Day 7 Post Op Questions
kbliss78 replied to sarah612's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sarah - I have not had my surgery yet (in three weeks). However, my Dr office gave me a book and also told me about the time right after surgery. They said best case, they hope people would have little or no appetite for the first 3 - 4 weeks. Then to remember that feeling b/c it is the "green zone" for later. If what they told me is true, I would expect your hunger to return in a week ro two gradually. Then you can aim for that never hungry feeling again with fills. It sounds like you may be the lucky ones that dont have to suffer in "banster hell". However, again, I have not had my proceedure yet. I have only read a book and had discussions with my Dr office about this. -

Awesome! I am the same date, 5-8! I got to bump it up from 5-22! We will have the same start to our journey!
-
Awesome! I start my pre-opt diet on your surgery date! Then I have my surgery on 5/8! We will be very close to each other for this expirence!

I have no idea what you might feel like since i havent had surgery yet but I asked my Dr about sit ups and workouts. He said I could do absolutely anything after 4 weeks b/c everything is healed at that piont. However, I am sure if you asked 100 Drs you would get 100 different answers.

I dealt with insurance changes several times (same company continued to change insurance over years) and different requirements from each on and off for 6 years. I finally made the choice that I would self pay. it was a huge releif for me mentally. If I were you, I would take teh job opertunity that you are interested in. Things may even be better for your process at the new place. Insurance is a horrible thing to deal with.

My surgeon doesnt even do the shake diet, it is phase one of adkins. So I imagine that even though you cheated, you ate protien and no carbs. I dont think you would have done damage or jeapordize your surgery. Do you best and forget the rest

A New Food Experience After A Fill
kbliss78 replied to Cynsayshun's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have also heard/read that many people cannot do Breakfast at all after a certain piont. It may not be the bread or eggs and simply that you are now moving towards being tight in the morning. My surgery advocate told me he hasnt eaten breakfast in 3 years. If he is hungry he does a shake, then he loses throughout the day and eats a normal lunch or dinner. Just thought I would share. Way to go losing 1.5 pounds a week. That is great progress! -
Awesome! I am excited for you and I hope your recovery continues to go well.

My Conflicted Thoughts, Anyone Else Feel/think This Way?
kbliss78 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello peeps.... I had my first appiontment in January and scheduled surgery for May 22, 2012. This long of a weight has played many tricks in my head. I am completely conflicted with my thoughts. One part of me is so ready for this change in my life and ready for success that I want to start a strick diet now to get a head start. The other part of me continues to say "you wont be able to eat these things later, might as well have what I want now as a fairwell". However, I DO NOT want to gain weight before surgury. I did horrible yesturday for Easter. Then I felt really guilty and began to doubt that I have the mental strength for this proceedure. However, I cannot continue my life as it is. Did any of you suffer from this confliction when you were waiting for surgury. Anyone that has had surgery and been successful - did your thoughts and feelings about food change (did it get easier?). Most of my thoughts are either thinking about what I want to eat (good or bad), feeling guilty when I do eat bad, or thinking about life after the band. I would like to think that a life without this much conflict might be ahead of me. Please comment..... -
I feel the same way! I told my husband I am taking all of the chocolate that my kids got and it is going to work. They got more candy then they do at halloween! Crazy! I will be starting pre-opt diet soon and it has got to go so I am not tempted to cheat.

I just found out I may be able to move my surgery date up a few weeks which would start my pre-opt diet in one week! I cannot wait to hear, it all depends on my boss. He will let me know at the end of the day. It sure will be a long day! I look everyone's good luck vibes! It would be so nice to know the wait is going to be much shorter! Crossed fingers, prayers, wishing for good karma!

Natbug2011 - Congrats. There are some great utube videos of the proceedure available to watch if you are asking what goes on during the process. I also googled "utube lap band success" and there are hundreds of people that post video blogs of their weekly progress. I learned a ton by those videos. Otherwise, there are great things to read on this site. I saw your next post that said "NOT*". So if you ddid not want advise, sorry for responding. Best wishes in your journey.

5 1/2 Years Post-Op: Hole In Lapband Tubing
kbliss78 replied to adiye's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so sorry that the band malfunctioned. As well as I am sorry that you suffered MDD. At least you can get it corrected and you are not back at starting weight. I beleive life is a journey and there is never really a "goal" but just the trip we must take. I hope your new proceedure goes well and you find yourself where you want to be. You definately didnt fail, the band did and you have still done very well! Best wishes! -
I am excited for you. Making the decision is a great feeling. Best of luck, I have meet alot of nice people on this site. There is some negative stuff posted but I find more positive than negative. I am going to have the proceedure within a month. Best wishes.

