I have to do the protein shakes as well and I can't say that the gas pain has been so horrible that I have to take anything for it. I do get uncomfortable and sometimes feel like there is a bubble that just won't pop but as each day goes by, it seems to be getting easier.

    March Bandsters!

Judych, I started thinking about the lap band last summer and in August of 2011 I attended my first seminar. At that time my insurance coverage was "crappy" to say the least but in October they came around and decided that they would cover upto 85%. I set up an appt with the surgeon that had spoke at the Seminar (which I just loved) in October and the ball was set in motion. Her staff has been wonderful and helped me along the way. We set my surgery date on 01/27/2012 for March 6th and I got my approval from the insurance company on 2/24/2012. Talk about pins and needles. I was already a week into the liquid diet required by Dr Hawver and was scared the whole time that the insurance wouldn't approve and we would have to do an appeal but to my surprise it was approved the first go round. I am quite happy that I have had this done. I have 3 kids 20, 17 and 14 and a family hx of health problems that I do not want to inherit, so I knew I had to do something. I am glad that I joined this forum. thank you so much for all the encouragement. We will all need it to get through

    March Bandsters!

Two weeks prior to my surgery, I had to do a liquid diet. My surgeon said it was to help shrink the liver and it also helped prepare me for liquids after surgery, so it wasn't such a shock when I couldn't eat solids. Follow what your surgeon recommends as they are all different.

I don't know that there are really any good tips. This is something you just have to set your mind to and ignore all other foods. The first 3-4 days were pretty rough for me too, but I got through it and now it is like routine, even now after surgery. I can cook for my family and not really have any cravings. You can do this!!

I have had some of that. I was banded on 03/06. It is quite annoying and hurts like the dickens when it won't come up. Walking does seem to help relieve that

I occasionally have this but usually when I am up and have been on my feet being active for quite some time. I figure it is my body telling me it is time to rest. What I am finding weird is how I can feel the port move when I get up from a sitting position.

I also have problems with vomiting after anesthetics. My surgeon prescribed the patch to place behind my ear 24 hours prior to surgery and then prescribed a new nausea medication to take the day of surgery. I believe the medication was called Namend or Amend, can't remember but I had no problems with vomiting or nausea after surgery. I had an allergic reaction to morphine, hives all over and diffculty coming out of the anesthetic so my surgeon kep me over night for observation since I live an hour away from where I had surgery. I would talk with your surgeon about the medications mentioned.

You are going to do great. The first few days are rough especially if you have family that you have to cook for like I do. Stay strong it is worth it in the end.

That is how I have to drink my liquids too. 30cc every 30 min. I think that is why I am finding it hard to get my Protein requirements in. I haven't vomited and thank the lord for that.

Make sure you take your Multivitamin. I take a chewable multivitamin and Vitamin C pill along with my Iron pill. because I am anemic. Taking the multivitamin was a requirement from my surgeon

judych, you are going to do awesome. I am not sure how each physician makes their decision on what restrictions to put their patients on, it is quite interesting. I'm not sure when I will get my first fill, I really hope it is on my post op visit, but not sure

Mandagay for the most part I feel awesome, just the occasional gas pains that I can't get rid of. I am quite happy with the weight loss so far since surgery. 8lbs down. I think it is awesome I can put on my wedding ring and it not be a tight fit.

Prettyperl, I know this is tough, but we will get through this. I think the reason I am having such a hard time getting the Protein in is because I can only have 30 cc every 30 min. That is not alot of liquids in an hour. Otters38 I hope and pray that the gas only last a few more days. It is definately worse than the small amount of pain I have from the surgical incisions. How do you get the weight loss ticker added?

    March Bandsters!

I was banded on March 6th. The best decision that I have made. Like many of you, I too could lose but always put the weight back on plus some. I have lost 8 lbs post surgery. I am so excited. You ladies still waiting for surgery are going to do awesome!!!

I know what you mean. The gas at times has been horrible and causes my left shoulder to hurt. I have relieved it by walking and not drinking gassy liquids. I have not had to use the gas x as of yet and hopefully I won't have to. It takes me litterally all day get at least 52 grams of Protein down. I am to drink 30cc every 30 min. I am going to have to figure out another way to get the protein. It is hard for me to drink the whey Protein shakes slowly. How often are you drinking? And you aren't drinking through a straw? I'm not sure what else you could do with the exception of curling up into a ball which may help you relieve the gas.

    Wowzers!

I had the lap band on 03/06/2012 and so far it is the best thing ever. I have lost 8lbs since surgery and 14 before surgery. My surgeon has not done a fill yet, I believe she is going to do that on my pre op visit in two weeks. So excited about this new journey. I was just like you and morelgirl. I was not fond of the gastric sleeve or the bypass. I have Hypertension and enemia and did not want to replace those medications for other medications because of lack of nutritional absorption. The lap band was definately the best decision for me
  23. My surgeon's nurse gave me her cell number to all at any time but also in the post operative directions, they instructed me to call if I developed a fever. You should call.
