One week to go....
momlambert replied to Myskinnydreams0605's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes, my weight loss is a lot faster right now than it was this soon after the band. Over the five years that I had the band I lost 60 lbs. but gained it all back (well, except for 2 lbs.). Honestly, the recovery was much longer with the bypass--I was pretty miserable for a week or so. With the band it was just 3-4 days. The band was an outpatient surgery. The bypass required me to stay in the hospital for 4 days. There definitely is a difference between the two procedures. I'm hoping there is a big difference in the outcome, too. Good luck! -
One week to go....

It's totally normal to be scared and worried! I totally was when I had my revision on December 10--and I'm 63 years old, so I was afraid that would complicate things as well. Thankfully, everything went well--a little damage to my stomach from the band so my pouch is a bit larger than the surgeon wanted it to be, but, other than that, everything went well. I'm six weeks out and still figuring our how to eat correctly and how to get in 60 grams of Protein and 64 oz. of Water every day. Believe me, it's a huge challenge. It definitely is a learning process! Good luck to you. If you are like me, after the surgery you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. -

Me, too. Last we heard was a week or so ago, wasn't it? She was just going in for a feeding tube. It's so sad that she's had such terrible complications. I hope we hear from her soon! -

Welcome! My surgery was the same day as yours. How are you doing? I'm still weak some days and having trouble getting in all my water and protein. But I'm plugging away. Just got to ONE-derland! Thrilled with that. -

Welcome to you both! FYI, you will find LOTS more information and support if you look under the December thread in the post-op forum. It's a great resource and support. Good luck on your journey! -

I didn't bruise until afterwards either. Mine turned green then yellowish and now is mostly faded. It's been four weeks since yesterday. -

I did hippie. I think most of the big bruised area was from the heparin shots. -

I'd like to be friends on fitness pal, too, but I can't figure put how to add people unless they are Facebook friends or they are in my contacts. If anyone wants to add me my name is TheGrandma. -
I hurt for you. Good luck and hang in there. Every day is better. I'm three weeks out and feel SO much better. You will, too. Keep your eye on the prize!

Getting ready to go in to surgery!

Good luck, Kristy! -
My Doc says "no" because of the fizz--it would be dangerous like dring carbonated sodas. I've had a cough since surgery 10 days ago and have been taking Delsym for that but it probably woudn't help with the head cold symptoms. Hope you feel better.

So happy for you! I am one-week post-op today and trying to have a narcotic-free day. So far so good but will probably do morphine tonight if I'm this uncomfortable when I go to bed. Haven't lost much but am okay with that for now. Keep on, everyone! -

Glad to hear everyone is doing so well, even after complications. I had surgery on Monday and came home yesterday. Doing pretty well but am grateful for liquid Loritab--I still need it every 5-6 hours. Still have a drain, but it will come out on Tuesday. I'm not worried about that because I had bowel surgery in January last year and when they removed the drain it didn't hurt at all. I didn't have a binder (I'm trying to cover all the discussion topics I've been following here, in case you can't tell). Last night I had lots of trouble sleeping because I coughed and coughed. I don't have a cold or anything and I only cough when I'm lying down. I propped myself up with 5 pillows and it helped a little but I still coughed. If that goes on tonight, I may try sleeping in a chair. I don't have a recliner but I do have a couple of comfy stuffed rocking chairs, so it might work. I've been using the incentive spirometer. I can't imagine it's pneumonia, but it does feel like it could be bronchitis. I feel fine, though--no stuffiness or congestion or anything. I talked to the nurse today and she thought the doctor might want me to come in for a chest x-ray to make sure I don't have pneumonia, but I never heard back so he must have not been too concerned. Anyway, has anyone else had this problem or know what to do to get some sleep? Good luck to everyone who is recovering and to those still looking forward to the surgery. It's no picnic but not really horrible. I had the band removed, which made my surgery about 4 hours, but other than that everything seemed to go well. Good night, everyone! -
Yes, it could be a problem but looks like it's working out okay. He said when they tested the opening they couldn't get the scope through it but then they were able to. After they pulled the probe out, it would close right up. They did it several time and could get it through but it kept closing up. They were hoping it was from swelling. Yesterday when I did the contrast swallow, the solution hung up there and didn't go through. My doc decided to go ahead and start me on Clear liquids and see if it would trickle through and eventually the swelling would go down and would work. That seems to be what is happening. I had 1/2 c. of broth last night (in addition to the constant sips of water) and everything must be going down. Tonight I had 1/2 c. of cream of wheat and it went through as well. So I think we're on our way. He's keeping me another day because of that and also because I haven't had as much output as he would like to see. Just got more morphine. Hope this message is coherant. I'll write again tomorrow. Good luck everyone!

I'm doing pretty weel, thanks for asking. I had surgery Monday and am still in the hospital but hope to go home tomorrow. My band came out pretty well but did leave a lot of scar tissue so my new stomach had to be a little longer than most and the opening is having a hard time staying open so I can only do really, really small sips of stuff. The pain hasn't been too bad with the medication. My shoulder/diaphragm pain is the worst tonight. I'm really tired and ready for bed. I just wish they could leave me alone throughout the night! Can't wait to get home.

Sitting here trying to finish up some things at work (and keeping my mind off the next few hours). I report in at the hospital at 10:30. Surgery at noon. YIKES! It's really here. Butterflies, yes, but mostly hope for the future. Good luck to all my surgery buddies and everyone else having surgery this month. We can do this! (This weekend I purged my pantry of everything unhealthy. As you can imagine, it's pretty bare. But, as my daughter said, "Doesn't just looking in the pantry make you feel thin???" Right now I'm mourning the departure of my old friends but yes, it's a step for sure!)

Thanks so much for keeping up on this, Southern. It looks like my name was dropped--my surgery is today in Provo, UT. Hope you are feeling better!

Thanks, Mi2--prayers are appreciated. It's exciting but nerve-wracking at the same time. Good luck on the liquid diet--it is really tough, no doubt. Then two more weeks after surgery--ugh. I'm hoping I won't be as hungry then. But, like you, I just want to CHEW! My chewable calcium vitamins, and fiber do help with that a little bit. But I want a pretzel, or chips, or crackers--whatever that would crunch and be satisfying. Oh well, I hope it is worth it--I have to believe it will be. I'm a little gun shy since the LapBand didn't work like I had hoped. Congrats, Beans. Yup--so quick, but not quick enough. Good luck!

Congrats, Lola! Great start to a new year and a new you.