I think you can do a re-do. Do a "pouch test" or a 2 week pre-opt diet to skrink your stomack. Get a fill and start back on track with it. Your dr doesnt want you to be a failure either (it screws up their statistics) so they would rather see you and help you get back on track. Having a baby and the hormone swings change everything. You shouldnt be ashamed, you should feel proud that you are not giving up and you plan to get back on track to take care of yourself. Consider it a bump in your journey, not the end. Best wishes!

Question For Those That Have Reached Goal Weight Or Close To It.
kbliss78 replied to Toddy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have not even had the surgery yet, but they told me after 18 months it would be 6 months to a year inbetween visits depending on maintenance. They told me the band loses some fluid over time and they need to adjust but it is usually once a year. I know you asked for people that had been at goal...sorry to bud in You have done so awesome. It is nice to see success in others! -
Preop Diet. No Weight Loss.
kbliss78 replied to Boniluuu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Beans are also considered simialar to a charbohydrate. They have protient but also carbs. As long as your liver has decreased in size, that is all they needed. Every Dr does a different pre-opt diet. It is mainly to reduce the liver so it is not in the way for surgery. Weight loss is a benifit..... Best wishes for you for surgery! -
almost 10K with all pre-opt testing and post-opt appointments and fills covered for first year. I went with True Results in Austin. I am scheduled 5/22. They had two payment options, 1) apply for carecredit and pay $260 a month for 5 years, or 2) pay $4000 down and $280 a month for 2 years if you do not qualify for carecredit. I went with the second option. I have heard people that did the surgery for much less but the post opt appts and fills were not covered. They cost about $120 per session. Also, anyone that does it in Mexico cannot find any Drs to do the fill even if they pay.....just FYI. Hope that helps......

I was in shape until I graduated HS. I ran almost daily and lifted weights. I was a size six. I felt great. Then I went through a very difficult 7 years with my family. It completely fell apart. My dad left my mom, she tried to commit suicide, my dad went to treatment for alcoholism 3 x and some other ugly stuff. It was right at the same time that I began to live on my own and in college. I ate too much, ate out too often, used food and alcohol to cope with the stress of my family. I did not even notice how fast it was coming on. I recall buying bigger stuff but not really knowing how big I was. I was in denial. I quickly gained 100 lbs. I have then hovered at the same weight (give or take 20) for 7 years. However, I cannot make the needed changes long enough to have successful weight loss. So I guess I am fat because I turned food into a coping mechanism many years ago. I hope to change that on 5/22/12......

I love this post. IT is a great way of looking at the band. I also began to think of the "rules" of the lapband like the vows I said when I got married. I took those vows serious....for better and worse, in sickness and health, for good times and bad and so on. I have had to remind myself sometimes of those vows (for example, my husband is horrible with money, it has put us in some bad places, but I made a vow. The lap band has rules to follow to.....eat slowly, protien first, chew then wait, stop when you are satisfied/not full, dont drink with your meal, and sacrifices as well.....you may have to say goodbye to some foods, Breakfast may not be a meal you can have, eating out has to have consideration, you can no longer choose to pig out..... Because of your post, I can look at those rules the same way I did my marriage. I did not know what marriage was going to be like when I walked down the isle much like I do not know what my life will be like after my surgery. HOwever, if I remind myself of my vows even when things are hard and keep my promises as I have done in my marriage, then success will happen. THanks for helping me look at this in a entirely different light. It is a great way for me to view the band. A true "ah- ha" moment.

I am glad to read all of you posting that you need 75 grams of protien. My True Results consultant told me 40 grams. I now plan to ask at my next appiontment! I have learned so much from this site

My Conflicted Thoughts, Anyone Else Feel/think This Way?
kbliss78 replied to kbliss78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is awesome. Great weightloss so far. I am a very strong person and I am successful at everything else I do in my life except weightloss. I plan to turn that around too. I want to have the same mindset as you do. I believe I can, but the part of me that has failed at this so many times in my life continues to come into my thoughts. Thanks for sharing with me! -
Great job at 12 days! You were very stong to make such yummy food and not eat it. It is amazing that you have lost more than a pound a day. Great work. I hope I can post something like that when I am 12 days out. Do you clothes already feel better? It is so great that others are even noticing already. Thanks for posting
