I had a total open hysterectomy 6 weeks after an open gallbladder removal. The hysterectomy was SO much worse. You'll do great. Anticipation is the worst! If you are having gallbladder problems now, think how much better you will feel after it's out. You'll be a new woman. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

    Update three monthes out

Thanks, I appreciate everyone's support. My troubles usually appear when I compare myself to others who had surgery when I did. I need to STOP that craziness!

Yes, that really concerns me. Scary, indeed.

    Update three monthes out

Yes, I've been discouraged, too. I was 3 months out yesterday and have lost 45. I have about 35 to go. I keep telling myself that I'm probably slower than many because I didn't have as much to lose, therefore the loss is slower. The upside of that, according to my doctor, is that those who have less to lose often come closer to their goal. Guess I'll hang on to that. I have to remember that 45 lbs is A LOT of weight! It's hard, too, because people don't seem to notice. They comment on my "new hair style," which is the same as it's always been, not knowing that it's my face that is thinner, not my hair that is different. My husband has coincidentally lost 25 lbs and is at his goal weight. Of course, everyone comments on his great loss. I want to say, "What about ME? I've lost almost twice as much as he has!" But, I guess it's not as noticeable when you still have a long way to go.
  8. Welcome everyone! We're a tough group of baby boomers, huh? Good luck everyone!

    Hello

Sorry, I gave you the wrong info. It's under postop gastric surgery--it should be one of the first ones you see there.

    Hello

There is a postop thread for December 2012 people. Look under the heading "monthly support groups." It's extremely helpful to get support from people who had surgery about the same time as you. Come join us!

I'm abt the same as you, Gen. My surgery was December 10. I weighed 228 and now weigh 185. It has slowed down. My doc doesn't want me to drink protein drinks anymore so I'm spared of that yuckiness in my life. He wants me to eat natural forms of protein. It's difficult but I am almost always able to get in 60+ g protein and stay under 900 calories each day. Honestly, I feel so much better without all those artificial sweeteners in protein drinks, bars, and supplements. Glad you are feeling better!

Mi2, I know everybody and every doctor is different but my doc says to eat at least 600 calories per day (600-900). He also advises against salad because it takes up valuable pouch space that could be filled with good protein. I started losing better (still not great) when I followed that advice, made sure I was getting at least 60g protein and 48 oz water. I don't eat any bread, potatoes, or pasta per his instructions. Basically protein (75% of my food) and vegetables (25% of food). When I can do that, I lose. Just some thoughts. Good luck! So sorry you are frustrated.

Congrats, Nicole! That's wonderful. My surgery was exactly one week before yours and I've only lost 42 lbs. total. Good for you!
