WOW....you must have a very sensitive scale. I am only 8 weeks out and I have had 3 weeks in a row with no loss or a gain. Hope that others read this about your eating too much during your birthday. It is ok to have an occassional treat but if you do it several days in a row it is not good. That is how I got to where I was in the beginning. Maybe I will have just one and then I had 3-4. Best of luck on your return to the good life.

Owww. Never Again !
IowaAndy replied to monalisa1010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bread products will be one of the last things that you will be adding to your diet. It is dry and that is why it does not go down well. I had this same problem with the band and caused me to vomit many a time but I LOVE bread. This too shall pass. You life will improve and you will gradually begin to eat more as time goes by. You are only 22 days out. I am 8 weeks and can barely eat 1/2 cup of food at a meal. It also depends on what I am eating. hang in there and do not get discouraged. It will all be worth the journey -
When Can I Start Exercising?
IowaAndy replied to xraylinny's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It depends on what you mean by exercising. By week 2 I was going to the gym and walking on the treadmill an hour a day. Granted everyone is going to be different. As for running or lifting weights I think that would be a good questions for your doctor. I know that I was not feeling like running or lifting anything heavy until I hit about 8 weeks. I did lift a few light hand weights but was not lifting anything that would put my staples in jeopardy. I know that everyone on here is going to have a different opinion but I would say that some of it is up to you and how you are feeling and how much energy you have to work out for even 30 minutes. I would start slow and gradually increase time and intensity. -
"you're Fat (And That's The Cause Of All Your Problems)"
IowaAndy replied to Flagstaffian's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry you have to suffer at the hands of an insensitive so called medical professional. A doctor can tell you what they think you should do for better health but they have no place lecturing and lecturing you over and over again. Obviously if this is your primary care doctor it is not new news to her that you have a weight problem. She should be aware that you are trying your best and are not planning on have VSG. If you are not happy with your doctor and you are unable or unwilling to stand up to the doctor then I would be looking for a new doctor. I am sure that ones of your friends of coworkers know of a good doctor that you could see as a primary care physician. I work in the healthcare field and if I talked to and treated patients that way I would no longer have a job. Just because this person has been to medical school does not make them a good doctor......it also take compassion and listening and not always lecturing. If you are unable or unwilling to speak to the doctor about the way you feel then I suggest it is time for a new primary care........their oath does say "DO NOT HARM" -
A Heart Shaped Sleeve For Me
IowaAndy replied to CiscoTeacher's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on your new stomach and best of luck on your journey. -
Not to worry.....this was only one day and remember you did not gain the weight that got you to your highest point in one day. Forget about it and do not dwell but get yourself back on track and begin again. You are in control and we all need to splurge a little every now and then. Just do not make it a habit. Best of luck and Ill bet you will still lose on the scale in the next week.

Freshly Sleeved...with Lots Of Questions.
IowaAndy replied to SicChl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Todd..........first of all congratulations on your surgery and your weight loss to date. I had my procedure on Dec 11 and have lost 36 pounds. I had a span of 2-3 weeks where I did not lose a single pound according to the scale but I knew that I just had to keep going. I know that everyone at some point will hit a stall and they get down on themselves. Don't as this is very common among sleevers. Second the scale.....I hate the scale and hide mine in the back of the closet and have to dig it out to weight. I only weight once a week that way if I an not losing as fast as I think I should then I do not get depressed. I do not know how some people can weight on a daily basis.....that would drive me nuts and I would be gorging on bad foods. I think that they are only doing them a dis-service. As for the gym I have a similiar problem. I have good intentions but then I seem to find someway to talk myself out of it. I have now taken a picture of some guy from a magazine and put it on the refrig. It helps to motivate me a little even though I will never lood like that but I know that I will look a lot better than I did when I first started this journey. Do not dispair as things will get better and you have a lot of living to do in your new life. -
Ah but just wait until the day she grabs her chest as her arteries that feed blood to her heart clog and she asks you to call 911. You will of course but at least you know that you are not headed there. You have to have pity on her.....at least just a little....

Do You Need To Carry Anything In Case Of Emergency?
IowaAndy replied to bellabbr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have a card also that says I had bariatric surgery but I had not idea about the tube insertion. Did your surgeon tell you this. -
I have had a stall and it lasted 2-3 weeks with no weight loss but I am again losing. I am concerned as to why you are vomiting all the time. Wondering if you are eating things that are not agreeing with your new stomach or if you might be eating too fast or too much. If you could post again and let us know what you are eating at this point and how much maybe can be of more help to you. I hope that things improve for you soon and that your vomiting stops very very soon.

