It Was Good, But Should I Feel Bad
IowaAndy replied to Cheles's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think that I would have eaten the roast beef and lost the bread. The other day I was hungry for fish so stopped at Arbys and to just the fish patty to bring home. It lasted me 2 meals. I do not think that I am anywhere ready for bread at 10 weeks out. I crave it but I can wait. -
I Need Help...
IowaAndy replied to illgeturhairdid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was taking an antidepressant before surgery.....actually 2 diffferent ones. I am now only taking one as I have been feeling so much better since my surgery and my current weight loss. I am going to stay on this one for now and we will see in a few months how things go. Might want to talk to your doctor about trying something that may be of help to you. -
I did break the other day after 9 weeks post op and bought a 4 pack of the soft batch choc chip cookie. I did not even look at the calories. I ate 1 single cookie 4 days in a row to get my craving to go away. Now that they are gone I am fine. I certainly would not buy a large package or Oreo's as I know they would be calling my name from the kitchen at night when I was trying to sleep.

No Weight Loss With My New Sleeve This Week
IowaAndy replied to Tracey37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep you have hit the infamous stall.....Mine lasted for 2 1/2 weeks and then the scale started to move again. I increased my protein and made sure that I was getting all of my fluids which is always important. It will move again. -
I do not have to take a seperate iron tablet. I take just a multivitamin, sublingual Vit B12 and then the calcuim citrate. Women are more prone to run a lower hemoglobin so maybe you will need to take an iron supplement. I had a complete blood panel after mu surgery and all of my blood work was within normal range. I guess that I would ask my doctor to check a chemistry and see where you are as far as you blood levels.

Any Tips For Flying With Shakes & Vitamins
IowaAndy replied to Autumnjazz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes you may take pain medications on the plane but I would leave them in their original bottle. You will not have any problems with them taking them away as long as they are prescription and given to you by a physician and are in a bottle from the pharmacy -
Any Tips For Flying With Shakes & Vitamins
IowaAndy replied to Autumnjazz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took my pills in my pill box for 7 days. I was not going to be gone for long on my last trip. I know that they suggest that you keep prescription meds in the bottles especially narcotics. It never hurts to be safe. I know when I leave the country I keep all of my pills in the bottles. It is a pain but I do not want to end up in some trouble over medications. As far as your shake mix I have individual packets that I travel with and as long as they are powder and in the package I have not had any trouble. I usually buy a bottle of water and then use my shaker to make my shake. Or if on the plane they will give you water and ice and you can shake away. -

Its My 35Th Day After The Sleeve And Every Day I Wake Up With A Bad Breath
IowaAndy replied to hamanyq8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW!!!!!!!! Not sure how we went from bad breath to HIV but I hope that you are not sitting after reading this and thinking "Oh my God I have HIV." Thrush can be caused from many things. if indeed that is truely what you have. Going to the doctor will be your best bet. I am 9 weeks post op and wake up with a terrible taste in my mouth in the morning and also bad breath. I attribute it to what I eat in my diet and possibly medications and vitamins that I may take on a daily basis. I know that it is not HIV. I do know that if you are taking certain antibiotics that this can also cause thrush. Do not sit and worry that you may be HIV positive. There are many other causes for thrust is that is indeed what you have. I would make an appt with your doctor and go in and see if he can tell you what it may be.......probably nothing that is caused by disease. -
I agree that is it many time the specific contract that is worked out between your specific employeer and the insurance carrier. As for me I had hypertension, sleep apnea, and borderline diabetes. My insurance initially paid for the lapband but when I wanted to have the sleeve as I still had around 100 pounds to lose they would not cover the removal and the sleeve. I was told that they only were approving the lapband and the bypass. I think that this was an agreement between them. The sleeve has not been one of the most used in recent years and many either had the lapband or the bypass. I think that as time goes on that this will change and they will add the sleeve but it all takes time. It is just like some companies do not cover any type of infertility treatment in their policies either but now some are adding them. These procedures all cost money and it too many people are using this feature it becomes more expensive for all.

I Have To Eat Out..again
IowaAndy replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lot of restuarants have menus online so that you can look at the menu before you decide where to go. No matter where you will go you will have to be able to choose something that is in your current diet plan. You can always order soup and I know that we all get tired of soup really fast. Maybe a piece of chicken if you are at that stage and some mashed potatoes. I guess that it all depends on how far out you are and what you are currently able to eat. I always could have an omlette as I love breakfast anytime of the day. There will be more than enough and you can have left overs for a meal or 2. I am going out with friends tomorrow night and have already told them where I want to eat so that I have some choices and NO BUFFETS. Why spend the money and eat just a little food.....crazy plus it just makes you want to eat more and then feel miserable. -
Tricks To Taking Pills?
IowaAndy replied to sabrina140's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it is a pill that can not be cut or a capsule that must remain intact I would take it with a spoon full of jello. This helps to open your stomach a little so that the pill can enter easier. You could always ask the doctor for a smaller dose pill and take more than one for the time being also. If they are time release you could try one that is not so that it can be cut into smaller pieces. Check with your doctor or pharmacist on each specific medication as they are all different. -
Each BCBS plan has different exclusion in their policies. You would have to dig deeper into what you plan will cover and what it will not. My BCBS in Iowa would not cover the sleeve so it made no sense to appeal their decision. They would pay for the band and a bypass but no sleeve.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! congratulations to you on your amazing success. wish you continued success in the months to come. You must be so excited with the new you........ -
I agree it would be the amount of sodium that you are taking in the with protein shakes and with the soups especially. I would definitely be calling my primary care and alert him to this as you may need to watch your salt intake or possibly get on a medication to help get rid of this excess fluid. Seems strange that you have not had this problem before.

I can not say that I am having the same affect as you but I wish. I can say that at least now I can see that "it" is still there. Hope you are not drinking your coffee now and spill it again.

Congratulations on your approval. I am glad that you insurance covers this surgery as mine would not. I wish you all the best as you get closer and closer to your surgery date.

I'm Struggling With My Choice.......
IowaAndy commented on tjbeans38's blog entry in tjbeans38's Blog
One problem with your lower than expected weight loss is that you may not be getting enough protein or fluids for you body to do its thing. I know that if you body thinks that it is being starved it will start to shut down and try and stop you from starving. You need to get in your protein and all of your liquids. if you do not like the protein shakes try some yogart or go to GNC and get some flavored fruit punch drink as it is high in protein and it is more like drinking a soda. Put it over lots of ice and get your protein. I know that eating the same thing day after day gets boring but if you husband did it I know that you can do it. Just take it a day at a time and soon enough you will be through the early stages and be able to eat more satisifying foods. -
Wow those are amazing. Congratulation on the excellent job you have been doing. I hope all continues to get better for you as you embrace your new life.

So glad that your surgery went well and I am glad that you are not having much pain. I also had very little pain but did have the nausea. Just remember to be up walking as it will help you a great deal. Hope all goes well with the rest of your stay and that you return home safely. -
I am now 9 weeks post op and I still have double Protein shake for Breakfast. It is very handy when I am running late or in a hurry or it I happen to be somewhere that I do not want to spend a fortune ordering ala carte. I think that I will always have some protein mix in my diet.
-
Wow.....I wish I had your diet. I was not eating that type of foods at 3.5 weeks post op.
