Band removal due to hiatal hernia & reflux
jvalve replied to Nanook's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
angie, i am much like you. the doctor just put me on aciphex because i have gerd which i never had before the lapband (3 years ago). the hearburn started probably about a year ago on and off but as of late has been worse. but, i notice, sometimes i eat too fast still, and i graze likey ou and then go for one meal. that one meal can only occur in the evening when i am open the most, but, because it is late it causes gerd and heartburn. sometimes i want to have the band removed but i dont want to gain weight. then, i dont want to do damage to my esophagus and have a worse health problem. dont know what to do. and i dotn want to stay on mediceine either. i am going to stay away from the foods that trigger the gerd, just do the medicine till i am healed and then go off it. the medicine alters your stomach acid and that cannot be good wither. i feel i wouldnt have gerd if i didnt have the lapband. but then i would be fat!! lol. help -

Cheese, Nuts and supplements
jvalve replied to barelovers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi, i was banded july 16. you will eventually be able to eat nuts and cheese again. i do. i have to follow a special diet anyway exclusive of lap band and i practically live on them. high in Protein butyes you have to watch the calories. i never buy a can of nuts or a block of cheese. i only purchase the single serving at convenience store (99 cents usually) and the cheddar cheese that is usually sold by the fruit. i live on that stuff and you will be full on just a normal serving. but it will be awhile . i only started back to eating nuts about 2 months ago. crushing pills shouldnt change anything except how fast it gets in the bloodstream but not the amount absorbed. call your pharmacist to be sure on that. quote=barelovers;775260]Hello everyone. Why is it that we are not supposed to have cheese and nuts. Is it due to the fat or calorie content or is there another reason? Also before the surgery I used to take Fish oil, coq10 and Gluchosime chondrotine. Is anyone currently taking these and if so how? Whole pill form, cut, crushed or liquid. By changing the form (cutting or crushing) should we take less because it is absorbed quicker into our bodies. If anyone has any info I sure we would all like to know. Thank you in advance for all your help -
my hairdresser just told me yesterday that he noticed that i had thinned a little but is now coming back. i noticed but it was not that bad thank goodness. ive been told it is a reaction to anethesia for a lot of people. just shoot for the 50-60 grams of protein as much as possible is what i do. i am down 42 lbs. so far. how is everyone doing on there weight loss and fills. i wouldloveto hear how everyone is doing please write. what kind of exercise routines are you following

i know exactly how you feel. i was banded july 16 and when i went in august i had lost 20 lbs. so he would not give me a fill. i go back this wednesday and he told me if i have lost 5-7 lbs. since last time, he would not give me a fill. i feel as though i might have lost that much. i dont really want to get a fill if i dont have to. why? because it can bring on side effects that i dont need to deal with like gas, vomiting, pain and an inability to eat anything but mushies or liquids. you are better off without it. even with just the band there is restriction. youre better off losing slowly, the slower the better, more likely to keep it off. that is how i am looking at it. dont let the band do the work for you. you cuold get a restriction and end up basically drinking protein shakes but htat is not good for youeither but it will make you drop weight. but, getting the band means following the dr.s directions and NOT using past weight loss experiences as a guide. this is a new way, and things are supposed to be different. keep in touch. i go to the dr. wednesday and will see what happens.

i have only been banded sinced july 16 and my surgeon told me if i am losing 5 lbs. a month he will not give me a fill. i have the smallest band and as long as i have restriction, why bother with a fill. i go to the dr. this coming wednesday and will see what i have lost since the last time i was there in august. it has been about 5 weeks and he said if i have lost 5-7 he will not give me a fill. he says it can cause more problems with vomiting and other things. i am going to try to continue without a fill. i am afraid of side effects of the fill and dont have time to feel lousy as I am a music teacher to 5th and 6th graders and cannot be grouchy!!

i have not had it checked since last week it was 110 over 68. it is always around that. i was thinking maybe low blood sugar or something but it seems to have gone away. maybe i wasnt eating enough veggies. thnks for the responses. another question - how often do you weigh yourself? i am 4 weeks out and have been weighed twice. i want to keep on it. i dont go back to the doctor until mid september and dont kno wi f i can wait that long.

thanks guys. i was thinking i should have a blood test though because i am anemic and it may be more severe now. i will go the doctor this week just to make sure.

What does restriction feel like??
jvalve replied to suzielondon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was just banded on the 16th . it osunds like you are eating too fast. even if it feels like it is slow do it slower. and smaller amounts at a time. whenever you feel weird at all, you are too fast or too much or both. dont do it. it will really hurt once it is solid food. be careful. that is how problems can start. -
i am beign banded july 16 by dr. Kacmarski good luck
