I just had surgery by Dr Kelly on 5/23. I did not travel alone but there were a few there while I was there that did travel alone. You will be well taken care of. I found that those that traveled alone got way more attention and got to spend a lot of extra time with Dr Kelly and his staff. You will actually be left alone very little. The hospital staff was great and will take good care of you while you are there. My best Advice is to have your surgery the same day that you arrive. Good luck!

I just had surgery 12 days ago with Dr Kelly and he and I had this conversation right before I went into surgery. He was very confident and matter fact with his reasoning for the size he uses. You will love Dr. Kelly.

I just paid $5500.00 with Dr. Kelly and had a fabulous experience. He fits not make you pay anything until the day of surgery. He has his own coordinator and does not use a broker. Very easy and flexible to schedule with and only does 3 surgeries a day.

If it makes you feel better, I was sleeved the same day and will"ditto" your feelings. Today just has not been a great day. Tomorrow is going to be better for both of us.

I would recommend checking out Dr Kelly also. He does not work with any of the coordinators, he has a man by the name of Omar that does his coordinating. He uses a hospital and hotel for the last two days. He only will do 3 surgeries a day so he does not herd people through. His cost is $5500.00, with no deposit but pay in full on arrival.
I am 7 days post op and I never had much pain at all, as you will see most of his other patients say the same thing.
To contact Omar go to www.wlsclinic.com or call him at (619) 395-5347. He will have Dr Kelly call you directly to talk to you.

Count me in. Today wt is 224 so I am aiming for onderland. I know that might seem a little aggressive but I am only 5 days out and can't start musshies until day 22. Already down 20 lbs from pre op and I have not started to exercise yet.

I just got back yesterday. I wore the hospital gowns in the hospital and the slippers only one time. The slippers were flimsy so I felt unstable when I was walking the hallways. I found with my flip flops I could go faster and further. There was another patient there that wore her own nightgown and slippers from day after post op. it is your personal preference. I started a blog and hope to have it updated by tonight. Take a look at sherlee140.blogspot.com. Sharon's blog helped me so much before going so I wanted to be able to help the next group going.

I chose Dr. Kelly also, I had surgery on Tuesday and leave TJ this morning. When I got here there was a girl that was leaving that had a revision and she looked amazing. Her revision was supposedly a tough one but she seemed to be at the same place as the rest of us 3 days out. I had no pain and very little nausea, I stopped taking the pain mess and anti nausea meds at day two. There were 5 of us done over the period of time that I was here and all have had the same experience.
I chose Dr Kelly bc I felt comfortable with all of the phone conversations we had prior, he has American credentials that my own physicians checked out, he does not work with the brokers, I did not have to send any money before hand. Those were my main reasons, everyone's is going to be different.
If you speak to Dr. Kelly remember that he does not work with brokers so if you are contacted besides anyone but Omar then you are not actually talking to Dr Kelly. The brokers are playing not so fair.

Hey Shirlee' date=' I noticed you are a Floridian, I am also, where are you from? Im from Miami.[/quote']I leave Sunday at noon so we will be passing at the airport. I am from Fort Myers, across the state from you. Things went perfect so try and relax and enjoy the ride. Good luck, let me know how you make out.

Hey Shirlee' date=' I pray all went well for you today with surgery, I would really like to know how did it go, Im getting ready for mine on the 28th, Im getting really nervous, maybe you can ease my nerves.Thanks.[/quote']
Everything went well. My biggest issue thus far has been sinus pressure. Very little gas and pain. I stopped taking the ant nausea and pain meds yesterday bc they were setting me back. Going stir crazy now. Waiting for Dr Kelly to come do discharge papers then going for the leak test about noon. The staff at the hospital are all very sweet. There is a language barrier with some but we have managed. A smile is a universal language and it puts both you and the nurses at ease. The one thing that was a life saver for me that I have not seen anyone else post was a cool washcloth over my face. Some if the medicines were making me have hot flashes. You will do great!

Bring a camera if you don't have one on your phone bc you will do a quick tour of San Diego. Sit back and take it in but don't get nervous about your surroundings coming into the hospital. Once you get here you will be at ease. Everyone here works to make you comfortable and relaxed. You will get a sleeping pill for the night before sx. They have the best green tea with honey that I was drinking pre op.

SharonI have 4 days until I leave for my surgery with Dr. Kelly. Any last minute advice. Getting pretty nervous as it gets closer.
If you are bringing anyone with you, have them bring Snacks and their own drinks. The restaurant in the hospital is healthy food and not that it is bad but just very different if that is not what you are used to eating. Really nowhere for your guest to get drinks or Snacks.< /p>
Make sure you have something to do bc I got here at about 3 yesterday and my sx is not until 1 so a lot of just sitting around. They do have TV that has a few English speaking stations. Other than that not much more that has already been covered. We stopped at Wal Mart on our way in yesterday bc Cecy needed to get a few things so if needed anything that you didn't want to travel with I sure she would stop.
I will update if I come across anything else.

I am here getting surgery today with Dr Kelly. So far everything had gone just fine. I have my mom with me but there is another girl by herself and she had Omar, Dr Kelly and Cecy all in and out of her room just visiting all day yesterday. Got my IV about 30 mins ago and the nurse spoke English and got it first try. Dr. Kelly had a meeting last night with a marketing company and they came into my room for quiet a while discussing how it is currently hard to find him and what kind of things to do to make it better. He is a man of integrity and totally puts you at ease. I have to admit it was a little concerning crossing the border and checking into the hospital right up to when Dr Kelly came into the room. The hospital is very simple and a lot less intimidating than US hospitals.
Sharon, your name came up a lot yesterday. Omar said he has never seen anyone have such an easy time as you.
I head to sx in a couple hours and will let you know how it goes.

