You could ask for a scopolamine patch, it will help with motion sickness, and nausea. You put it behind your ear, and its good for 3 days. My surgeon routinely orders them for all sleeve patients to help with post op nausea.

4mydogs....try using a heating pad on your belly. For me that really helped with that deep pain on the left side. I, too, was quite uncomfortable for almost 4 weeks after surgery. I always found myself doing too much, and by night time, boy I really needed the heating pad. Good luck, hang in there.

Good question. My insurance has a WLS exclusion and won't ever cover anything related to it. So if I need my gallbladder out later, they won't pay. But, I haven't told my PCP yet, so it not in my record yet. I'm thinking about never saying anything...

You probably need to be on a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) like nexium, prilosec or protonix. You can get prilosec over the counter, they even have generic. Zantac is an acid reducer and just doesn't always work as well as a PPI. You have to take PPI daily and sometimes it takes 2-3 days to start working.

Anyone Getting Sleeved On March 12 ?
5DoxieMom replied to LaceyD's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow! Pixie...42 lbs, Meli.....44 lbs, that's awesome. I'm down only 19. 17 the first month, and a whopping 2 lbs last month. I'm sticking to the rules, and I have very few carbs, no sugar. I use my treadmill for about 45 min a day, and doing yard work, gardening, etc almost everyday after work. I feel no different than I did before surgery, except that I can't eat much. I'm just a slow loser. Prior to surgery, I was maintaining 222 lbs on 1200 calories a day, so it's no wonder I have to be at 700-800 cals to lose. But, I know it HAS to come off, I just have to be patient. I guess I need to sign up for a water aerobics class or something, but I live in such a small town, I would run into people I know, ugh! Great to hear from you guys. -
Coops and Star....you are so lucky to have found the loves of your lives. For me, I spent 18 years with a man who I thought I would learn to love. He was after all, a hard worker, ehtical, easy to get along with, and he was crazy about me.... for the first 9 or 10 years. Then the resentment started to build and we both became miserable. My point....I don't know either....except, you've got to be crazy about someone at the beginning, because it does not get easier, or better with time, if it didn't start out wonderful.

I Feel So Down On My Birthday! !
5DoxieMom replied to chasitybeatty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A friend of mine, when she was about 2 weeks out, popped a deep internal suture, from too doing too much, too fast. She was in pain for a few weeks, but healed OK. I also remember reading a post about a month ago, where the same thing happened to another person. Although I agree with Pookey's post, that pain may be an indication of something serious, there is also the chance, that it is not. -
Unsuccessful...
5DoxieMom replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 3/12/12. I had no complications. I am at 9 weeks out now, and have only lost 19 lbs. I still do not regret having the surgery, and can't think of anything that should have been done differently. I just hope that my weight loss will pick up again, I am following all of my doctor's guidelines. I was self pay, so kind of expensive to be still 63 lbs away from my goal! -
From my experience, if you don't really love someone today, you'll have a hard time even liking them tomorrow. The little things that irritate you can build into full blown resentment, and that can be toxic to a relationship. You need to get professional help to work through this, or move on. Best of luck to you.

Wow you guys are doing great with your weight loss. I'm down 19 lbs since 3/12. Only 2 lbs in the last 4 weeks. Its very discouraging.

All those gurgling sounds are typical. Try a heating pad on your belly.

Self Pay: Is It All That It Seems?
5DoxieMom replied to txdee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was self pay. It was 12,000 for surgeon, anethesiologist, out patient surgery center. On top of that there was a 500 fee for nutrition class (what a joke, about 45 min), then 175 for psych eval. After surgery, the leak test and radiologist fee for reading that test came to about 300. All of these fees were printed out on a sheet of paper prior to surgery. I didn't have any fees that I wasn't expecting. There were also labs, but I got my PCP to order them, so my insurance paid for them. Most blood work runs between $65-$95. -
Do You Hate Protein Powder/liquids?
5DoxieMom replied to Back~To~Amy's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
And in the Costco coupon book that starts May 10, there's a $5.00 off coupon for the premier RTD. (limit 2) -
My surgeon consult fee got waived, when I paid my nutrition class $500 and psych eval 175. (what a joke those were).

For me, the pain in my left side, in that real deep internal suture was sore for almost 4 weeks.

Weight Loss Shots
5DoxieMom replied to bethany1987's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to take those shots weekly along with daily pills as part of a weight loss program years ago (at least 15-20). I lost weight, lots of it, but of course it came back. I wouldn't go there again. If your sleeve isn't enough, and you're looking for additional help, I'd check out qnexa. It won't be approved until July specifically for weight loss, but the 2 drugs that are combined to make it ARE available now, and have been in use for a long time. Some people are getting their doctors to order those 2 drugs (phentermine and toprimate). -

Please Help I Don't Know What I'm Doing Wrong!
5DoxieMom replied to Sonoradgrl63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Brenda, I too was sleeved on March 12, here in Oregon. I have only lost 19 lbs so far. 15 the first 3 weeks, 2 the next 4 weeks. I was not measuring my water prior to Monday.....I figured I was drinking enough. Monday I started measuring out a full 64 oz and got it in 2 days in a row, and this morning I was down 2 lbs! Really try to stay away from sugar and white carbs....its literally poison, and I think very addicting. I'm drinking the premier protein from Costco every morning (its the only one I can choke down), and if I have a craving for something sweet, I eat 1/2 of a protein bar. C'mon, hang in there with me. I know for me, this is my final attempt (cuz I'm old), and it WILL work, and I'm going to make sure of it. I believe it will for you, too. Ellen -
I Want Starbucks! Help
5DoxieMom replied to Jenpooh21's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I read a recipe on this site a few months back where someone took 1/2 a chocolate shake and 1/2 a vanilla shake (premier brand, ready to drink), then put it in the blender with a couple ice cubes and a teaspoon or 2 of instant coffee.....I never tried it, but it sounds good. -
I would eat the regular or all natural PB, if you look at the label of the reduced fat one, there's a bunch of junk in there that can't be good for you, and there's really not that fewer calories.....that's what Dr. Oz says anyway!
-
Underwires didn't bother me. Prior to my surgery, I had read on this site to wear a bra with no underwires after surgery for the swallow test....because if your bra has underwires you have to take it off. Thats the only thing I recall reading regarding underwires.
