learned to look at my past failures differently. Failing would mean never having the courage to keep trying. Nobody that has chosen surgery is a failure becasue this sure takes a lot of courage. You could have just given up and said I'll just be fat. The fact that you are still trying makes you an overcomes, not a failure. I am 10 days post op and suffered from a little buyers remorse the days I felt so bad. But I'm just reminding myself why I did this. This phase is a healing diet. Liquids are not going to fill you up and get rid of hunger, but will allow your body to heal. Think of it like that and try to increase your protien if you have not done so. Like someone else said, use this time to eat more of the things the doc said yo can have. Like I have had more Popsicles than I can count! I would never eat all that sugar normally, but right now I'm concentrating on healing and there is no way I can over eat becasue my body just can't stand it. Good luck to you!
  15. I can't wait to eat eggs
  16. I was allowed to eat all those things on the liquid food stage. Makes a difference in the hunger I think. I have had thick soups and anything I can liquefy!
  17. Everyone check out the may bandsters thread under the pre op section. There is a lot of good conversation there from those of us all banded this month.
  18. I was may 14th as well. I'm actually not hungry I think due to the swelling and i have suffered from terrible gas for the last 8 days. When your stomach hurts, food is not a thought. When you get hungry that is a sign it's time to move to the next stage, that is what my doc says. Can you add some calories or protien. Are you getting enough? Check out the may bandsters thread under the pre op section if you have not done so already. There is great conversation there all from people banded this month.
  19. I noticed mine changed too, I'm an addict now!

    May Bandsters!

So I had my first visit to the doc since surgery. I am 10 days post op and was concerned at the HORRIBLE gas I'm having, so much so that I have sharp stabbing pains in my side and neck especially whe I lay down. So on my visit they are asking me a bunch of questions and come to find out the directions for how to drink were printed wrong in my nutrition book! So I had just progressed too fast to drinking too much at one sitting, which actually contributed to my own gas issues. Wow! So here is my question, how long does it take everyone to drink say a cup of liquid? I have to return to sipping an ounce every 15 minutes which means drinking all day!