I leave tomorrow for Mexico in the morning also. Who is doing your surgery? I am with Dr. Kelly. Good luck! We will be just fine.

Hi Sherlee' date=' are you ready? It won't be long now! Hope to see you soon.[/quote']I am eerily calm and ready to go. I have to keep busy tomorrow and then out early Tuesday morning. How are you holding up? My name is Sherry, look for me in the hallways and we can support each other?

My surgery is the 23rd. I wish we had the same time. I have not talked to anyone for my date yet.
-
Ok, Reese and Crystal what have you been eating? I panicked today because I had been doing Protein Shakes and throwing fresh fruit in them with skim milk and now I am not sure that is allowed. My hubby made me homemade chicken broth for dinner that I am going to eat and I ate yogurt and creamy Tomato Soup for lunch but I just hope that I interpreted the pre op directions correctly. I need a piece of mind because I really want my liver in good condition for surgery. I still have 8 days to get it right.

Hi everyone. Here I sit at the beautiful lucerna hotel in Tijuana mexico!
I cannot say enough good things about Dr Kelly, his wife Cecy & Omar.
Cecy picked me up from Sand Diego airport in a WLSC (weight loss surgery center) van, easy to get across the border. But first she took me on a little tour of downtown San Diego! Stopped to take my photo a couple of times which was nice. Beautiful area.
Then across the border & stopped to get bloodwork & urine sample (so don't pee at the airport!). Easy to do. Then off to Oasis Hospital where I met Dr Kelly & Omar. Both speak fluent & very good English!
Process went very quickly. Got undressed & into a gown, took x-rays of chest area, then off to surgery! One minute I was laying on the table, next minute I was waking up in my room! Woke up with abolutely NO PAIN! I had no gas pain from the moment I woke up & still don't! Just some mild nausea.
Dr Kelly said the surgery took 41 minutes & why he tries to do it quickly is so you have less gas. Well it definitely showed!
The next couple of days consisted of me sleeping off & on, getting vital stats done & having my IV bag changed. I think I had 6 lots of Water they put into me altogether.
Today they changed my incisions dressings, took IV out of me & off we went to do the swallow test. Everyone said it tastes horrible, so was prepared for that. It wasn't bad at all. You also drink it in one lot, not sips. So you hardly taste it.
Swallow test went great too!
Now Omar, cecy & Dr Kelly all dropped me off at the Lucerna hotel & I have an amazing view of the pool, really pretty.
Oh & they gave me a bag that says "I left my stomach in Tijuana, MX" filled with drinks & teas for me. They also gave me 3 types of medication. One for pain, one antibiotic & one for my stomach.
Now I am relaxing until they pick me up later & we all go for broth. Can't wait!
So doing amazing. Really recommend Dr Kelly & if you have any questions just ask!
Ok, you sealed the deal for me. I am ready to go, but still have to wait one more week. I will be with my mom and we will be there over a Saturday so hopefully we will get to go out with Dr. Kelly as well. Please tell them all that I cannot wait to meet them. Best of luck on your trip home.

Thanks DDFinn' date=' congrats on the weight loss! I'm hoping mine comes off quickly too <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.sam74, I see you're from NC too! Maybe we will run into each other between the hospital and the Lucerna. Good luck!
sherlee, I hope so. Yep, I started it last Tuesday. I am staying hungry all the time but I've lost 7 lbs. V-8 juice is my new BFF this week and I made a puree (gerber stage 1 consistency) that was pretty dang good- dice 1 sm vidalia onion, stir in hot pan to get sweatin', add 2 chopped squash, black pepper, Water, & a little Swanson chicken broth packet. Cook til tender and puree the heck out of it-enough for 2-3 meals. What have you tried out so far?[/quote']
How is the pre op going? Any new recipes? A smoothie King Just opened up down the street do I have been doing a gladiator drink everyday for lunch which is 45 g Protein and 2g carb. I just got my necktie sample yesterday so I will start to try them. I have been taking it one meal at a time, can't think about dinner or how much longer when it if only Breakfast. The time is getting close very fast.

I'm the 24th with Dr. Kelly as well. My wife and I are arriving the morning of the 23rd from Texas.I am sure we will be passing in the hallways. Be sure to say Hi!

I am so glad that I am not the only one having these thoughts. I leave for Mexico a wee from Tuesday. I literally will only allow myself think in about 30 min increments or I start to panic. We all know that this is the right thing and we have to believe we will be totally fine.

Make sure that you stop and walk a lot to prevent any blood clots. I don't know if it is true or not but I remember when my mother in law had her hip replacement that they told her to write the ABC's with her foot in the air as often as she could remember to prevent blood clots along with her compression stockings. Good luck, I am right behind you sx on the 23rd and i have a 9 hour fight back from Mexico.

I fly in on the 22nd , surgery on the 23rd and back out on the 27th. Hopefully we will all see each other. Did you start your pre op diet yet?

I hit there about 1 and did not have my surgery until the next day at 3. Too much sitting around. A couple of the the other people that were there the next day got in about 1 quickly prepped for sx and by 4 were in surgery. Dr. Kelly does not typically start his sx until the afternoon bc of the schedules of some of the docs that do sx with him.