Scared To Step On The Scale!
IowaAndy replied to Pammie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do not worry about the scale as a stall is not uncommon. I had a stall about the same time as you and it lasted between 2-3 weeks but I am again on the losing side of the scale. Just keep doing what you are supposed to.....get all of your protein and water and any exercise that you can and believe me that scale will start to move again. -
I Guess I Should Introduce Myself...
IowaAndy replied to Pam2011's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome......I am so glad that you did not have the sleeve as it was nothing but a problem in many ways. I had the sleeve removed on Dec 11, 2011 and had the sleeve performed. I am down 36 pounds since I had surgery and have never felt better. I no longer have the constant vomiting that I had with the band and let me tell you that is one thing that I do not miss. I have had no problems with my sleeve and would highly recommend the surgery. I also was having trouble with my knees and back but since the surgery and my weight loss they are not bothering me anymore. I have a ton of energy and would have the surgery again in a second. I hope that you continue on your path and hope that your knee gets better. I think that if you had the sleeve and lost some weight that when you do have knee surgery that your recovery would be much faster. Best of luck. -
Post-Op Discouragement
IowaAndy replied to kayte819's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off make sure that you are getting all of your Protein and Water daily. This is going to be the biggest help to you and your recovery. I also had a problem with some of the foods that you are describing. As for the tuna I could not eat it at first. I went to the deli and got some shaved ham and turkey and then put it in my small food processor and added some canned broth to make it more moist and this helped the meat go down. As for the eggs I would just try and cut them into small, small pieces and eat them slowly. It is hard to make runny eggs which I would not enjoy at all. i am sure that I would be vomiting. I did eat some Gerber baby food that was chicken and noodles. It is not bad if you add salt and pepper. I would not want to eat it for months but in the beginning it was a good choice for me. Also the lasagna was not bad. Those are the only 2 that I could stomach. Just remember that this is a slow process and everyone is different yet we all have similiar stories. just make sure that you get your protein and water and the rest will come in time. best of luck to you -
What Constitutes A Liquid?
IowaAndy replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that a liquid was anything that becomes waterlike at room temperature. So this would include Jello, popsicles -
3 Days Post Op And My Body Is Angry!
IowaAndy replied to Meredit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw that someone said that they were taking aspirin. Before taking any aspirin I would check with your doctor as aspirin is a blood thinner and since you just had a major surgery there are many other types of medications that you can take that will not cause possible bleeding issues. -
Is This Self-Sabotage?
IowaAndy replied to Writergirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you are being a little hard on yourself. I would be interested in know what type of a diet that you were given by your NUT. My diet is very specific in what I can eat and I know that I was not eating veggies at 11 days post op. In my mushy stage I was eating Gerber baby food as it was easier for me than trying to cook and at about 60cents a jar it would take me through 2-3 meals. I did find some that I did not like but the chicken and noodles was actually pretty good when you add a little salt and pepper. I would be glad to copy and mail you or email you the copy of my diet and at what weeks they suggest adding other foods. Best of luck and do not get down on yourself. -
I had my band removed and had the sleeve done on Dec 11, 2011. I have so far lost 36 pounds and continue to lose. I may not be losing as fast as some but them I am not complaining as I am not getting a lot of hanging skin losing slowly. I think that this can be a plus. I know that I eat less with the sleeve than I was eating with my band if that helps you any.

I know that I want to drink while eating but now I do not even bring them to the table at the same time. I sometimes get a full pressure feeling while eating but if I just wait a little the feeling goes away. Maybe you could take smaller bites when you eat as you said that you are chewing things well. I know that certain things that I eat are more difficult than others so I have moved them back on the to eat later list. I hope that things get better for you and that this problem subsides. The reason for not drinking and eating is that is pushes the food through the pouch faster thus taking away the full feeling. I know that I struggel with this daily.

Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp With Creole Mustard
IowaAndy replied to KellyL's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I have filed away that receipe for when I get to that point in my diet. I am 8 weeks post op and I know that my stomach would never take that right now. I just had a very small portion of fish and a little cottage cheese and my tummy is totally full. but it does make me hungry for something with a little more taste. Thanks for sharing -
WOW....truly amazing photos. You look so healthy and I am sure that you are feeling a lot better. I am sure that by now people have begun to treat you differently also. That is the most amazing part to me as I have not changed as a person inside but the exterior dictates how so many people treat you.....expecially when you are overweight and not considered the norm. Thanks for sharing.

Well said and kudos to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was driving short distances about 5 days after surgery. Granted they were short trips around town and to the store but I was driving. As for long trips that is another story. I tried to go 3 hours for Christmas and had to turn around about an hour away. The seatbelt was rubbing on my stomach and the incision areas and it was more than I could take. I would ask your surgeon and I am sure that you could call his office and ask and not go in to see him. As long as you are not taking pain medications any longer and are getting all of your fluids and not lightheaded I think that you should be able to take small trips.

Connie.....please do not get disappointed. I was only 8 weeks out and I stalled for 2 weeks and thought....oh my God I spent all this money to lose a small amount of weight. Well the scale has started to move again and I will take is nice and slow. I did go back on liquids for a week again just to give my body a rest and then started back on my regulars diet. Please do not give up. If you are feeling stressed maybe you need to see a therpist of possibly start on some medication until you start losing again and feel more like yourself.

Well he is a man......I would talk with him and tell him that it would be nice if you could go and eat somewhere that you could also enjoy something to eat. You mother will always be your mother but boyfriends come and go. If this is the way he is going to treat you then I think you have a lot to think about. Was he treating you this way before the surgery. Maybe he is afraid that you will lose a lot of weight and leave him for someone else. Think that it is a time for a talk.......

Post-Op Problems With Veggies?
IowaAndy replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been able to do some scrammbled eggs with a little cheese but I have not tried anything close to the raw side of veggies. I am about 8 weeks out and I have had peas, carrots, and green beans but they have all been very well cooked and more of a mushy consistency. I never really got along with green peppers before surgery so I am sure that they will be one of the last things that I try and add to my diet. I too would try the process of elimination and see which one causes the problems. You can always try the one that you are having problems with in another few weeks and you might be able to tolerate it at that time. Best of luck.
