    Bowel Movements After Surgery.

I did and I started to put a scoop of benefiber in my morning protein shake. This took care of the problem. I still have a protein shake for breakfast everyday and add the benefiber. I am not a little over 3 months out. This keeps me regular, gives me a meal with protein and also not a lot of calories. This give me more to have during the day.

    Weaning Off Anti-Depressants?

Sounds like you need to go back to your doctor. I have been on several different ones over the years and some did nothing or very little to change my depression.

    5 Days Out Of Surgery

I agree.....the first week for me was all liquids and jello. I did not have any crackers for about 2 months. I am also wondering if you did not get a diet plan from your surgeon or your NUT.

    Clear Liquid Confusion?

I had my surgery in Tijuana on a Monday and I flew back to Iowa on Friday. I did not have any protein shakes or milk products until I got back home. All I had while in Mexico was water, gatorade, popsicle, jello, and chicken broth.

    Straws

Fluids are fluids. I say if the straw is not causing you problems with excess gas in your stomach then go for it.

    Depression

I was on medications for depression before surgery. I think that it is just something that I have to live with always. I do not think that just because I lose 90 pounds that my depression will go away. Maybe I am wrong but I think that the depression has deeper roots than weight. I suggest that when you are alone that you have yourself a good cry. It always seemed to help me when I was really down. Also try and keep yourself busy. Do you have any hobbies???? Call a friend of just get out of the house and go for a walk and look at nature. Hope that things get better for you soon.

    Weaning Off Anti-Depressants?

I was taking Lexapro and Wellbutrin XL. Since my surgery on Dec 11, 2011 I have stopped taking the Wellbutrin and seem to be doing just fine. I am not sure that I will ever get off them totally but if I just have to take 1 a day that is a great step for me. Now if I can just get down a little more and get off my last blood pressure med. I was taking 2 different ones also before surgery and now just down to 1...........

    Straws

Mine said no also but then mine said no soda but I see many on here are back to soda even if it is diet......what are you drinking through a straw......Soda??????
  9. Oh and since you are only 3 weeks post op your visit will be covered under your global surgical fee. This means that anything that is related to your WLS is covered for a period of time post op. This can vary with different insurance companies and the type of surgery. If you go see a derm doctor you are going to be paying a copay at least so I would first try the surgeon.

Am I A Rebel Or Just Plain Stupid?

There are many types of exercise and some of them do not require to hate it or go to a gym. Walking is one of the best and can also be enjoyable. We have several areas where I live that have paths that go around some wonderful small lakes and through some beautiful parks. You might enjoy the view, flowers or birds on your walk. I enjoy taking my dog out for walks. You can also do work outside such as working in a garden, either veggies or flowers, you can mow the lawn which also burns calories and needs to be done regularly. You could get a bicycle and go for a nice ride enjoying the weather as spring is here and the weather is great. Find something that you enjoy and try to incorporate some exercise into this activity. Many just come with exercise.
  11. I would make an appt with the surgeon as he is the one that closed your incisions

    The Truth About Hair Loss?

One thing that you can try to stave off hair loss is eating some fats in your diet. I know that this may not be good for your calorie count but your hair needs some fat to survive. The diets that we are given do not contain much fat at all. Try eating a little peanut butter each day or if you are able to eat other foods that are a high in fat depending on how far out from surgery you are. I know that when I was on my 8 month liquid diet about 10 years ago we had to comsume so much fat to help with the hair loss.
  13. Here is wishing you all the best. I know that your journey will be a good and safe one. Keep us posted.......God Bless

    I Had My Surgery But

I started out daily but then I went to weekly and then to every 2 weeks and now maybe when I feel different. I think that the farther out you get the slower most of us lose. If you do not lose and are weighing almost daily I started to get down on myself that I was done losing or was doing something wrong. Everyone of us loses at a different weight so I would say put the scale in the closet and notice more then changes in your body. On week I thought that I felt like I was gaining weight but when I got on the scale I had actually lost 3 pounds. Beware as the scale......just like before you had this surgery........can be one of your worst ememies.

    Can You Have Sodas?

Put a penny in a glass of diet coke whether it is caffiene free and let it sit. You will not drink soda again.
  17. Did not know that there were any.......let me know if you hear anything

    Exercising With An Artificial Knee

Well you should be able to do any of the upper body weights that do not involve weights but I think all of the other exercises that you are doing are great. I would just try to increase your speed or length of time that you are doing them as your body allows. DO not be too aggressive as you do not want to injure yourself.

    Treadmill Instructions From My Doctor!

This sounds like a running program that I was enrolled in several years when training for a 10K race......it was called a fartlik run. That was when I was younger and my knees and feet would support. We would job at a slow pace for a block, then speed it up for the next block and then run as fast as we could for the 3rd block.....then back to the slow jog and repeating. This does build indurance and stamina. I know that this will increase your heart rate and thus burn more calories. This makes perfect sense to me. I might just have to give this a try. Thanks for sharing
  20. I was self pay as my insurance would not pay for the sleeve. I had the band previously so it cost me around $6000 in Tijuana, Mexico with Dr F Garcia. It would have cost me $40,000 here in Iowa. I wish I would have done this years ago and wish I would have never heard the word "Lapband". I had my surgery last year at the age of 56.

    Can You Have Sodas?

No sodas for me either. The carbonation causes acid to back up into your esophagus and can lead to ulcers. You will be eating through a tube............. You can have the soda if you let it sit for several hours and let all the carbonation out...........but who wants to drink flat soda.
  22. I think that you are doing amazing at getting in your 64oz. I know that it took me a while post op to get close to that amount. I have heard that warm liquids have worked well for some but at that point I never tried any. I was just taking small sips and at time they were uncomfortable. I would say try and see if it is better for you. It certainly will not hurt you. Again congrats on getting your fluids in so close to your post op.
  23. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations to all of you on your upcomming surgery with Dr Garcia and the beginning of your new life. I also had Dr Garcia and you will be in great hands. His surgical team is also first rate and also the staff at Mi Hospital. I can not wait to see your posts after you have had your surgeies. Hope all goes well for each and everyone of you and I am so excited that you have each chosen to take this journey. Best to all fo you.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Eating Real Sugar

Are you sure that it is your stomach that is making you feel hungry or is it "head hunger". I know that 2 days post op I was not looking to eat anything. I was lucky to be able to take small sips of fluids.
