I work in an infusion center and this is what we see every day. Infections in different areas and from different reasons. We administer iv antibiotics. Has the dr sampled the fluid in the band? Have culters come back with what is in there? MRSA -- STAPH -- it could be that maybe the actual band or tubing was not sterile upon implant. the best thing is probably to seek advise about having it removed. For now anyway. If the infection is within inthe band system, why would someone allow it to remain? Be sure cultures have been done and make sure which ever antibiotic they have placed you on is one that the infection is susceptible to.

WOW. there are a lot of people scheduled just for the month of March. Makes you think, how many people have already gone through this and the number that are yet to do so. I have only known about the LapBand for 1 year and I cannot imagine all this popularity.

Yes, that was me... that was you I sat next too.... Actually, you geave me this forum website. the one I had been on I did not correspond much. Thanks, for talking to me that night. I am like you as for being so nervous. I am always petrified that I am going to die during surgery. I have had several surgies, I have always been afraid of this. That is my main concern. I will do the same, I will want to tell them never mind forget it. It is not necessary. But I would have the nagging feeling thta I just have to get through this. I had one of our cardiologist look over my ekg today, it did have some infarctions on it, but that is nothing "real" only imitation. He said I should not worry. So I am more relieved now. My xray came back --clean. The blood work I will have drawn Monday and fax over to Dr. pitt. I t really helps working in the medical field so I do not have to go through all the torment of waiting for appointments like some others do. I just go to the right person and get it done, or do it myself. How long did your surgery last? As for taking off work, I am scheduled to have the surgery on a Monday, an dI am off that Tuesday. that is all. I hope I can function. Again, it was really nice to meet you.

I have only been to one support meeting and that was this months. I was at that meeting. Maybe I saw you. Where do you live? Are you from the kirksville area (I beleive that was the area)? If so, I believe we sat next to each other. If you remember, let me know where you sat. I had my 17 year old daughter with me that night... I look forward to seeing you whenever you do go to the meetings.. I will be going on March 8th. I am getting more nervous as the days go by. I had my chest x ray done today. Also, I had my ekg... not sure about that..... it showed some abnormalities on it. but I work with the person that did my ekg, and she said not to worry, but of course now I am really worried. maybe something is wrong and maybe if it is too bad I will not get to have surgery. I have no idea. Will have to get more inforation at work tomorrow. Or even retake the ekg....

Hello again to everyone. My surgery is scheduled for March 12th. I am to start my pre-op diet on March 2nd. 10 days of liquids/liquid protein. I have not been very fond of any of the protein drinks out there. The shakes are nasty and too sweet... If I can smell the vitamin/iron in the the stuff, it gags me.. even worse when I can taste it.... I even went and bought some of the non flavored unjury protein... unflavored...yes, but still smells and taste like vitamins..... uuuggghh!! The only drink I have found that I can even tolerate, not sure about for 10 straight days though, is the Isopure zero carb drinks.. they have a variety of fruit flavored drinks... like a juice/koolaid type drink already premixed in glass bottles... they have 40g of protein and my dr only requires 20 per day... I am so nervous about surgery itself and if I am unable to follow the pre-op just right, I am a fraid I will not shrink my liver appropriately for the surgery and cause a problem.... I know that this is why we have the 10 day pre-op diet... it has been explained to me .... I understadn the importancve, but I also have no will power and I too have been planning multitudes of last suppers......... not even hungry but I act like I am.

tachlime.... My insurance was very responsive. I was afraid that is where my problems would be. Now I am just dreading the upcoming 10 day liquid diet. How does your Dr do the pre op? I know everyone is different. -

mellove------- where are you from? why do i hear of so many going to mexico to have this done? the other website group i was on, everyone was going to tj... also noticed, we have the same birthday ---not the year, i am older.. -
I am scheduled for march 12. I have some of the same feelings. The pre op diet scares me most. I do not like the protein drinks they make me throw up.. the smell and the tate is nasty. I have to do them for 10 days prior then for a few weeks after. I have found the isopure zero carb fruit flavored drinks they are a bit better just have an after taste. What else are people allowed to have on the 10 day pre op?

Hi ... I am in Jefferson City.... I am scheduled for surgery in columbia on March 12. Is there anyone located close to me? -
Hello, I am in Jefferson City. I am going through Dr. Pitt in Columbia. He not only performs the lapband but is even a patient.... and he does the gastric bypass too. It is ultimately the patients choice, I am scheduled for lapband on March 12. This is my preference, less invasive... hopefully I will see substancial loss soon after to motivate me to keep moving ....

I am nervous too. My co-worker and I both were going to do this together, although insurance has denied her now. She is appealing. But now I really feel alone. Not to mention this co-worker, is my supervisor. I am afraid she may start treating me differently since my surgery was approved. I hope all goes well with you and me both. I am in Missouri and am 39 soon to be 40 but we will forget that!!!

Where do I even begin? I went to my informational seminar in November of 2006. Saw the dietician, psychiatrist, and nutritionist in December 2006. Met with my surgeon in January 2007. Insurance approved in February 2007. Scheduled for my lapband surgery March 12, 2007. Now the real journey begins..............

I agree... fearful... I am fearful of negative outcome related to surgery and that maybe I won't be able to follow my pre op 10 day liquid diet or that maybe I will go through all of this and never lose the weight. Then on the other hand I am excited I am starting to picture myself normal size. I do not want to be thin. I want to be average. My husband bought me gift certificates to old navy where I like to shop for Christmas. I am saving them for me to buy a new size of clothes. That is one of my incentives... I may not want to wear what others are wearing, but I want that option to choose not to wear it.!! I am really scared and nervous, I work in the healthcare field and I see daily the negative outcome of any surgery and this literally scares me. But on the other hand, I have acquired high blood pressure, so this could kill me. So I am just in limbo right now.

Keeping the band a "secret"???
Sharon67 replied to kity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as telling people... I have only mentioned to a few select co-workers that also have weight issues.... I do not wish the others to know. Just let them notice the change. I am really shy about my weight with my husband as well, and I really did not even want him to know. But he was watching a discovery health show and saw the procedure on the show. He was talking about what he had watched and I just "blurted" out, 'yeah that is what I am doing too'. Ever since then, he has asked questions and we have discussed it more. I actually am relieved that he knows and he seems to be supportive. Unusual for our relationship.. We will see how things go, I am scheduled to be banded on March 12. I am so scared of "going under" and of not being able to even successfully follow through with my pre-op 10 liquid diet. -
I think I have it now....(my ticker , that is) I was on a previous forum and everyone was going to Mexico to have the surgery. That is not the case with people here is it? I live in Missouri and am having my surgery here.

how can I get my tickers to go on to this post? Can someone please tell me?
