Oh, that's interesting about the 30 grams at once. My nut said just to be sure to drink lots of water if you are having more than 60 g a day of protein, which we are supposed to do anyway. My dr. is having an 1 1/2 hour seminar today for everyone having surgery on Monday. I'll be sure to ask if I'm drinking too much protein or too much at once, since we have to do this after the surgery, too. I'll let you know.

So sorry about your job, Gal. Can they do that right before you take sick leave? The timing seems suspect to me. Good attitude on everything. I have to remember to eat to live as well. Do you have to buy unjury online or is it available in grocery stores? It's one I haven't tried yet. Hang in there!

I've been on the liquid Protein diet (only liquids high in protein--no solids) for 12 day now. Seems like you do get used to it, at least a little bit. My motivation is that I want to do everything possible to improve my chances for a successful surgery on Monday. If it weren't for that, I just don't think I could do it. Fortunately for me, my doctor allows any Liquid Protein that contributes to the goal of 60+ grams of protein a day with a total per day of 900-1200 calories. I'm so grateful for the variety. Even the drinks I don't care for much are nice for variation--I just have to have variation! Walmart (wish it was somewhere else--I have serious problems with Walmart BTW), has one of my favorites: vanilla Body Fortress Super Advanced whey Protein. I use 1 scoop in two cups of 1% milk, which gives me 140 calories and 26g of protein for the Protein powder and 200 calories and 16 grams of protein for the milk. So drinking that one thing gives me 340 calories and 42 g. of protein. Not bad! Three weeks ago I ordered some bariatric Protein Drink sample pacs online but they haven't come yet. Guess I'll try them after surgery if they don't come today. I'll let you know how they taste--lots of interesting flavors! Good luck everyone!

So glad to see other tough baby boomers here! I'm 63 and am having band to rny revision on Monday. I went to the hospital this morning to have my pre-op tests done and to finish the paperwork. Nervous and excited! I wonder how much our age factors into complications and recovery. Any ideas? Good luck Glennr--you are just a few days after me. Vicki had her surgery yesterday. Granny, you are an inspiration and give me hope for great results--even at our age!! (don't you just love that expression...)

Good luck to both of you--before and after! I never got the right fill with the lapband either but I was able to lose some weight. How discourged you must be, bbkbbya, to weigh more after the surgery than before you went through all that. Good for you to go forward in your Quest to be healthy. So glad you are doing well, Lisa! I'm going in on Monday for my revision. It's so helpful to hear stories like yours. Congrats!

Yes me, too. Nervous and excited. I'm at the hospital now for pre-op blood tests. Got butterflies coming in. Wonder how it will feel on Monday. Good luck on your diet tomorrow. Lucky you!

YES! 12 of us on the 10th? Wow.

Great to hear Lisa and mkruit! Lisa, I'm wondering how long your surgery was and how much more complicated it was because of the band removal. How long were you in the hospital? I know we are all different but I'm having the same surgery done on Monday and so I'm nervous and wondering how it will all go and how long I'll be in the hospital, etc. Glad you are doing well!

Hang in there dstumpfol! My story is very similar to yours and I'm scared, too! I am having my band from 2007 removed and revising to rny on Monday the 10th--just before you. I talked to my doctor about all the things that were on my mind that you listed above. He was very reassuring and said that these fears and concerns are very, very common with people who have not done well or even failed with the lapband. That makes sense to me. Once again we have put our fears aside, done something scary, and had it fail with the band. He assures me this WILL WORK if I am able to stick to the protocol of diet and exercise. I'm worried, too, about the malnutrition and the ability to eat what is necessary and healthy (not just slider foods to get by the band!). I have to believe this will be the answer--I'm not rearranging my insides to just go back to bad habits and comfort foods. Does your doctor have a support group? I think that will really help--I've been to one of their meetings already and just felt so good with their stories, hopes, dreams, concerns, etc. I'm commited to attend every month. Good luck to US next week! Here's to a new life!

Happy new year, PSKKJM! Talk about a great way to begin your resolutions!

Congrats, Vicki! So exciting. I'm sure you've been on such a roller coaster--I'm so glad you are going in tomorrow. Less time to really worry! Good luck. Let me know how it goes with the revision. I'm having the revision on Monday. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck!
-
Me, too! Are you getting nervous? How's the liquid diet going? Here's to us and all the other December folks.
-
SO excited for you! Good luck--see you on the other side. Let us know how things go as soon as you are able. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
-
I hear ya! I'm nervous for Monday--can't imagine how I'll feel on Saturday. Good luck!

