  4. Welcome everyone! Glad to see some of us baby boomers taking charge of our lives. My surgery was 12-10-12 and I'm beginning to feel really good. Not setting any weight loss records but have lost almost 40 lbs so I'm going the right direction. Hope everyone with recent and upcoming surgeries is doing well. Keep us posted!

I can't stop worrying and wondering abt her. I did reach out to Alex a few weeks ago and asked him if he might have any secret info in her registration facts that he could use to let her know we are worried abt her and really want to hear from her but he didn't respond. I don't know what else to do. As far as I can tell, she hasn't posted anywhere on this site since she last posted here and said she was going in for a feeding tube. I do wish we knew something!

So sorry for the UTIs. I know how miserable they are as I have had them chronically since my third child was born 40 years ago. I did have a bladder repair when I had my last (10th) baby 25 years ago and it helped for awhile. I take cranberry supplements everyday and that does help. When I do get a full-blown infection, macrobid works but Cipro never does. It took several cultures to prove to my male doctors that Cipro doesn't work for me. Doctors seem to prefer using it first and apparently it works well for most people. The other two things that work for me when I'm miserable are drinking straight cranberry juice--unsweetened and really awful but works almost instantaneously and the other is a prescription pill that numbs the urinary tract. I haven't had to take the numbing pill since surgery so I'll have to make sure it's ok now. I've had two UTIs since my surgery on Dec 10. One took the full treatment of antibiotics but the other I was able to control with the cranberry juice and supplements. If I can treat an infection when I first feel it coming on I have pretty good success. I'm sure this is tmi but maybe there is something here that might be helpful to someone. The doctor who helped me the most is a woman who said she had one infection once and so will not let another woman suffer like that Good luck everyone. Feel better!
  12. Yes, it's under " gastric bypass surgery support" and then "age specific"

    What ya eating tonight?

I had steamed salmon and a little roasted sweet onion. Delish!
  14. Maybe I am the oldest! I'm 63 and had surgery 12-10-12. I actually had revision from band to RNY and had a few complications with the band removal, but even so I was only in the hospital for 4 days. A week after I was released I went to a Christmas party at work. I couldn't eat anything but was glad I went even though I was really tired afterward. I worked off and on during the holidays and went back full time on January 2. I've lost abt 36 lbs. not a lot compared to some but I'm happy I took this step. BTW, there is a forum called something like age specific GBS or something like that. It hasn't been very active but u might want to check it out and post there. I'm subscribed to it. Good luck! Stay in touch.

So sorry you are discouraged, but I totally understand. I will also be eight weeks out on Monday and having similar results. I, too, am so afraid this will fail--like every single other attempt I have made at losing weight, including the LapBand. My doctor assures my feelings are normal about that. As of today I've lost a total of 34 lbs since I started the liquid diet in November. I was stalled for several weeks but was down 2.1 lbs this week. Hooray for that. I also exercise everyday, get in 60 grams of protein everyday and stay around 800 calories. I have found that sometimes increasing my calories to close to 1,000 for one day now and then seems to help get off a stall. Another thing I try to remember is that muscle weighs more than fat so the exercise contributes to that. I am able to wear smaller clothes and I do feel better physically so I look at those things as victories and try to focus less on the scale numbers. I do have faith in the process and am determined to keep on keeping on. We will succeed! It's just a matter of time. Good luck to you and everyone else on this journey. No one said it would be easy but I have to believe it will be worth it.

Me, too! Lost a total of 32 lbs. I didn't keep track of loss during pre-op but surgery was 12/10/12. It's so easy to get discouraged and wonder what I'm doing wrong. I use MFP and everything seems okay but it's so easy to doubt myself and feel like this will be another failure.

My doctor gave me two guidelines:(1) as listed on the package, the product has to have less than 25g of carbohydrates per serving, and (2) "sugar" can not be the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd ingredient listed in the ingredients. For what it's worth.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that--how very sad. Since it's been a month since her surgery, I wondered if she has had complications since surgery or if it's something that suddenly happened. Life is so fragile. So many of us are still recovering and I know complications can happen at any time but I for one am starting to finally feel "safe." How sad for her family--and for her sister and family to have to deal with that and cancer. I can't imagine. I pray for peace and love and good memories to abound in their home--and to you as well.

    One week to go....

P.S. I forgot to mention that I've lost 35 lbs so far with the bypass--more than half of what I lost total in five years with the band. I don't think you'll be sorry with your decision--I know I'm not!