Mine is liquid protein drinks for two weeks before surgery. The doctor says it's both to shrink the liver and to clean out the colon. If you don't do the died, he requires a bowel prep--I'd rather drink liquids for two weeks than have that!

I have been looking for this thread under the "Monthly Groups>2012>December" thread. There was only one post there and then I added mine last week-I didn't know there was an active thread for December. I wonder if anyone else is looking there? Or am I missing something? Not sure--I'm new to this. Also, I read that a new thread had been started for December post-op. Maybe that's in the post-op forum, I didn't look but will. Anyway, I wonder if the monthly place would be a good place to put the threads so that we can easily find December 2012 by looking there. I'm not sure how or if it could/should be changed and/or copied--just a thought for other lost souls looking for the December 2012 group. Good luck everyone!

Try Emergence-C. Always works for me! It would be fine on the liquid diet, I believe.

Me, too! the emotions are crazy. There are sure a lot of us having surgery on the 10th--I'm so thankful for this support group. Hang in there everyone--we can do this!

My surgery is December 10 in Provo, Utah. I'm having a revision from LapBand (2007). I've been on the liquid diet for 1 week, so I'm halfway there. Haven't cheated and hope to be able to say that next Sunday night. I'm probably the oldest one having surgery this month (63) and maybe the oldest on the site. Yikes! I guess it's never too late. Good luck to everyone having surgery this week. So anxious to see you on the other side!
-
That's probably true about the site becoming more active when December comes. I do like the before surgery questions and thoughts though. Maybe I'll go ahead and try to start something. It seems like the other months have that as well as the after-surgery posts. yes, the random word searches are very interesting. I've finally quit reading about complications--it was good and important information, but now my decision is made, I'm focusing on the successes and positive experiences. I'm starving for something to chew as well, Lisa. I have some chocolate sugar-free calcium chews that I really look forward to (along with my chewable multi-vites). Such a treat to take vitamins! Who knew?

Just Ended Day 3 Of Preop Diet
momlambert replied to lisamcgowin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lisa, your story is SO much like mine--I did lose 65 lbs but have gained it all back. I also never felt good restriction even though I had 20+ fills. I was banded in March of 2007. Now I have nausea almost constantly and, according to the endoscopy, my esphogus looks like ground hamburger. I considered the sleeve, but that wouldn't really help my poor esphogus, so I am going with rny on December 10. Good luck on your conversion--can't wait to hear from you when you are on the other side of surgery. -
I'm still having problems with the "DRASTIC" aspect of this surgery, Vicki. Can't I just do this myself? Really, now! But, I never have so why should I think I can now. I'm scheduled for the 10th of December. I don't seem to be able to find a good December 2012 topic--all I can find is a list of dates, which is nice but I'd like to be on a December thread that talks about people's thoughts, fears, successes, complications, etc. I've enjoyed reading the November thread and was hoping for the same thing for December. Guess I'll have to keep looking--there just must be one! Glad we are all off the bandwagon! Good for us! It's hard to admit that we made a mistake but that's part of the learning curve, right? Good luck to you all!

Just Ended Day 3 Of Preop Diet
momlambert replied to lisamcgowin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 4 of the pre-op diet. Surgery is December 10. I'm finding the best way to handle the Protein is with variety--some are better than others so I take the good with the bad. I don't mind the Atkins Advantage as much as the Muscle Milk, for instance. I like the Special K as well. Others I'm drinking are Core Power Light, Isopure and Nestle's Boost (both powder with 1% milk) and Slim Fast. I drink a combination of 4-5 per day, which gives me a total of 70+ grams of protein and 1,000-1,200 calories. I like my iPhone app "MyFitnessPal." It tracks the calories and the protein for me so I know if I need to drink the 5th drink at night or can go without it. Lisa, way to go! Good luck on your surgery NEXT WEEK! Wow! -
I got my date, too! Band revised to RNY on December 10. I'm on a 2-week liquid diet now. I'm really nervous, too. All of a sudden it's REAL! Today I had to sign all the forms that discuss all the risks and possible complications--including death, of course. I told my doctor I just signed my life away. He said that they try to put every possible complication on there but that they seldom have serious complications and no one has died yet. Law, how long was your surgery and recovery? My doc says the surgery may take 3-4 hours because of the band removal and that I will be in the hospital at least two nights and probably can't return to work for 3-4 weeks. Luckily, I work on campus and the campus is pretty shut down after December 17. It will be nice to recover during the holidays. I'm 63 and am also concerned about my age. Is there anyone as old as I am who has done this revision? I haven't found anyone but I'm just now becoming active on this board (switched from LapBand talk). Good luck everyone!
